Lost my 4 year old channel a few months ago when ai copystriked the fuck out of it and i got 4 strikes on the same day. Unless you are ready to pay bot farms to pump yourself to trending and willing to make zoomer-friendly videos (grim), you will not make it.>getting paidThe worst kind of motivation to start a channel. YT went downhill when (((content creation))) became a full-time job. The most soulful gaming videos were in 2010 from 20+yo dudes. I have a few videos archived and even now on rewatch I see their appeal>no excessive editing>no overreactions>no spreadsheet gaming>just people enjoying the game with their bros, something I wanted but never could commit toPure sovl. Now, there is nothing. Empty husks of people amplify every interaction to appear enthusiastic and advertisement-friendly. And these people are winning.

>>720616974A friend of mine has streamed and done youtube and twitch for over 10 years and he still has sub 10 views, right now he's streaming to no one. Not that you need to be successful to be happy but I don't think you should be expecting to get paid just by being consistent.
It's a Tiktok world these days. Kids don't have the attention spans for videos longer than 2 minutes.
>>720616974I might have if I had more privacy and a better voice, my voice is too squeaky but also too deep with the same pitch. I don't like the current YouTube landscape however. Either you sell your soul for trash content that you don't like making other than it making money, or you are a honest channel with proper research and video editing up the wazoo until you need to shill your Patreon on every video just to hope you can pay your bills. It's not as extreme on Twitch as it is on YouTube but you'd have to be streaming at all times to build up your audience unlike on YouTube where you can upload one heavy hitter and your career starts from there. Good luck getting a decent audience to watch the obscure vidya you like playing on a partnered channel that hasn't been streaming non-stop for the past 10+ years. Once again you might have to sell your soul to hit it big by playing FOTM games unless you are really into that, but then you are fighting with other low hanging fruit trying to get that sweet revenue. No thanks, I'm better off playing games I like on my boring channel with ~300 subscribers. Sometimes I hit the algorithm and I get 1-2k views on a video, but the comments are always normalfags not knowing/understanding the games I play or making comparisons to normiecore games.
>>720650374No nigger the issue is 90% of shit on youtube stretches out what should be 5 minutes max to like an hour.Tiktok has its own problems like being a chinese state asset to get foreign children to eat laundry products vandalize their communities and connect them with pedophiles. But the fact that the videos are short is NOT the problem.
>>720616974>In 5 years time you could be playing vydia and getting paidor you can be a double digit view channel that still uploads multiple times a week with decent quality videos, meanwhile reactionslop gets 100k+ views just because a girl with a camera is doing it.

I've created two videos for spawn, one for snes and one for ps1. I'm really passionate about making videos, I do heavy researching, try to include everything about the game and have lots of fun with editing. But no matter what I do, some random youtuber who knows nothing about the game uploads them playing it and receives 1 million views. It's not worth to research a lot and do everything if you don't receive anything.I have a very big backlog, was thinking about making a video about every game I beat, but what's the reason if I don't get enough recognition.

>>720656731Subscribers mean jack dick. It's all about views and retention. The metric is revenue per 1k views. Low end you get $2, high end you get $10, but you're not getting that unless your audience is primarily adults with money. That means you'll need roughly between 200,000 views to 40,000 in one month.

>>720657353Dude, if you're not retarded, can speak eloquently, and have some niche skill, all you need to do is make consistent videos until the algorithm picks you up. Just don't expect people to give a shit about your opinions right off the bat, you need to earn that. Think about what kind of videos you would watch willingly and then do that. It can take a few months to pick up, but if you're not trash you'll get some success eventually. Several Youtubers have experimented with starting second channels from scratch just to see if it was luck only to succeed again. Just understand what people want and don't make trash. Also don't try to be something you're not people can smell desperation from a mile away.
I did, I started in january and mainly talk about strategy games. My most watched video has around 6000 views but many of my videos on older obscure games get 100 or so. It's been Fun so far

>>720657241I play a newer PVP game and make vids related to updates, guides and stuff. The results are..hit or miss. I probably don't understand hero shooter people well enough, but I love cape sloppa.
>>720657984If the algorithm isn't picking you up it isn't because you're getting low views, it's because you're getting low retention. Don't actually become a gaming youtuber/streamer, sure it sounds nice just being a useless piece of shit playing video games all day, but then as you've gone through your favorite games you realize to stay relevant you need to drop money on the latest release no matter how shit it is, then you slowly start to see that the times you're negative gives more views so you start leaning into that, you even start playing up your misery until you can't stop, all you feel is misery. Then when you're in your miserable state you're realizing you need to keep up with uploading and streaming games everyday isn't doing it, you need something faster, thats when you realize you had people asking you to watch things, so you start doing that, wow you can just sit and watch other peoples crap? and you can upload it? wow you don't even need to play games, you can just sit there saying "uh huh" every few minutes nodding or shaking based on what audience you've gatherered, probably people that just hate because thats all you've been doing with games, they want to see you the money in a cage throw shit at things so you keep doing that because you need to keep your job, you can't go back to working an actual job, you're free.Right?

>>720672231Yeah that's true, but there are still things you can do with PNGTubing to make it more reactive, like there's even PNGTuber Plus.Having a sort of visual representation of yourself would be more useful than having nocam imo.IDK, you have a voice that I can definetly see doing well as a buff male vtuber model, that can appeal to bros and to girls. So many success stories have come out of that thread and a lot started with just PNGs.
>>720672515It depends on what type of mic you bought. If it's a USB mic, then yes it's just USB.If it's an XLR mic, you need to buy an interface to connect it to.
>>720672210What channel and game?>T. Dev with an alcohol problem
I'm going to post videos of me being autistically good and RE mercenaries with commentary. What are the rules about showing mods? Obviously no nudity but is shit like bikini mods even off limits? Like if I have bikini Sherry in the thumbnail and title it RE6 with mods it would probably get some kind of sexual content warning even though YT has tits in movies but it's OK when they do it.
>>720672716You do make good points. I'll just keep it in my mind for now, there's never harm in considering things.
>>720673087Of course not! If you ever change your mind, you can always give the /asp/ thread a visit (: (Please do ignore the schizo tho, they are just talking to themselves)
>>720616974>all this youtube e-faggot drama>all these e-celebs getting caught botting>turning a hobby into a job >forcing yourself to play shit you can't stand because views, metrics, and bullshitI could ignore all that if I had the patience for video editing. I don't know how these faggots do it. >inb4 just pay someone else to do itWon't that just fuck things up in the long run?
>>720671280You're absolutely right in that sense. Working office jobs with forced drama and HR bullshit is awful. At least you're not caught up in that shit, sitting in traffic, having to deal with mandatory trainings, certifications, and forced staff parties. God those are the worst.
>>720616974I started out on YouTube 14 years ago (2011)Got relatively good views, made it to 10K subs by 2012 and was making around $300 a month in revenue. As time went on I wasn't really happy with what I was doing though, following the trends, making content I wasn't enthusiastic about, so I abandoned the channel in 2014, made a new one and didn't monetize it.It's been almost 11 years now and I have only around 350 subs, and I don't make videos as much as I used to (Effectively stepped into a partial retirement from content creation last year.) I enjoy occasionally making a video, but with YouTube having been a hobby and not a career for the last 10 years, my actual life and responsibilities conflicted with it.No I will not be linking my channel, but you can feel free to ask about my experience if you want.
>>720659565Wrong. The reason game journos are bad journalists is because they hate games already, they want to be in ANY other level of news reporting but they lack the talent, quite frankly. If you love Vidya and can make it a job, you win at life.
>>720673519Seems like you dodged a bullet with all the bots, shills and spam going on the last couple years.
>>720672429youtube incentivizes it since the more "engagement" your videos get the more they'll push them to potential viewers.>leave a comment down below with what you want to see next>do you want to see a part 2 leave a commentThese ones are sorta forgivable because most series fall off hard after the first episode/part so it's better to see if people give a fuck before starting on the next one.

I have been thinking about streaming recently, but I am not sure people would watch some nobody play games like xcom, darkest dungeon or EU4
>>720675325>I am not sure people would watch some nobody play gamesEverybody start out as a nobody, anon. Try it out. If you like it, then do it simply because you like it. If not, then just call it there. The best suggestion I can give you is to never look at the view count. That can be extremely demoralizing until you come to accept that it's okay if no one watches. That's why you should only continue to do it if you actually like it.
>>720617515Only for walkthroughs
>>720672716This is true PNG avatars have a lot of potential that I feel is rarely realized. You can start small add to them later. Also it is easy to swap out the models since there isn't a high cost like there is with vtuber model. If you get really creative you can add in animations around the body.>>720673183Does /asp/ welcome PNGtubers? I checked it out briefly but I didn't see any there so I figured it's not for me.
>>720675325>xcomI almost exclusively watch xcom so let me tell you, even the most popular dudes get two digit viewership at best. Will you find someone who watches you? Yes, think you'll make any money doing so? Not a chance.

I literally deleted my channel at 100k+ subs because the algorithm was so bad it sucked all the joy out of it. Would never recommend that sinking ship.

>>720673681I have seen YouTube change so many times over the years, I think perhaps I was ahead of the curb in realizing back in 2014 that doing YouTube as a long term career was just never going to be viable.Yes there have been success stories, but for every solid content creator out there, there's 10,000 channels of pure slop being pushed and viewed by to and by far wider audiences. And even many of YouTube's top creators have dialed back/stepped down in the last few years, making less videos or just outright leaving because they have accrued enough wealth to pursue other things. It's safe to say the gravy train left the station for the most part for YouTube a very long time ago, and to start now is to go up against almost insurmountable odds.Still, I would wish lucky to anyone with genuine passion and creativity to do what they love, though I would never recommend doing it for money.
>>720676626Thanks for the info, I was thinking of streaming lots of different and obscure strategy/tactics games, not simply sticking with one game so I wanted to start with one with some popularity. I guess xcom is out ha ha.
I already tried. There's no audience for male kemono vtubers playing old DOS/Win95-era games.
>>720678940>5 years later you stumble on someone successful doing this exact niche haha jk. but it COULD happen. basically there's only one question every youtuber should ask themselves: how long can I tolerate putting effort and seeing no return? that's the real question you should be asking yourself. whether you make it or not is out of your control, you can only control your actions.
>>720672812Anonymous AgonyNot hard to find the channel from just that.

I had a channel that I started in like 2011. Got an HD pvr and posted like 2 videos a days mostly commentary walrhroughs. I managed to get re4 HD on ps3 early from Asia so I got alot of traffic bigger channels didn't. I peaked around 700 subs and for some reason deleted my channel. >>720617515I occasionally watch streams live, but not very often. I don't watch raw VoDs or prerecorded content. Only edited stuff.>>720616974I've tried streaming a while back. It was like a vanity circlejerk stream but I managed to drag myself to affiliate on twitch (not that it's hard and I'm pretty sure they just sell those now). It was mostly other fags from discord server that watched each other so it was like 3-5 people. I managed to get like 30 viewers once when I actually played a game that get an update recently. It's pretty hard to fill the airtime with something meaningful, especially if you don't have much chat activity to bounce off and even if you do it's easy to get tunnel visioned and realize you haven't said anything in 15 minutes.

I stream on twitch at least once a week. I have only two real audience members, both of them joined my discord and we play games together occasionally and have become friends, which is probably more than most streamers have. If you look at twitch the number of people streaming with zero audience is pretty fucking insane. I’ve also made friends with other small time streamers who’ll drop by my stream occasionally or collab with me, but I don’t really consider them an actual audience. In a way streaming can feel lonely as fuck when you have a slow night and your regulars can’t make. It’s also lead to me playing games with 4-5 other people which is pretty fun.
Anybody wanna start a channel with me? I stream topless <3. Girl Gamer and yes, we do exist lol!I need some mods n stuff for my channel. Hit me up if ur interested. Thanks!!!!!

>>720650359Yeah if you are just streaming to stream its a waste of time. You need to learn how to game the algorithm or you are just never getting anywhere.
>>720616974my yt channel is old (2009) and has become a mix bag of videos, i dont think the algorithm will ever touch it.
I'd like to but it really feels like you've got to be a complete faggot in your mannerisms to see even mild success. Not one person in the top 10% of youtubers are fucking regular people
>>720685671Do you think being in the top 10% of over a hundred million people is mild success
>>720616974Way too much editing
>>720616974I've considered this for years and even have a few gimmicks that I think would do well but it just seems so annoying to deal with...
>>720685821No, but it demonstrates my point that even the not successful but better off than the remaining 90% are also fags and psychos, meaning unless you act like a complete homo you won't even scratch the surface of YouTube success
>>720682862>I have only two real audience members, both of them joined my discord and we play games together occasionally and have become friends, which is probably more than most streamers have.I got a friend request from a viewer. They're a good audience member, but I feel weird accepting it. Like I don't exactly plan on being they're friend in that kind of way. At the same time, it's not like I have many friends to begin with and denying the request almost makes me feel like I'm part of the problem. If anyone else deals with this, I'd like to know what you think
>>720686440I have quite a few regulars that comment on my videos. How close you want to get them is really up to you. Personally, I try to keep my YouTube account and profile separate from my personal ones. That way, I don't feel like I am letting viewers get too close to me when I chat with them or accept their friend requests. I find it's nice to chat with them about things. I don't think you really need to "be their friend". Just being a casual acquaintance is fine. As I said, let them as close as you feel comfortable with. If they turn out to be a horrible person you don't want to interact with, it's not hard to cut them off if you keep your connections loose.
>>720686440It depends on how well you know and how many viewers you have total. I've had randoms want to play games with me right after chatting with me for the first time, I find that's kinda weird. But I mean if someone is a repeat viewer and you think they're pretty nice, maybe take a chance with them.Full disclosure though I had a scammer play the long game and try to befriend me for over a month only to send me a link to a steam phishing site. Good think I didn't fall for it.
so i just recorded like 70 mins of audio am i doing something wrong why is this shit gonna be 30 gb exported yeah theres alot of dead space and stuff
>>720690531How did you record the 70 minutes? Like, what program?
I started a channel about anime in 2017 but was too impatient, even with some people commenting that they liked my stuff and that i should continue i got frustrated by the low views, felt like nobody was watching adn that i wasn't good enough. I kinda hate myself for it, the covid anime boom made it so basically any anime channel that posted regularly became sucessful. I think i could have made it if i just didn't give up
