>>
To anyone who doesn't like Hereditary and Midsommar, I don't even know what to say. They're good horror movies, it isn't simply le elevated horror, they are unsettling and feature well executed body horror, gore, and uncanny moments. I have been watching horror movies for 100 years so I ought to know. Ok, you got me... It's more like 30 years, heh. Just pulled a fast one on you there. this movie started so good.
>no gay character exposition or plot windup
>immediately given creepy delivery task through snowy mountains
exquisite pacing
>first interaction with infected happens
>no jump scare just unsettling interaction
looking good. even down with the quippy humor for now as the horror ramps up. but then
>dog breaks through fence 999 decibels
>attacked by guy in house 999 decibels
>reddit quips won't stop
and why wasnt there more zombie kills? there was literally 1 satisfying one with the shotgun in the house. there was quite a bit wrong with the movie imo
>>

Half winging it. I'm gonna watch all the original Scooby Do series so that'll pad it out. I've got maybe 15 films, and the rest will be whatever new releases there are or some classics.
Some random ones (I've never seen these)
>Dark Night of the Scarecrow
>Lemora
>Flesheater
>RL Stine Pumpkinhead
>The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
>>
The prequel definitely washed the bad taste of the god-fucking awful first movie out. Pretty solid overall, I thought the movie was real cute for the first half hour and thought the quality was going to be mainly family drama and themes and such, before it turned into Evil Dead-lite.
Also, I disagree with what one anon told me, to just treat this as a one-off, as I really appreciated the fact this movie tried to recontextualize all the stupid shit from the original.

Yeah, I'll fucking watch Polaroid next for my modern horror schlock kick.

If art is subjective then that means what is art is only a view that exists inside a person's mind and cannot be proven true or false for everyone.

This means you can lie about something being art and we all have to believe you. This means you can piss on the ground and call it art and we have to believe you. This means nothing and everything is art.

This means you can be a mental retard with bad taste who thinks sonichu is good art and we cannot tell you you are wrong. You are right. It is amazing art because art is subjective and you think sonichu is amazing. Art is objective.

Just finished. Year 2022, some spaceship is orbiting the moon, and bumps into an abandoned space shuttle from the 90s. Turns out last place anyone ever saw it was the Bermuda Triangle. Bare bones and mostly bloodless Alien/The Thing knock-off with a religious horror angle. The bartender from The Shining is in the Ian Holm role and is the only element here that feels like it's from a real movie.

I'll probably be watching Suspiria that night since the 3rd is picrel's bday and I'm still not sure if it's playing anywhere local next month, which is a huge bummer… Videodrome is an excellent film to kick the month off with and if I had to pair it with something from your list, I'd go with Altered States. So what did you think of Resident Evil?
I'm kinda mixed. I had fun and overall liked it, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like it was a wasted opportunity.

pros
>Up until it gets rescued by the policewoman it's kino, great balance of horror and comedy
>Nice monster designs
>The lead is quite good
>second half not nearly as good, but still enjoyable

cons
>Might have been called "spooky city adventures" and nothing would change in relation to what it's supposedly adapting
>Not one single fucking iconic monster from 30 years of games unless you want to count not-birkin at the end
>and what was that final scene jesus fuck, really?
>"yeah videogames!" fucking really?!

I read that the original cut had even more comedy into it, I can only imagine how it was.

cons

>anti climactic ending
idk hard to pin down. I haven't played the games so I guess I wasn't too worried about that, but I thought it was a miss not to have a giant gator in the sewer.

as I said, for me the weirdest choice was not having one single monster from the games - the dog is debatable. at some point I though we were going to see at least lickers but nothing. I can't believe that at no point point no one pointed that out.

>>223259038
I am not gonna read that, but I suppose this movie is just using the name of the game to get audience... I will see it once it comes out as a magnet, but I am thinking it is just a zombie movie with recognizable names attached to it.

that's basically what it is. I'll say it's overall solid enough to warrant a watch, if you liked his previous movies then you would enjoy this one too, probably. but be aware that it barely has anything to do with the setting

I don't get why it had to be set in Raccoon City during the outbreak (in the wrong time with the virus acting completely wrong).
It could have been set in Possumville with the secret R-Virus made by the secret ex-Umbrella branch Parasol and that would be perfectly fine for a Resident Evil movie that could slot into the game canon. Throw a BSAA cameo in the ending and you're golden.
>>
>>223259146
That's exactly it. People will point out "oh but there's a typewriter in one scene and first aid sprays-" or other such namedrops like the scientists allegedly working for Umbrella (while acting nothing like Umbrella scientists) but nothing happens with any of it and it's all just in the background as set dressing.

Brand recognition. Studios figure slapping a popular IP on a movie will get more people to see it as opposed to "Spooky City Runner" or whatever the fuck they'd call it otherwise.
I did see someone mention that the studio needed to release an RE movie this year in order to keep the rights to it so that's also a possibility that they just grabbed the closest horror script they had and went "fuck it".

Just finished. Yeesh that was terrible. The leprechaun is actually the good guy and the villain is the black woman, who's an Oprah type holding a reality show for lingerie models so she can steal their souls to keep herself young. No blood, two brief titty scenes including Masuimi's, feels like most of the movie is the models bickering with each other.

Well Baron Blood was another Bava film full of beautiful shots and a snooze of a script. I think the whole thing could have been turned around if Vincent Price had starred in it, it's so ridiculous that he starred in multiple Dr. Goldfoot movies and none of his giallos.
>The Well to Hell hoax is an urban legend that circulated on the internet and in American tabloids in the late 1990s. The hoax was that a borehole in Russia was purportedly drilled so deep that it broke through into Hell, and that seismologists in Siberia recorded sounds in the nine-mile deep pit that included yells and haunting screams for help from sinners supposedly sent to Hell. The recording, however, was later revealed to have been a cleverly remixed portion of the soundtrack of Baron Blood, with various effects added

My theater didn't give a fuck and showed resident evil a day early
Final review 8/10
Its good, tense, has some unique set pieces that utilizes the resident evil concept of bio weapons other then that has nothing to do with resident evil which shouldn't surprise anyone.
5 min car exposition dump which makes no sense essentially umbrella just tells a rando everything with zero resitiance probably for the people who never played resident evil and badass black action girl is cringe.
Unique ending even if it was leaked.
Good ost.
A little too many jokes ans the protag js le wacky millennial but some were funny. Like I heard actually a couple of loud chuckles
Weapons > resident evil > barbarian
