I really love this show. Most of the complaints I've read on /tv/ are beyond retarded and are easily debunked if you actually use your brain and listen to the dialogue. This was probably my favorite episode apart from the pilot. Lanterns is weirdly at its best during these smaller-scale episodes where you don't get a ton of ring shenanigans. Hal Jordan's eulogy is probably my favorite scene in the DCU so far.

But from the town's perspective, the Manhunter was a benevolent alien who cured the sick and made problems go away for the simple cost of protection. Why wouldn't they be angry at Hal? The show is telling you to not like or trust Hal, but it’s really really hard especially when Kyle is acting circles around everyone else. Also the crux of that charade, episode 5, completely fails because half the viewers had no idea what John was talking about when he says Hal betrayed everything and what not. Just plain bad writing for what the writers are trying to accomplish.
