On the contrary, it's actually very critical of the shortsightedness with which left leaning people who identify themselves as gay/trans allies "re-evaluate" classics as being problematic. It portrays the supposed transphobia in the Camp Miasma films (which are a stand in for the Friday the 13th series and Sleepaway Camp) as being at absolute worst naive and clearly not coming from a remotely hateful place. It even suggests that said naivety is connected a sort of innocence that directly correlates to the nostalgia that films like Sleepaway Camp have for people who grew up with them. And the movie is pretty unambiguously a celebration of the connection people have to that media.

Like honestly, the Gillian Anderson character tells the main character to shut the fuck up every time she tries to complain about transphobia and there's even repeated pot shots taken at the idiocy of legacy remakes that ignore what people loved about the original in favor of forced PC nonsense. If you watched the whole movie and somehow missed all that because you were too triggered by the fact that it was written/directed by a tranny, you have mashed potatoes for brains.

I watched it last night and hated it, Schoenbrun's flicks have gotten progressively worse. World's Fair is pretty good (and I'll continue reminding people Schoenbrun shilled it here and was a regular /tv/ poster), TV Glow was decent and this one is straight up garbage. I am not a chud, not really a turbo sjw either, I dont give a fuck about culture war stuff so I dont mind seeing flicks made by trans directors, but the ones Ive seen (TV Glow, Miasma, Castration Movie and People's Joker) are all onanistic and self referential but Schoenbrun's are by far the worst of the bunch because they unironically seem like they were done by chuds with the kind of message they have. Miasma only has one character, Einbinder, a clear self insert (lol) and the lesson she learns is "nothing matters, nothing is real, the way to happiness is junk food, campy slashers and dissociation during sex where you partake in the sexual abuse fantasies where you're raped by a man despite being a lesbian". I found it so offensive honestly, because even Anderson's character is one dimensional, an unrealistic fantasy. It's the most male gazey thing in the film, more than Einbinder running in slomo with her tits flopping. Every other character is clearly someone that Schoenbrun hates irl, from the resentment towards the partner in the polycule who bangs some guy, to that dumb and silly guy, to the Hollywood execs who are oh so fake and dumb. To make it even more offensive, whenever we see the slasher movie Miasma, it looks absolutely nothing like the slashers of the time, I dont doubt Schoenbrun has watched a lot of them and the promo materials we see at the beginning are somewhat realistic, but the movie itself and the dialogue is so fake, it's like when a movie has a fake videogame that looks like they were made by someone who has never played a game before.
