As someone who grew up watching way too many horror movies I didn't interpret the thorn ring scene as some sort of sexual assault allegory. To me it was more something like the Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I didn't get to see the original scene but if Toby changed it I have to assume he didn't mean for it to be interpreted as Kris literally deflowering Noelle. Why would they want to anyway? All the evil shit is done by the player, if the scene fades to black and the player is not issuing inputs there's no way Kris would do such a thing, it would completely go against the estabilished fact that Kris was trying to protect Noelle.

What happened to Dess?
>>4449442It's obviously all speculation at this point, but my guess is that Dess had some sort of accident while exploring either the shelter of the forest with Noelle, Kris and Asriel that transformed her into something monstrous (the Knight) and left the rest of them traumatized. Asgore then arrives to rescue them and fights the Knight, thinking it killed or abducted Dess, and manages to actually do some damage before it gets away, which is how he got a black shard.As for what exactly transformed Dess, maybe she and Kris were experimenting with Kris's soul for some reason and she absorbed it? Would explain why the Knight is so powerful, and might also be what the lyric about "the promise in our hearts" is alluding to.I have no idea how Kris would have gotten a new soul though, although they seem to have disliked it for some time even before we possessed it.

Since we're doing lore discussion, what do we think about the prophecy? Particularly this bit to keep it yuri focused.Susie gets very excited about this panel and asks Ralsei what the prophecy says about Noelle afterwards, so it's possible she thinks its confirmation of Noelle being in love with her.As for what it might actually mean for the game's story, Gerson talks a lot in this chapter about reinterpretation and reading between the lines. There's been a lot of theorizing that Susie isn't actually the second hero of the prophecy due to the somewhat odd picture (Susie won't equip swords for one thing), and that a different panel says "And last was the girl" with a picture of what is definitely Susie's Rude Buster attack, though I'm not sure about this since there's another panel that depicts all three heroes and that one definitely looks like Susie.There's the obvious love and LOVE dichotomy from Undertale, and the Japanese translation of this panel is "the girl finds out the true meaning of love." The heart also appears to be the human soul.My guess is that it's foreshadowing some climactic moment where Kris gives their soul to Susie, and the sword looks like Kris's sword, too. On the Weird Route we've already seemingly forced some of the soul inside Noelle, and she can equip certain swords, so it works for both routes.I'm really hoping I'm wrong though, I want Noelle to have a more active role in the story instead of constantly being overshadowed by the other main characters or relegated to the Weird Route.I'd love it if Noelle and Susie could save the world with the power of yuri and videogame glitches together, but I'm having difficulty seeing it with the info we have.

Either way, the ultimate result is that Susie dies.Why do I think that? Because it gives the player an actual motivation to do the snowgrave/weird route.The game is doing its very best to make the player love Susie. The weird route is basically about grooming Noelle into being the sacrificial lamb to save Susie.Think about it - the Knight captures Undyne and is going to sacrifice her, and was seemingly going to capture Toriel before Undyne barged in. What do Undyne and Toriel have in common? They're both powerful and they're both girls. Ralsei even specifically refers to Undyne as "strong" when you talk to him about her being held prisoner in the shelter.What happens during the weird route? You make Noelle stronger.Completing the weird route almost certainly won't save Susie - she'll probably die fighting you in the end instead - but the point is that a player who's become extremely attached to her might want to try.If Noelle is actually the one who dies at the end and Toby thinks people will be motivated to do the weird route to try and save her then he's an idiot. Most of the fandom would happily throw Noelle into the woodchipper to save Susie and Kris, and use the weird route as just another opportunity to fuck her over.
