>>683266458A friend of mine firmly believes that being lord of hollows is great and that actually being a hollow is fine because gwyn put the darksign on humans to restrain them or whatever, and I just point to Ds2 where it is made very fucking clear that hollowing is not a fun time and its really depressing seeing these npcs be affected so deeply by the curse, lucatiel, the armor merchant, the crestfallen knight, the blacksmith and his daughter ect. Its so common that as a newcomer to majula they just expect you to go hollow sooner or later, the cat making snide remarks, crestfallen being crestfallen and the blacksmith all make drangleic feel like a depressing place where the desperate and unlucky go to try and free themselves of the undead curse, and die trying. Seeing fucking vendrick, a king and conquer brought so low as to be a giant hollow shambling about in his grave with just a greatsword in hand is so grim.

Lucatiel still explores and tries to find some kind of cure even if she knows deep inside that it's hopeless. The blacksmith still works, people still do stuff around Majula. It's a testament to the human experience that even faced with total hopelessness and despair like that, people still look for hope anywhere they can, even if they know it's ultimately pointless.
