Was the ending gay and reddit? I mean 7 years was what the justice system was gonna give him. The same justice system that Kim and Chuck loved so much. But then he has to turn reddit and bump it up to life in prison for no reason? Because of... the heckin law? It makes no sense. He sabotaged his own defense to have some weird moral victory which makes no sense from a legal/moral point of view. And also if it's about Jimmy vs Saul, I thought the show more than established that both Jimmy and Saul are scammy/slippy by nature, this whole split personality thing is a giant reddit meme.
>>
>REDDIT REDDIT REDDIT DO I FIT IN GUYS????

yes
>>
>>223704501
>I thought the show more than established that both Jimmy and Saul are scammy/slippy by nature, this whole split personality thing is a giant reddit meme
"he was being Jimmy in this scene" commentary remains the stupidest fucking thing in the BB verse
>>
>>223704501
He did it because the writers needed his story to end. If he was free after 7 years, he'd go back to slippin'. A life sentence was how they brought about a definitive end.
>>
>>223704549
Yeah. So Jimmy is basically retarded and instead of taking a pretty harsh sentence he just loves taking on the sins of others, like murderers and drug dealers, so he can have a million years in prison because that's what a good person would do.
>>223704567
So what if he went back to slippin? What if he goes back to slippin in jail? Just let him have his "I didn't get away with it, but also I'm the best" moment and leave it at 7 years. Idk I guess in this day you can't have someone get away with anything. It's just moral virtue signaling. Compare it to a classic like the usual suspects. That would've been an end worthy for Saul Goodman. Also you know it has social justice written all over it because his ex gf is actually free as a bird with a new boyfriend kek. If they love karma justice so much, why not do to themselves what they faked for Howard Hamlin.
>>
>>223704501
as the other anon said, the writers couldn't let saul win in the ending. It was either life in prison or death for saul and choosing death would probably be too similar to Breaking Bad's ending
>>
>>223704501
Its a message about giving up your dual identity and finally coming clean to yourself and the universe, and probably even God, as well as to a legal system’s real judgment, because so long as you’re able to manipulate your own sentencing, you will never be truly rid of that evil other self, and will never return to the person you used to be before you started all these lies. 4chan users have trouble understanding this, but I think it is written 10 years from now you will know exactly what went on here and have a quite a bit of respect for it
>>
Only way he could time travel back to being the Jimmy his loved ones cared about, was by killing evil Jimmy (Saul) in the present timeline by destroying all of the lies that are necessary for him to survive in a habitat.
>>

>>223704516
This. I'm so fucking sick of it. Who gives a rip about reddit??
>>
Or rather, past Jimmy time traveled into the future and sentenced his evil self, so his life could be complete. Because if his evil self prevailed, then that’s all he would have ever been, whereas now good Jimmy has prevailed and taken back the life stolen from him by false identity B.
>>
And you know what it does bother me exactly how much you guys don’t get this
>>
>>223704651
Nah I know what you're saying but that makes no logical sense here. In the world you describe, those good guys who Jimmy tries to honor are Chuck and Howard. But even they would "manipulate" the law to get a better outcome for themselves. Like Howard trying to get more money out of a class action lawsuit for old people who wouldn't even see the extra money if it continued for a few years. Or Chuck lying to Jimmy about their mother on her death bed. Also not interested in worshipping jewish midrash, thanks.
>>
>>223704612
>So what if he went back to slippin?
So there'd be another season and another season and another season
>>
>>223704501
We never needed a Saul prequel. Who tf cares how Saul became Saul? I hate this obsession of people thinking interesting side-characters need their own spinoffs. They work as side characters because they are used sparingly. You would like to see more of them but at the same time this risks overexposure and they lose their appeal. Saul doesn't even act like Saul for 90% of the show anyway.
>>
>>223704501
I'll tell you one thing. Bob Odenkirk, in interviews, was like "I just hope Kim forgets about Saul and goes back to Florida with her fella and lives a nice life." KEK!!!!!!!!!! and SUPERKEK for not thinking Kim isn't in a hell of her own making in Florida. Ugh!
>>

This part of the ending does feel cucked and white knighty. She should have also gone to jail.
>>
the only good thing was the oc and the final reveal when they talked about the time machine

>>223704501

>>
>>223704704
This
The point of the "straight-laced" characters is to show you what it's loke when criminal personalities are able to find a niche within the law.
Unlike Jimmy (who had feelings), Chuck was genuinely a psychopath with very little ability to implement empathy.
Compare Chuck's feelings about the public defender cases to Kim's.
Chuck felt they were a good way to establish yourself, and stopped doing them completely when he didn't have to.
Kim, once established, couldn't respect herself UNLESS she was doing public defender work.
>>

what's the point, man? this guy was self-sabotaging his perfect escape just to feel the old thrills again. there's nothing else he wants out of life anymore. i have no idea why people had a vested interest in him escaping yet again. this isn't like walt who had corrupted goals/the urge to put out the fire he started

So he wanted to play the big moral guy to... look cool in front of her one last time? How is what he did even worth life in prison anyways? He never signed off on killing anyone, he just laundered drug money and did lawyer stuff. What about her? Why didn't she give herself a million years for covering up a cold blooded murder by a wanted drug lord?

>>
>>223704704
fascinating post desu, anon tells you the exact reason why he did it and you read the words but still can't comprehend why Saul would do something "illogical" just because the good guys bend the rules. Saul knows he deserves more than 7 years, he wants to be punished
>>
Kim had decided that she couldn't live with the guilt, and wanted to be punished, because despite being an evil cunt she was a just person. Jimmy realised after years of "exile" that what he really wanted was Kim, and if he went through with his scheme of a minimum sentence he'd never have her. By owning up to his misdeeds he earned her respect, which meant they still had a future together even if he was behind bars. As established throughout the show Jimmy pursues things and then learns he doesn't actually care for them. The law, the desk, the job, the money, the pride, the exile, etc. He was happy in Cicero, he was happy in the mail room, he was happy in the prison cafeteria. Jimmy just wanted people to love him, and he didn't need anything else.

It doesn’t matter if the good guys are imperfect or make mistakes, Saul has made every mistake in the world by following his own judgment, and it destroyed his soul and killed his family, while denying every offer along way to turn around and do something good and prevented this disaster. Are you content to consider your soul completely irredeemable just because you believe there are no honest people to confess to? And what if your belief that no person is honest is actually your own corrupt defense mechanism, the likes of which have driven you to this terrible place the whole time? Would you be happy living in a world where there was absolutely no option to save your soul? Are you gonna let your soul go unsaved just because the good guys do bad things too? I already said it is written, 10 more years before either of you understand this.
>>
I wouldn’t expect any of you to understand, you’re currently at addiction rock bottom so deep you can’t even properly communicate with people or properly function at work. You continuously complain about failed relationships, and then turn around and argue in the most disgusting terms exactly why your bad behavior is the only way to go. You’ve been wrong the whole time and so has Saul, until after TEN YEARS of spiritual ruin, had the decency to realize it so again. 10 years it is written, then you will understand. You will see in yourself how ugly the ugly American really is

Its literally not about Kim, you have awful at interpreting the actions of men around women your entire life. Remember, Jimmy transformed into a completely different person none of them recognized, he had transformed into somebody he could not even recognize himself. In order to return to earth before he dies, Jimmy has to confess before all and permanently destroy Saul by irreversibly exposing his lies to the whole world.

>>223705951
>Chuck
>good people
Howard was absolutely a good guy but Chuck? No way Jose.
>>
>>223706051
He was a spaz and terrible interpreting his emotions, and definitely not a good person on the personality side, though he was the highest quality of person on the civic service side. Does Chuck have to be a good person for Jimmy to apologize if Jimmy had a sensibility to say ‘I will not destroy Chuck’s life because that’s all he has left’ would he not have prevented his suicide? Jimmy literally loves Chuck. You’re telling me Jimmy is supposed to go on believing that Chuck deserved the conditions of his suicide because he was ‘not good enough’?

The idea that Saul Goodman has two personalities like a schizo or superhero is retarded
Bob Odenkirk also can't act, he's great in comedies or small bit roles like Saul in BB but doesn't have the range to carry a series of convincingly play the type of character they were writing
Compare his acting to James Gandolfini's and it's night and day

>>
>>223706195
Doesn't matter if the sentiment is good or not, if the execution is shit then the piece itself is shit
Only thing I'll give this show is direction and cinematography, it's great, but everything else about the show from the story to acting to the dialogue to even its length is garbage and indicative of everything that's wrong with prestige tv
>>
He had to let Saul out of his body by confessing him through the mouth before the world, so that he, Jimmy, could finally be exorcised of that evil spirit.

You're a faggot for pushing this like it's deep
Yes, moral confession is a great thing
You know what's gay and cringe? Having a second persona that you "expel" from yourself during this confession because you're le heckin complicated and layered
No, you just confess to the shit you've done. Own up to it, like a man. No need to hide behind a second persona or pretend you have some split personality disorder like a liar (a sin in the eyes of God). Once again, you want a TV show that does this well? The problem is that Vince wrote Breaking Bad and all the faggot Redditors latched onto the Heisenberg persona as if it was a second personality rather than just a visual indicator (him wearing the hat) of when Walt isn't acting morally. They have to believe it's a second persona that makes him heckin complicated and deep bro!!!! You just don't get it!!!!!
That's what you're doing now, drinking the cool-aid and watching a neat idea that hasn't been done in the mainstream for a little while (the confession before an authority figure to expel your sins) be turned into meaningless shit because Vince is a hack who needed to turn Saul into le heckin split personality just like le heckin Heisenberg
You're a faggot and a pseud, kill yourself and go straight to Hell and burn

Right, you find the primary human redemption operation boring and plain, so you have no eye for the finer details or artistry behind it. A 4chan user, after all. 10 years it is written, then you will see.
>>
>>223706405
Faggot you have no idea what you're talking about
Vague posting and pseudointellectualism won't distract from your overall point
You believe that in a religious confession, people expel a secondary persona that they give a little nickname to. That is gay and completely wrong. See >>223706388
Tell me you've never been to a confession booth if without telling me you've never been to a confession booth. Real men just own up to the shit they've done they don't need a gay little persona
>>
>>223706405
>A 4chan user, after all

>Kim doesn't even do the finger guns back
>she's just like: k thx for confessing, bye
or what was that last scene?
>>
>>223706440
>>223706388
That’s a lot of thrashing, bro. The show is about a dual identity person who had lost himself in his evil identity, and the resolution was confession of that identity which allows him to return to his original self. That’s what happened. And I bet you think all that time travel stuff was a loony joke too. Man wanted to travel back to before he became evil, back to his original self.
>>
>>223706440
Yes actually lying about your sin means lying about your identity to your church and your God and immediately causes you to live a double life. You have been living double life like this for so long, you don’t even understand. No, I do not demand you confess religiously, I demand you take these ideas seriously because they very much affect you. And next time you’re facing imposter syndrome or fear about not being who you’re supposed to be, you can think of me. Honesty about your actions to yourself and others is the cure for this condition. Take it or leave it.
>>
>>223706450
Indeed, the actions of these people are drearily predictable
>>
>>223706482
Kek way to move the goalposts
I know it's about a man with a "split persona" and I'm saying that that's incredibly gay and on the nose, it's not subtle and was just thrown in there because faggot Redditors like yourself can't get into subtext so you believe that him wearing the hat and calling himself Heisenberg is some le heckin evil persona inside him rather than a visual representation, like I already said, of Walt about to be and/or being morally bankrupt in that moment, and Vince thought it was deep because he's a hack himself and wrote it into Saul Goodman's character
I already pointed this out at which point you made the ludicrous claim that this is a part of the legal and religious confessional process, that was the point you were vagueposting about before, when in reality those just make you admit what you've done and in the case of a religious confession allows you to be redeemed and saved from your own evil actions.
>le time machine is real it's a show about time travel
And that's how I know you're a Redditor because only Redditors buy into the gay theory this show is actually a time travel show and time travel is real in it
No that was just a metaphor for how Jimmy wishes he could go back and redo things, and not make the same immoral decisions he made previously. This isn't even subtle, this is explained by Walt in that final bunker scene
Once again, I'll reiterate because you're fucking retarded, my point ISN'T that the confessional ending is a bad idea or that it comes out of nowhere, I like the idea and it fits broadly with his arc very nicely, my point is that the execution of it was completely unsubtle, boring, on the nose, and lackluster
>>
>>223706559
Yeah, it’s simpleton symbolism for sure. I agree with that but the reality of attitudes, identities aliases and entirely broken up and split selves is very real. You are using an alias right now. As a matter of fact, if I used your real name right now, it would scare you. Hear your true identities name is a verbal threat against you. Pay attention to that when you say these symbols are petty. Yes you can indeed code switch with a hat. You yourself can code switch right now into a completely different person with a completely opposite moral code, just by putting on a name tag and acting as such
>>
>>223706509
And I agree with that idea in general, but to say it's "le heckin two people inside you" goes against your point completely. The most fraudulent and imposter like thing you could do in that moment is pretend there are "two versions" of you rather than just the one man, who is capable of evil and committed evil, and in order to combat these feelings of imposter syndrome the solution isn't to double down and make up a whole persona with a cute little nickname to blame it on, it's to man up and own up to your actions as something you did and change. There is only one of you, you can't hide behind a fake gay persona anon
>>
>>223706586
Here* your true name is a verbal threat against you

By the way, the format of one person repeatedly asking questions to another person who answers them, is called ‘asking for help’

>>
>>223706633
And where do you get your spiritualism, by accident and 4chan? Sorry, I read a book. Now are you gonna dodge my third mention of the fact that you are using an anonymous username right now to say things you are not comfortable saying as yourself? You throw away your real name’s identity when you post your anonymously, and you use the identity of anonymous to act in ways the original self wouldn’t. Or you invented anonymous so you could be who you really are because that flesh identity of yours didn’t let you be, and you considered a fake identity. More importantly you use both because you’re smart like everybody else and know how to use identity at will. This is all very basic stuff and I know it can be very embarrassing to feel like you didn’t know something important about yourself, but don’t worry this feeling is only temporary. The fact that you have had this conversation with me has accelerated your process and now I read three years it will take instead of 10 before you understand. so it is written.
>>
>>223706667
Yeah, you mean you had to come here and take on the anonymous identity because the things you say are not welcome in other places with other identities. You actually erase your name temporarily, in order to share in the identity of the place that allows you to say what the other identities won’t.
>>
>>223706681
I get your point to a degree anon, but it falls apart when you realise all my friends know I post on 4chan. I use this website literally because I don't have to login and I don't get banned as easily. It's not that deep m8, the deeper thing would be to drop this pretentious holier than thou act, because it is extremely prideful and sinful by nature. I do apologise for my earlier outburst here >>223706667
>>
>>223704501
the ending was dogshit, and not even because of the sentence, just overall badly written. all characters that didn't appear in brba get killed off, kim abruptly leaves forever, jimmy just transforms into saul overnight (and don't even get me started on that "well he always was him" no he wasn't even when he literally called himself saul he was nowhere near that saul we all remember from brba).
>>
>>223706701
I don’t see how that makes it fall apart at all. Maybe I was being too harsh in implying that the anonymous identity is this evil one, but what you’re describing is that we all separately took on a shared identity and a shared alias specifically because we saw that we were friends in ways that real people in our lives could not be, and in some part because of how we act, or are. In fact, one of the most popular things to tell a new user here is to lurk more, which is to say, ‘watch how we post until you post in the same way, to the point where we cannot recognize you as an actually other person than we the collective’. That’s an adopted shared identity that allows for shared communication and a vocabulary we all loosely agree on and trust. If someone comes here and tries to put a name on themselves or uses a word we wouldn’t, we immediately say they don’t belong. Take notice of that.
And what process do you think you would have to do in order to show the people in your real life who you really are? What would you have to tell them for your two aliases to finally combine and they know your real name and the anonymous man has the same person? This would be a confession, I wager.
>>
>>223704501
Better call Saul was such a bad show. It was slow and boring and poorly written. It spent the first few seasons obsessing about a nursing home. That story arc was boring. The more fun and interesting cartel stuff was mostly left by the wayside in the beginning. I wanted to see more of nacho and Gus and Mike and how they built themselves up. Not dwell on some dumb nursing home bullshit. What pissed me off is how the writers inserted modern politics into the show. Kim’s betrayal of her client over some Indian bitchs photograph of a guy in a horse upset me. Because she conspired against her client. A man who owns a bank would’ve never hired a woman like that who was sleeping with the enemy. I hated chuck and his bullshit electronics phobia. It was a pointless quirk chungus character trait that once it got old they got rid of him. I hated how jimmy worked his way up in the mail room to become a lawyer. It made absolutely no sense for a man like that. He should’ve been a scumbag lawyer from the very eat go who only moved to New Mexico and changed his name to get away from some bad people for fucking up shit back east. I could tell there were gonna be problems from episode 1 with those two modern day hipsters imitating skater bros of the turn of the millennium. The bare minimum of research would’ve showed them that skater bros of that time they did not talk act or look like the show portrayed them. No they cast two white hipsters with zero talent to portray their idea of a skater bro. Fucking disgusting. But there were some good parts like when lalo confronts jimmy over the shot up car in the desert and Kim comes to his defense that was brilliant and organic writing. But mostly everything else fucking sucked. And the ending was just awful. Slippin jimmy could’ve and should’ve gotten out of it all of it. His end should’ve came at a mafia hit man who tracked him down and killed him for the aforementioned fuck up back east. Would’ve made sense.

the guy clearly doesn't give a fuck about breaking bad or better call saul, he's just there for the money. like compare cranston's and his interviews. he's like trevor the cartoon from gtav except he's actually able to swallow his pride.

Hm interesting point anon, I don't fully agree but I understand your point now
I think I just disagree with how concrete you're making this "second persona" rather than an abstract concept of the evil one is capable of doing and hiding. I understand your point more and am sorry I called you a faggot so much, I'm drunk and angry
Any books you could recommend for this concept?

Yes. Saul fucks up like a retard for no reason because they had to punish his character for breaking the law. You can't have a likeable character commit crime and get away with it... he had to be cucked by his girlfriend and rot in jail but at least he can hangout with the bros or whatever. call me filtered, but the ending sucks dick. last 3 eps shit the bed hard, remember Nippy?

It’s all a spectrum of course it doesn’t really have to represent full scale demonic possession, but at the same time you can through certain processes and beliefs (and substances) a REALLY different person. Of course, Better call Saul is a clown depiction of these phenomenons, but it’s important to realize where we make these deals and operations in our own life so we don’t get lost not realizing the deals we are making. All the magical talk about life form A and total dual identity is just hyperbolic example to get the point across, as always it’s up to you to parcel out whatever portion of these ideas are important to you in your own life.

Nova Express by William S Burroughs (intentionally drug-induced space-age alien conspiracy fiction written to confess the incurable haunting evil identity he put together after 15 years of parallel addiction, and then accidentally shooting his wife in the face in front of their children) (It’s a big one to tackle, but the bigger thing you wanna notice is that everything he is accusing everybody else of doing, he is accusing himself. Most of that text is not him accusing other people of destroying the world, it is God accusing him of destroying his body, and the cells in his body trying to revolt against his evil brain for how it has horribly mismanaged their system. Amazing and very difficult to read bullshit written in such a way so as to teach you this phenomenon sub verbally so that you may accept it as your frontal lobe is dying, and you lose your vocabulary upon death. Because the only thing that can send you to hell is not being OK with letting go of your ego)

Actually been on my TBR for a while, cheers anon I'll bump it up and read it soon

That’s not a problem, it’s actually the process of education and even exorcism (to be hyperbolic again of course). There is a rational sense of an offense and embarrassment at the suggestion you do not know something important that you are now being told, that’s natural. When people start repeatedly criticizing your point by asking questions, it’s important to realize that no matter how angry they seem, they are actually interviewing your thought process and checking where it does and not integrate into their own. End of this process, you eventually realize if the message is true then you are being told something you already knew and now have integrated that understanding into yourself better. You can save entire marriages this way. I started you at 10 and then graduated you down to three year, now I say, in only one year remaining, you will truly understand this as if they were your own words

Yes it was retarded. A far more satisfying ending would be Jimmy getting off lightly, only to be released and live an extremely hollow life wracked with guilt.
For some reason Vince just wanted to give all the main characters "good endings", which is pretty stupid when writing character drama like BB and BCS, where a "good" ending would be unrealisitic.
Walt is able to save Jesse and get revenge on those who wronged him, all whilst bleeding out blissfully as he reminisces on his love of chemistry; Jesse runs away into the sunset against all odds; and Jimmy, although spending life in prison, is able to be content knowing he has won back the love of his life and has made up for his past wrongs.

What redemption does exist though at certain costs. Why just show the man broken, now we get a taste of what a resurrection really looks like.

But* redemption
