Another 3 movies for the autism sheet

>1013 Briar Lane
For just being one guy in a house, this was an effective FF supernatural movie. Only 73 minutes long so it doesn't drag on and is an easy watch. I'd recommend it to fans of the genre.

>Lets Scare Julie
The fuck kind of boring ass bullshit is this? I thought it was going to be something WAY different. Maybe that's my fault, but goddamn I just didn't care about anything going on or the characters.

>Dead Of Night
Why did nobody tell me about this? Do you like slasher movies? Do you like a 3rd act massacre? Do you like a massive body count of over 20 people? Do you like an opening kill and body reveal like they did in Scream? Well fuck yeah you do because this movie has it all.

Psychological horror movies uses dramatics to attempt to get under your skin, rather than relying on fleeting thrills, but they're not "dramas" per se. It's difficult to explain the mechanics of how they work with 4chan's character limits to someone who have never been affected by that type of film or if films like The Conjuring or Friday the 13th is what they think best represents the horror genre rather than films like The Shining or The Silence of the Lambs

Take for instance The Blair Witch Project or Lake Mungo: structurally they're dramas, and yet people who are actually into dramas aren't gonna watch them unless they also happen to be into horror as well. What's scary/unsettling about these types of movies usually is in the way they depict madness, the depravity and evil of human nature, of forces outside our control, of the implications, and in order to do that properly you need dramatics and lots of them which leads to slower paced movies. That is why those types of movies are usually very divisive because one person will have sat in a dark room for two hours where "nothing happened" then get angry for having his time wasted but another person just watched a movie that gave him a serious bout of existential dread in a way he can't explain

Sotl is in a unique position in this space because structurally it's a crime drama/thriller and is tightly paced so it has broad mainstream appeal but the psychological tension and the way it's shot/written also makes it a scary horror to a great many people. Roger Ebert was one of the only major critics at the time who called it a horror film in his review and gave it 3.5 stars, whereas Gene Siskel famously gave it a thumbs down because he didn't feel it was as scary as advertised. Ebert also gave BWP 4 stars because it was very effective for him, but there are quite a few horror fans who will tell you it's just boring and lump it in the "nothing happened" horror category
>>
>>223600574

Just finished. Found on letterboxd, but this is actually a fully AI vertical video microdrama series, not a traditional feature. A bunch of influencer looking bimbos at a mansion are getting offed by a slasher with a flying guillotine partially made out of live worms. Aggressively meta, shrill, mostly a venting exercise for the director. Ends with the director as a character having his slasher killing all his neckbeard online critics. References Charles Band and Thundercrack! within seconds of each other. I like this director :) Episodes are only a little over a minute apiece, whole thing is a little over a half hour. I love slop. :)

Why does crying sound ridiculous? Meanwhile with Ed Harris on The Abyss
>Ed Harris reportedly punched James Cameron in the face after he kept filming while he was nearly drowning.
>During the rigorous and problematic shoot, the cast and crew began calling the film by various derogatory names such as "Son Of Abyss," "The Abuse," and "Life's Abyss And Then You Dive." Director James Cameron said that he got so tired from working 6 days a week, 10 hours a day (sometimes more), that he would sometimes fall asleep during dinner in bed, waking up in the morning with a half-eaten plate on his chest and clenching a fork in his hand. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio reportedly suffered a physical and emotional breakdown because she was pushed so hard on the set, and Ed Harris had to pull over his car at one time while driving home, because he burst into spontaneous crying.
>>
kek wtf I just saw a reference to this in a cartoon my lil cousin was watching
>>
>>223603118
Not even the best Ed Harris - The Abyss trivia
>During filming Ed Harris demanded cabbage as a snack/meal as he was on a strict diet. This however became almost unbearable for him and indeed the rest of the crew as he was constantly farting and giving himself and the other crew members the dry boak. In one underwater scene where Harris was in his diver suit, he farted and the smell was soo intoxicating that he actually vomited inside the suit. The scene was obviously cut and it took hours for Harris to resurface, clean the suit, submerge and re-shoot the scene. Cameron was reportedly furious with Harris for this and took action by placing air fresheners in all the actors and crew members suits to help ensure that there was no repeat of the incident. Harris also got pink eye during filming and had to wear contact lenses for a week.

You can't find this trivia in IMDb anymore, they want to memory hole it

Not all. The blame should be on the unions, law makers, and tiny hat tribe. It all flows down from the tribe. They control what gets taught, how it can be taught, what teachers can do, funding, etc. Teachers have almost no power or control anymore.

You're missing the point because you're mad at teachers for no reason. Return the power to them like they had in the 50s and before where if a kid was acting out you can beat the fuck out of them. Little tyrone wants to blast music in class, you get to slam his head off the wall and paddle him.

Put the fear of authority in kids and they fall in line. Happened in my nearly all white HS. Some wigger tried to stab the ex-military principal. Watched Obsession finally. It was OK. Could have been much better for the premise. Like he never told her to stand stock still and piss herself. There should have been some wordplay that caused her to do the weird shit. Instead it just kinda happened because this is a horror movie I guess. And the dialogue when people were being "hip and normal" was IDK zoomery? People said fuck a lot for no reason and in a way that makes me feel like I am getting old.
Yandere horror plot had some unrealized potential.

these are my thoughts to the letter and I feel like a schizo reading about how people think its the best horror of the last 10 years. falls apart when you think about it for more than 10 seconds which I guess explains why a lot of people like it. so much shit just happened for the sake of a spooky scene. why did the wish make her walk backwards inhumanly? idk because it looks weird and creepy.

>>223610895
>falls apart when you think about it for more than 10 seconds
I think you've got it the wrong way around. The "le monkeys paw" skin is a total feint. It's not breaking those rules or failing to be about obsession because that's not what it is. It's about the fear a totally alien entity. He asks for love that isn't real, and he gets it.
>>
>>223610738
>>223610895
I had that same problem, but discussing it when the movie was new was impossible, people were being too hyperbolic in either direction.
I just can't over how
>I wish she loved me
somehow manifested as
>I wish she would act like a hostile martian in a skin suit that doesn't know how to act like a person
>>
>>223610738
>>223610895
The wish manifests in whatever way the Djinn who makes the toys wants it to.
He made an evil wish taking away someone's autonomy, it manifested in an evil way. She was possessed by the wish itself, and somehow also imprisoned both within herself and somewhere that she could be tortured by the phone man (djinn)
I loved it but I understand why someone wouldn't like it. I'm just easy to please. It was scary, had lots to think about, and was ambiguous enough for me to use my imagination to fill in the gaps
>>
>>223611015
>He asks for love that isn't real, and he gets it.
No, he just asked for love.
Unless you mean in the sense that the wish was making love out nothing (at all)
but at the same time the wish made money out of nothing, so there's no actual reason for it not to be able to also just change someone's brain chemistry
>>
>>223611033
cool headcanon. in mine, they took an alien's soul and stuffed it into her body with her and tried to explain to it what love was
>>
There's no logical way that ghosts could actually exist so I guess all ghost movies suck
>>
>>223611019
Not just "doesn't know how to act like a person" but "specifically chooses to do the most malicious things possible to Bear". I like the ending, having her jealousy and obsession end that way is fitting, but getting there they just did whatever they felt like with her.
My theory is that they had ideas for a bunch of unconnected random "tik-tok viral" scenes with an obsessed girlfriend and threw em in, and I guess it worked.
>>
>>223611038
What I mean is that he unknowingly used a magic/demonic/whatever power to meddle with reality.
i.e. that it's not a "get too much of what you wished for" film, it's a "you can't get love through demonry, so here's a freakish approximation".
I liken it to ordering something off aliexpress that turns out to be a horrible knockoff that electrocutes you.

I thought about Obsession for weeks after it came out and it just made me like it more the more I thought about it lol
The ambiguity that others hated (such as a lack of explanation for her bizarre behavior) just stimulated my imagination more.
But, again, not throwing shade at anyone who disliked it. It's a divisive film.
