Ive been seeing Harry Potter shilled here, should I finally watch it? Or has it aged like old milk
Read the books they’re better
The first two movies are simple yet charming children's movies with nice music and great production value outside of some poorly aged CGI. The third movie adds some darkness and intrigue without sacrificing too much of the humor and charm of the series, it seems like the series will only get better from here. The fourth film is mostly retarded garbage that bounces wildly in tone from overwrought humor to heavy-handed melodrama. The rest of them are an indiscernable gruel of angst and soot that blend in with one another aside from a good villain in the fifth one.
>>223532936The first few still feel like timeless classics, but the later ones kinda fell victim to the "early 2010's teenage angst" trend
>>223533067Its funny how true this is, I saw 5 6 7 part 1 and 2 in theaters yet i couldnt really tell you anything about them at all
>>223533067Yeah, I can only stand rewatching 1-3. Goblet of Fire is still fun in some ways but the tone makes a dramatic shift and from there on out it becomes just another YA snoozefest.
>>223533144>Goblet of FireWatching the broom closet scene with Rita as a teenager made me feel funny

For the anons who asked last thread , this is the rough draft of a scene in Summer Y4 in my FemDracoxOC fic:Luke shifted his book against his knees. Aurelia sat beside him beneath her bedroom window, her shoulder against his. Her unopened magazine provided some credibility to their claim of reading together. She turned his hand over.“I need that.” he said“For?”“Reading.”Luke glanced down at her bowed head and watched the wave of pale blonde hair slip over her shoulder. She caught him looking.“What?” she said with a grin.“Nothing.”He returned to the page, and her thumb moved across the knuckles of his captured hand.Half a sentence later, she did it again.“Enjoying it?” she asked.“Very informative.”“What have you learnt?”His eyes flicked down. She laughed.“Cheater"He turned and kissed her cheek. Her fingers tightened around his as she looked up at him and her eyelids lowered, “You really think that’ll do?”He put the book aside with a sigh. She watched with intolerable smugness, knowing she had won.“Your carefully planned summer studies.” she said“You almost sound concerned.”Luke kissed her and she met him halfway, then settled onto his lap, her arms around his shoulders.“You’ve abandoned your education,” she said breathlessly, “Granger will be so disappointed.”“She’ll understand.”“No, she won’t.”“No. Probably not.” As he drew her closer and kissed her again.Shortly afterwards, her bedroom door opened.Cassia stood frozen in the doorway and just stared at her sister on Luke’s lap, his arms around her waist. Her nose wrinkled with disgust.“No.”Aurelia leaned back but remained where she was.“Do you not know how to knock?”“Mother’s looking for you.”“What does she want?”Cassia looked at Luke again. He smiled back at her.“Mother!”“Cassia.” Aurelia snapped. That settled it.“MOTHER!”
>>223532936I've never read the books, and watched the movies for the first time during covid when I was already 30. The first 2 movie are fantastic even as an adult, so I understand why kids loved it. The 3rd movie is decent, but the rest are utter dogshit.

The books (and by extension films) were a victim of their own popularity. In the first two novels you can see that this world wasn't supposed to be taken seriously. It was something in the same vein as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Matilda. And the first three books kind of reflect that in their tone and how neatly things are wrapped up at the end of each book. But as soon as Rowling realized how popular she was with adults, she began writing the material darker and darker until eventually you start asking questions like damn, why does this ginger retard need money when he literally has magic? Or why do the Death Eaters respect or fear Voldemort when literally killing someone is a matter of pointing a stick at them and saying two words? For this reason, the best of the books and films is found in the first three entries, and everything after that basically goes downhill.

No the movies are pretty shit. If you watch the behind the scenes material you'll see that Rowling wasn't happy with the first 2 and was just "its fine" with 3 as they're not british enough. >>223540056we are simple men
>>223533067Gruel and angst aren't the problem with those movies, it's really because they're part of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously, each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert. Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.>a-at least the books were good though"No!"The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
