If that were necessarily true then Marvel would never have taken off. Before 2008 Iron Man was about as well known among the general, non-comic reading public as He-Man is. But the movie was good and well marketed so it succeeded. This one wasn't, so it didn't. Simple as.

And that's a natural thing. Undead IPs are a modern forced thing. In case of he-man they tried every decade to make half assed attempt to revive it and it never worked. And to be fair, with the exception of the 2002 reboot, all those attempts either tried to reinvent the wheel or were made with malice (like Shit-Ra or Kevin Smiths crap). It is what it it. I personally think that the concept is great, the main characters are great and loved the look and tone of the filmation cartoon. I have no problem at all with all these IPs being left in the past, what pains me is them being dragged out from their grave, raped, mogged and worn like skinsuits.
