The One-for-you-one-for-me style where you'd get a good director, he'd make some schmaltzy movie that appeals to general audiences so the studio would greenlight their weirder non commercial passion projects. Zack Snyder with dawn of the dead/300, and M. Night Shamalamadingdong with the 6th sense are the object lessons. They made the studio a shitload of money, and they had a decade of films that underperformed in the box office and with critics, but you keep rolling dem bones for a while because there's a chance they make another hit. Nolan with batman begins and especially the dark knight got a free ride from WB that would still be going on today if they didn't push the streaming release same date as theatrical, and nolan is a theater guy. Unlike the other two I don't think any nolan film as underperformed except for Tenet.

I liked the movie and the actors. Sets looked nice and it's well made, but the subplot about his daughter didn't really add much. There are a couple of (very) funny moments, but it loses a bit of steam. I just saw some of the critiques and I don't agree that the plot is scattered or confusing which seems to be the main problem, it works fine. I hope people can look past the most obvious message the movie is presenting. Can't bruise the Cruise, solid 7/10 movie that will be more appreciated with time.
