The kid never got retconned but there is absolutely no new info about her, but perhaps sometime in the future something will be done about that. The Kyoshi novels follow the life of Kyoshi when she's 16 and 17 years old. In the first novel she girlfriends Rangi, her bodyguard, and they are pretty explicit throughout the series about their relationship. I would say that the Kyoshi novels count as yuri literature just because of how prominent their relationship is in them despite romance not being the main focus.

while technically true, you would be disappointed if that is your reason for giving the show a chance. The show is 4 seasons, in the first 3 it's completely (and super cringy) het, the last one has some very very very minor implications that could be mistaken as friendship and only semi-confirms it in the very last minute of the show. The comics are more explicit(though the writing is shit)

Kya, Rangi and Zeisan (Sozin's sister) are lesbians. Plus Kyoshi became Rangi's girlfriend 1/3rd into the very first novel so no idea how you can call that "a good chunk". And anyway, since it was canonically confirmed that Kyoshi is a bislug in the comics the novels' author wanted to depict that, even though it's only mentioned in a couple initial chapters of the first novel. He clearly wanted to show Kyoshi dating a woman instead considering that 99% of the romantic content in the novels are that.

Also as for Korra it's obvious that Bryke shoehorned Korrasami in the last 3 minutes in order to deflect any criticism from the rabid SJWs at tumblr which at that point were the only fans left since Nickelodeon pulled the show from TV. That's why I never really liked Korrasami that much, but at the end they stick with the decision and made the comics gay. And at least Korrasami being heavily implied in those last 3 minutes made producers give in to creators wanting to include lesbian characters in cartoons after it. You could also argue that Kyoshi being bisexual is a consequence of the coverup they tried to do for Korrasami in the comics, and that's pretty much true, but at least her homosexual relationship with Rangi in the novels is very organically written. It blows out of the water many romance-focused yuri works.

I do wonder if all avatars are bisexual, though. We know Kyoshi and Korra are, and Roku's friendship with Sozin was questionable. What do we know about Yangchen? Was she taking advantage of the sex segregated air temples?

People ship Yangchen with her companion Kavik but it's all headcanon since the author of her novels confirmed that he didn't want to write Yangchen involved in any romantic stuff. Then he pandered to the asexual fandom hinting that she's asexual but they don't fucking care, they still ship her with this dude. I think the Yangchen novels are the ones that touch the least on homosexuality in Avatar. There is a chapter with some oppressed gay dudes from the water tribe that she helps out but that's about it. Roku's novels didn't even dare suggest that Roku and Sozin had anything more than friendship, but funnily enough they did go on Sozin's sister wanting to bang this air nomad nun. The whole thing of the Avatar being bisexual is merely a joke and you have to be retarded to think it's canon (like many many fans do).

Don't be a retard. The fourth season telegraphs them long before the finale. It being a pretty mid pairing and having little screentime doesn't make it a last minute decision.

See above, stop being retarded. When Korra was airing there was no basis for criticism, same-sex main character relationships in cartoons were effectively non-existent especially from a major, kid-audience company like nick. "SJWs at tumblr", beyond being a borderline rounding error that no one was going to make fucking narrative decisions for, never expected confirmation and there would have been no backlash at all even without the stuff that happens in the last episode or the confirmation afterwards, because canonizing gay pairings was an extreme rarity at the time, not the expectation. Tumblr, like /u/, went into the finale just hoping that they didn't sink the ship.
