Millennial here. I abandoned record collecting in favor of drinking and doing drugs. Then I stopped doing drugs and am now back to record collecting. Anyone who got suckered into hardcore leftism in the past 20 years got their brains melted far worse than me.

This kind of guy has never been attractive, its just that before hypergamy they used to occasionally get pussy or paired up. Post hypergamy they are hopeless and indeed they had to transition to a more high energy signal activity to try to snatch vulnerable bitches with varying degrees of success.
Also women no longer go to things like record shops, remember before smartphones there was literally nothing to do all day, people had these niche interests even women out of sheer boredom.

I think this is a massive part of it. "Doomscrolling" has become the default way the majority decompress and relax. Sitting down and watching an entire movie, listening to a whole album, or god forbid reading a book is seen as something exhaustive which takes serious mental focus; while before was something that was mostly done out of leisure.

In the 90s and 2000s lots of popular movies and shows were written by dudes who were complete losers and these stories were their own fantasy wish fulfillment where they get the girl instead of Chad. Women were never into nerds and geeks. Movies are not reflective of reality.

It's so gross to think that most people actually just scroll their phone all day when they have free time. I have kids so free time is at a premium, and I feel like I can never cram as many activities in as I want. Movies, games, hiking, shopping, eating out, any chance I get my wife and I are going crazy trying to get all these things done. And on any night of the week when the kids are all in their rooms we'll always watch a movie or tv show in our bedroom.

Nah. These kinds of guys are still thriving in their spaces. They continued to eat good into the late 00s and early 10s during the hipster vinyl revival. And after that when arthoes sprung up. Now it's zoom zooms who use rym, collect physical media and talk into tiny mics about some band they just discovered which was talked about endlessly 15-20 years prior or some new band that is so pastiche and they don't even know it. You give one of them some good recs and they'll think you're so cool.
