I work in business foreclosure and I see it often.

Many older people that come into money think they can get into niche, skilled industries and have an investment that they can sort of half-way manage as their own boss and make a lot of money off of it. This only ever works when they own the real estate outright.

When you take on a business, you need years of training and experience in it. You also need to know how to work with people and retain employees.

Most of the people I deal with buy franchises and pile on debt. They buy a name and some equipment for several times what it would cost to make something new, heavily rely on employees to stay and keep it functioning without knowing the ins and outs themselves and then are burdened by huge liabilities; interest payments, overhead, payroll, turnover and leasing costs.

Not including the commercial property purchase valuation, Dean paid $1.5 million for $150k worth of kitchen equipment without having any experience as a restaurant manager or chef.

>if we all buy a cameo at once he'll be saved
So there's this guy, I don't know if I'd call him a guy, he was never really "one of the guys" but anyways this guy is some limp dicked nerd, living in his mother's basement and he decides one day that he's going to make something of himself so he goes and gets himself a job. So you might think hey maybe he'll move out find himself a girl and be a functioning member of society. Well you'd be wrong. Here we are years later, no house, no car, no girl, no dick but he still has this job so you have to ask yourself, "where does his money go?" But here's the kicker, this job he has, this important job he has, he doesn't get a paycheck for it. He does it for free! Yeah, you heard me right. F R E E free! What kind of a moron does that? You'd catch me trying to suck milk out of Charles Barkley's left titty before you caught me doing a job for free.

typically people who don't have much family or don't feel loved. when you're much older you notice wherever you are sincerely appreciated. restaurants are those places for us. people with money often want to help out these employees who loved them without knowing they had money. a restaurant regular often hears about cooks and servers' children, their sick spouses and parents and pets. you see your photo framed on the wall, doesn't matter if your famous, you're touched, you want to grow old with these people and get rich. unfortunately cocaine is on the menu every time.

If you actually watched that show, you'd know that it was quite possibly one of the most awful things put on tv. Norris was by far the best actor on it, but the others....Christ, they were bad. Open a restaurant:
>neverending fees, permits, inspections, licenses
>notoriously unreliable staff who all have various substance abuse problems
>constant pricey maintenance, repair and upkeep
>dozens of distributors each with their own contracts and reps who will screw you at any given opportunity
>customers are fickle and one bad incident can ruin your reputation
>overhead is ridiculous
>have to stay on top of current food and drink trends
>the norm is for newly opened non-franchised restaurants to expect no profit the first 7 years
>after 7 years, assuming everything has gone right, profit begins to trickle in
>most restaurants have impatient retard rich investors who compare their earnings with what they would have got putting their money in the S&P
It is a terrible decision 99% of the time. Even experienced restauranteurs who have worked in the industry for decades only have slightly improved odds.
Naive boomers and fools who stumble into money always see it as an easy way to make money and have a personal bar to hang out at with their friends. They inevitably rage at the staff when they realize all the food and drink they gave away to women/friends/whoever was around at the time was 'on the house' meaning they have to pay for it.

I knew 3 guys who were bartenders and decided to open a pub themselves, it didn't do bad, but every weekend after closing they'd stay there and drink their own booze. They went broke in like 2 years. Plenty of famous actors and athletes have owned restaurants that have been successful for decades. Ashton Kutcher, Jason Bateman, that guy from Monk, Charlie Hunnam, Mia Kirchner, Kathy Bates etc have owned restaurants that have completed 20 years of success. Most people are bad with money and a vast majority of celebrity are illiterates to begin with.

They probably think they are too good now for regular television shows or streaming slop and hold out for some kind of oscarbait until their stardom wanes and they can’t get any work at all.

The smart move is ironically to do what Trump did and just sell your name to already successful companies without ever being involved in operations

>never run a restaurant.

Well if you are mature you can run a restaurant. Problem is , people are not mature. There is 99 different things that you have to do before you work on the "look" or the menu. Suppliers, licensing , access , who is your foot traffic etc. Boring stuff . People do not want to do that. they want to play "Barbie's restaurant" and decorate and dream of what people will order.

Opening a restaurant is like having children. Any one can have children , many people should not have children.

Even 3 million dollars parked into some basic bitch SandP500 account would net you $150,000 a year after inflation, every year for the rest of your life. Fuck even some basic corporate bonds would get you that lol

Dean Norris made 7.5 million from that show.

Not only that, but think of the lucrative acting jobs he could take after the show.

I can't believe they only paid him 7.5 million lol

Seems the trick is to focus on a small menu of low cost food like pizza/pasta and then get your margin by selling booze. With zoomoids going out less and drinking less the industry must be reeling.

It literally is.
It wouldn't be exactly 150k, it would be more than that on average every year but the purchasing power would stay the same.

If anything I am dramatically underestimating how much money you would earn in average interest.

>without having any experience as a restaurant manager or chef
A lot of athletes and showbiz people love the idea of starting their own restaurant for some reason, I guess they daydream about themselves coming to peoples' tables and schmoozing them while everyone else does all the work.

I can't believe they don't know how hard it is to get established with a restaurant and stay in business. It's got to be more than a passion project, you have to know what you're doing and that pretty much only comes through experience. Unfortunately these individuals have to lose hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to find that out.

While I agree with you, the problem lies in celebrities believing their own hype and thinking they walk on water.

I’ve always heard really discouraging things about food service in general.
I would think the biggest thing is that its not passive income unless you’re paying someone like $80K a year to not be retarded and manage things for you and if you’re doing that then there goes you’re profit margins.
I doubt Dean Norris was planning to be taking the garbage out at midnight.
I’m also thinking De Niro and celebrities who do this successfully its more “one of the millionaires I do coke with offered me a sweetheart deal to buy into this portfolio so he can say I’m a partner” and not buying a single restaurant outright and trying to turn it into a cash cow.
You can make a lot of money with an array of low margin businesses but its very capital intensive.
Just another victim of NONSTOP ASSRAPE

>Kenny Rogers
>Sandra Bullock
I know most of you retards here are legit retarded and just spout about things, but how does Dean Fucking Norris even stack up to those two?
Kenny Rogers gets that music industry money
Sandra Bullock probably earns more in one year than Dean Norris has earned in his entire career.

Nigger they get audited
>comp all their buddies and give out free appetizers
Lolwwtf. Appetizers don't cost anything. Restaurant food has big markups (300% to over 900%). That's why whenever someone says money is tight the first advice they receive is to stop eating out.

Yes, faggot. It TAKES money to MAKE money. Kenny and Sandra have more capital to burn to get through the rough phases. OP acts like any mother fucker can do it and succeed, especially if you have "celebrity" money, without knowing there are severe degrees in "celebrity".
Oh, cool beans, you can "succeed" if you can afford to pay someone else to manage it for you. Okay, what happens when you have bad seasons or years? It takes deep pockets to pay your staff/partners to retain them. You faggots are way too simple minded..

My uncle ran a restaurant in the 90's/2000's and made money but worked 12 hour shifts every day. Even Christmas we wouldn't see him till like 2 in the morning. I cannot imagine running one today with inflation as it is well I can actually since every place is inflating their prices to all hell
