What's the point of this thread, OP?
>>
Why did he send a video to that bitch at the end? After she roofied him and put him on a suicide mission, the last thing I’d want her to know is I met a chill rock buddy in space. Lord knows they’d probably try and rape the rocks resources or something retarded next.
>>
>>222864719
the whole time when they had the nigger security agent drug him and put him on a one way trip to space I was thinking to myself imagine if the genders were reversed or, god forbid, the races were reversed
>>

>she roofied him and put him on a suicide mission
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. She should have left mankind be destroyed because Grace isn't man enough to do his duty?
>>
>>222864767
If genders/races were reversed, retards would complain, yes. And they would be wrong.
>>
>>222864788
mankind deserves to be destroyed because majority are nonwhites

Theres a certain ratio where its not even debatable. 1 life for 7 billion plus the continuation of the human race isnt even close to a moral dilemma

its not the best movie ever, it definitely is reddit no question about that, but its nice, positive movie. It's better than Martian. It's bit better in the cinema where I watched it, there's one particular scene that, with the soundtrack, was pretty nice and inspirational to watch ABORT ABORT ABORT GRACE WILL DIE NO NO NO NO NO
>>
If Grace went back to earth he'd probably get court martialed by like half the world's governments for just giving an entire alien race all of humanity's scientific knowledge on a laptop. They don't know what the hell a bunch of aliens are gonna do after being uplifted by humanity and they clearly have the resources and lifespans to think nothing of just coming to earth in the future to do what they want.
>>
>>222866834
It is debatable and it is close. How come survival of your precious human race is the virtue of the highest order? Who and how concluded that those 7 billion lives take priority over this particular life exactly?

>b-b-but the evolution
We have been relying on its retarded logic for thousands of years. How is that working out for us? Are you happy with the world we live in?

it's reddit, basically if you took the capeshit approach to sci-fi.
There are hundreds of good movies available to watch right now, anyone forgoing those to watch this trash deserves contempt.
>>
>>222867031
It's a movie about a human scientist meeting an alien scientist and they solve a problem together. If that premise sounds interesting to you then it's a good movie.

>they’d probably try and rape the rocks resources or something retarded next
They can't do that very easily, as 40 Eridani is 16.3 light years away. So minimum ~33 years until you get a return on investment from attempting that. And while your invaders are on their way to Erid, their technology stays the same while the Eridians keep advancing and spreading and becoming stronger thanks to the astrophage discovery. Not a great idea.

Though some kind of increased interaction between Earth and Erid could be part of the sequel, if Weir ends up writing one

>>222867842
>it's a show about a slightly crazy scientist and his grandson and how they go on interdimensional adventures
>If that premise sounds interesting to you, then it's a good show
>>
>>222867927
Sounds cool what's it called
>>
>>222867898
neither the book nor the movie need a sequel, its a complete story that has nowhere to go.

the worldbuilding turned to shit anyways with the astrophage lightspeed magic tech and earth has an alien neighbor pretty much next door that isnt even carbon based, which means the galaxy probably has millions of civilizations, which is a retarded horseshit setting because they wouldnt all acquire space technology at the same time so some of them just sat there for millions of years doing literally nothing.

its not worth it to open that can of worms story wise, the story is concluded and did exactly what it was supposed to do, a story about trust and friendship between strangers with a common goal, nothing more, nothing less.
>>
Andy Weir is truly reddit.
Like, Dan Brown was already extremely reddit, but Andy Weir takes that to the next reddit level.
And it's all shit, of course, but that goes without saying.
>>
>>222864788

There's no inherent reason an intelligent species would become a space-faring one. Think about how much time humans spent just chucking spears and raping each other. It's entirely feasible that there would be millions of intelligent species that just spend all their time focused on killing and eating each other for their blood gods until environmental conditions wipe them out.
>>
>>222868074
You don't have to watch it, but there are still some pretty big unanswered questions which a sequel could explore.
Like even though Earth and Erid are now able to save their stars, is the rest of the galaxy basically still doomed, with astrophage spreading outward faster than anyone can counter it?
And why did this happen with such convenient timing, when humans and Eridians were both at the right stage of tech progress to be able to do anything about it?
There could be a twist where it turns out astrophage is part of some grand plan and is not naturally occurring, or it's a cycle the galaxy goes through and has happened before and it was somehow a mistake to intervene as they did
>>
>>222867589
>There are hundreds of good movies
Not recent ones. Name ten.
All capeshit sucks but this doesn't.
>>
>>222868375
Feel free to write your own fanfiction set in this universe.
>>
>>222868469
>not recent ones
I didn't say there were hundreds of recent good movies, I said there were hundreds of good movies.

Here are ten good movies, some new, some old:
The House that Jack Built
Ghost Elephants
The Northman
The Lighthouse
Barry Lyndon
Apocalypse Now redux
Cobra Verde
28 years later: the bone temple
Gettysburg
Drive
>>
>>222868532
Weir says he might write a sequel and is still working on ideas for it. Are you gonna go and murder him, to stop a sequel from being made?
>>
>>222868375
>And why did this happen with such convenient timing, when humans and Eridians were both at the right stage of tech progress to be able to do anything about it?

Well obviously the worlds that werent technologically advanced enough to do anything about it, didnt do anything about it. Obviously the only species that will be there in space trying to save themselves are the ones who are able to travel in space to save themselves
>>
>>222868570
I saw those, the rock monster movie is better than Drive.
>>
>>222864534
>>222867031

I really wanted to like this movie. Everyone was praising it, I loved the book and yet when I finally got round to watching it last week, I was kind of underwhelmed. The script wasn't as good as the book, the plot rushes some things and drags out on others. The woman boss (Strauss, Stratt, whatever) was too "soft" in the movie compared to the colder, all business world saviour of the book. Rocky was fun, but he was too goofy that his heroic genius didn't shine though as much as it did in the book. Gosling was just okay. Visuals are great.

I think this is just overpraised because other Hollywood movies are so abysmally bad that this just seems great in comparison. I would give it 7/10 by itself while the book is 9/10.

>>222868638

I wish the movie had more buddy scenes between Grace and Rocky, their relationship is easily the best part of the story in either version and the movie cuts out too much of it.

How is Reddit bad?
>>
>>222870654
Vapid empty signalling over sincere thought. This site like the rest of the world becomes more reddit everyday and the faggots calling everything reddit are extremely reddit.
>>
>>222870654
Each subreddit tends to be overly insular with its own mods enforcing dumb or arbitrary rules about what can or can't be discussed. That's a big part of what makes it bad.
That and the type of statements and discussion which are incentivized by the karma and upvote/downvote systems. 4chan has *some* of that where anons bait for Yous, but on reddit it's a persistent thing and a million times worse

He would have done that, without the explosion which led to him being forced onto the ship. When suddenly faced with having most of the rest of your life taken away, you're not gonna be thinking about "Ok maybe I'll do it in exchange for having sex with you." That's what The Martian was. PHM manages to be a lot better by dialing way back all the self-congratulatory science explainers. It instead gives it more depth and makes it more rewatchable, where you figure out internal logic stuff which the movie didn't spell out directly
