Its going to burst, but not in the way you think.
We are going to get another .com bubble in that right now everyone is rushing to get onboard, often to their detriment as its being overused for things its not worth using it for, and then once a few business tank based on overuse the market will freak out and pull back for about a decade.
In the meantime over that decade smaller businesses and hobbyists will steadily improve the tech so that when the big corporations come back the groundwork will be laid for them to use it for real.

AI in the ways that they see it used, is the tool of lazy consumers that are fine with getting an approximate version of what they like churned out enmasse and are tying to drag everyone else down to their standards.

If you want people to like AI, churning out low quality shit is a waste of time compared to bringing up its use in the medial field for diagnoses. But said lazy consumers also don't view it as anything besides a slop machine.

It is cause of the whole "they takin our jurrrbs" mindset that they used to mock blue collar workers who might lose their jobs and livelihood due to mass automation. The real issue of AI art was never it's mistakes

Pick a game with eg. good character designs (eg. A zelda or souls game), there are thousands of little details in the right places all carefully made by the artists to entice specific feelings that are all tied together with the game's other aspects

AI will just randomize stuff from the library of copied (learned) assets it gathered. The generated art can look identical in terms of production values to normal art on a surface level, but it is missing all the little connected details that add depth to the work and connect it well to other works. You might be also able to generate an art that has some cool random idea by simply being a good randomized mix of some already existing artwork ideas, but if you are making stuff for a project with any size you will need to connect carefully all these works, you can't just randomize your way through that, every detail has to be carefully planned
>>

If I was an AI advocate, I would be first in line to get the Dall-e general banned. It's an absolute slop town with 5 talentless autists using outdated tools and giving the whole thing a bad name.

The amount of detail that you can prompt into any given piece has increased exponentially since the inception of generative AI, as has the permanence of features that the prompter chooses to retain across generations.

Again, this is all something that can and most likely will be "solved" given enough time.

>>725563352
Fair point.
>>
>>725563045
because AI is a good technology and has great potential. Especially for videogames. You're just a brainlet.
Look at like this. Doom II (and master levels) are great for the people who enjoy it. Do you honestly think, that people wouldn't enjoy the same gameplay but with better graphics? Minecraft.
Everybody knows how great Minecraft is and people enjoy vanilla, yet there are countless "HD" and "Realism" texture packs and mods for it.
It only ever reinforces the point, that graphics in fact do not matter in videogames. Gameplay does. Then innovation. Graphics are optional and subjective.
Nobody needs countless armies of artists in the videogame industry. It applies to voiceovers, writing, graphics, and everything else.
TL;DR: You're just bitching because you will lose your job. So get much better like a genius artist of all time or learn other skills.

>AI is a bubble
Yes but its a bubble nowhere near close to popping. Housing is also a bubble, and has been for the last 30 years.

>AI uses energy
AI is like Air Conditioning, yes it uses energy, yes people have to build new power stations/data centers because its adding new power demand for the grid. There demand is because people want it. People want to live comfortably in the Nevada desert. People want to have a little assistant help them with work. It also doesn't take anywhere near as much as people claim ("a prompt uses a whole lake!!!" "every generated image burns down a whole square yard of rainforest!!!"), consumer grade AI can be run on a home computer.
AI uses as much power as a high end video game or streaming 4K video.

>AI """steals""" copyright
You didn't complain about google algorithmically scraping the internet and using content for profit for the last 30 years, or any of the other search engines that needed to do that to function as a search engine. Google Image Search is legally and morally fine, but its FAR more "stealing content" than any image generator has ever done.

How long do you think ai has been around?
>>
>>725564161
What do you mean yet? The amount of time that generative AI has existed in any real capacity (That is, beyond it being a novelty) is absolutely miniscule.
>>
>>725563671
>The number of prompted details can increase
Here is the thing tho

Ideally you need to plan EVERY detail. Even just a line on someone's face being millimeters downwards or upwards can change the feeling a design gives. Every stroke matters, every color gradient, etc. The fastest way of visualizing all these planned details is literally to draw that detail.

Same thing with music or writing. Every note matters, you can't make shortcuts and say to the AI to generate a random part, because you are either doing all the details yourself by writing music yourself, or you are not doing all the details, only some of them, and asking the AI to generate more randomized details for you.
>>
>>725564213
And I still don't see how technological progress is in any way related to computers using 10 times as many resources to poorly copy what humanity already reached a much higher level in. To use your logic, AI is like presenting a steam-powered horse in the age of 1960 cars.
>>
>>725564403

>>725564161
wdym? it did. People have already used AI for assets, model and texture generation, voiceovers, etc. You still can't just tell AI to great a videogame out of a prompt, but it might be a possibility in 30 years from now.
As another anon has pointed out yesterday, countless automation tools are in use in software anyway. All of the Photoshop tricks are done with algorithms, all brushes are too. Blender, etc, all use algorithms for specific tasks. "AI" is a yet another algorithm. AI is simply a more complex algorithm for automation of tasks.

>Videogames becamse more and more shit
because it went from nerds in a basement with a dream and desire to make some money to the huge greedy corporations that want ALL of the money and don't give a single fuck about videogames.
Gameplay is shit. Everything is monetized. Innovation is pretty much dead. Whenever you see any innovation of a sub-genre, any creative vision so to speak, in the indie space the game instantly becomes a success. Minecraft, Terraria, Factorio, DF, Stardew Valley, you name it.
And I don't mind new block textures being created by AI, because a texture or a voiceover line is not what I personally play videogames for.
>>
>>725564059
You're right that demand will remain but we're absolutely getting close to the bubble pops with how much debt is piling into the industry now. Even the big tech corps are starting to release bonds for further AI investment, so the typical argument skeptics have presented that this isn't a dot com bubble because its being financed through cash isn't holding true anymore. If it wasn't obvious from these absurd deals OpenAI have been making it should be abundantly clear that they are looking to have the government bail them out on 1.5 trillion in debt they've accumulated under the argument that they need to survive to beat China. (This will be devastating to the US tax payer because I don't even think OpenAI is going to be the winner, if anything I consider Anthropic to be the likely US winner because instead of wasting time, money, and resources on crafting erp chat bots they've focused on developing practical LLMs that corporate America will actually use.) I would be genuinely surprised if the bubble has not bursted by the end of 2027. We are simply just not close enough to AGI to make the current valuations make sense. If we were, you would be seeing technological advancements far more impressive than the ability to have a robot make a video of Sam Altman trying to shoplift GPUs at Target.

The real winners of the AI race are going to be those who build the energy infrastructure necessary the fastest. Sadly, I don't see any sort of wisdom or foresight from the US to be that winner. Maybe if they at least pick up on getting SMRs built after the SMR getting built in Ontario gets competed and if Ontario sees good results from it.

Western "great" "AI" "models" such as GPT, etc, are heavily censored and have very narrow rails, plus the continue to add the frankly irrelevant copyright, etc, to it, which only hinders the progress. They think they have a finished brilliant product that will evolve slowly, but this is not what people want. It's like going from iphone 3 to iphone 16 with pretty much the same camera and OS deisgn, yet making trillions of money in the process. No, don't judge the technology by the commercial industry, that only seeks to milk, control, and be in power. It's like saying that videogames are shit, because %insert recent AAA shit woke slop name" is garbage. It's like saying videogaming sucks, because Anthem and Concord flopped.

Easy tiger, as I already tried to imply in my first sentence I agree with you that the overall field of "AI" will persist after the bubble pops. (For the record, I am pro AI. I just think the true value of LLMs is in other fields rather than from the product OpenAI is trying to sell.) Just like how more and more users still picked up and engaged with using the internet year over year even after the bubble popped and expectations finally started to match the financial reality. Amazon lost 97% of its value in the dot com bubble and look at where it is now.

That being said, while Im thankful it's not going to be my problem personally, concern should be raised over the current valuations because the overall impact on both the US and global economy will be massive when it finally pops, especially if the US government is retarded enough to pay for Sam Altman's dumbass loans with tax payer dollars to ensure that his unprofitable snake oil company survives. This house of cards will tumble the moment OpenAI fails to make payments towards the 1.5 trillion they owe, and there's simply no way they are going to become profitable at the rate necessary to make those payments. Its going to be an AI winter in the meantime. People will still work on developing AI during that time, but with less money and attention pouring into it. (Which is fine!)

Its a slop maker, personally I prefer quality over quantity. A lot of the little details that anon is talking about come from the actual process of creating, which is a step that gets skipped if you're just prompting AI to do it for you. Even if you have fantastic ideas, the final product is missing a whole layer. That's something that cannot be solved no matter how good the technology gets. The only "solution" would be for AI to actually become aware and achieve creative intent of its own.

Anti AI artists and luddites had nothing to do with it. Hell they didn't even exist when those initiatives started. It was just to get more and cheaper devs into the labor market.

AI thus far has served no purpose greater than making everything look cheap and or shitty, scamming the elderly as well as your kin, the midwits, and just lining the pockets of Silicon Valley Californian FAGGOTS who like to think they’re gods gift to the world and the next evolution in human creativity because they finally, FINALLY, gave retards like you and half the Neanderthals ITT the “ability” to realize your visions without even a smidgen of the knowledge necessary to achieve something better than “Duhhh what if I made Mario turn into a pile of shit to own this Snoy durrr”. GenAI isn’t useful, like the loom. GenAI isn’t revolutionary, like a car. It’s doesn’t provide the solution to any reasonable problem other than laziness and utter aptitude. It’s vapor. Its redundant. It’s technological stagnation. I reiterate, you don’t know what Luddite really means. NFTs will happen again. Governments and corporations would fucking LOVE to be able to copywrite and control images and information on the internet more, while making money on them. They just need to find a better way to market the idea. It will eventually happen.

Not everything, obviously. But if you think that it is impossible for generative AI to some day be able to create exactly what you prompt of it, then you haven't been paying attention to the humongous leaps it has already made in the past few years. In fact, let's flip the script. Why do you think it ISN'T possible?

That's true, but that's part of why they were so successful in taking control of culture. Dismissing art as a left wing thing doesn't seem to be a winning move

It most certainly did not. And plateaus in technology have historically been temporary. Of course infinite progression is not feasible, but to imply that a new technology has reached its apex in a few years (or even decades, if we are being generous with definitions) is outright dumb.

assuming that all technology progresses at an infinite rate forever and never plateaus is what midwits who think that technology is like magic think. technology is not magic, you cannot make anything happen simply by giving a scientist a lot of money. it's sort of like someone in 1969 assuming that ftl travel is gonna happen because we just landed on the moon.

AI speculation investments will explode, yes. But the tech is never going away, that never happens ever. If you aren't going to use it, there are 1.4 billion Indians and 1.5 billion Chinese that are ready and willing to embrace it and utterly replace you and your "skills".

This is a very "food comes from the store" kind of post. If you truly want to live without anyone else doing anything for you, there is nothing stopping you from going off the grid and living in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. You'll never do this because you want the comforts of modern life, you want the fruits of other peoples work, but you don't want to give anything back. You do not want to be "left the fuck alone", because if that was true you would've done so already and fucked off to live innawoods. You want the workers at the power plant to give you electricity, you want the workers at the sewage plant to give you clean water, you want the farmer to give you food, you want the factory worker to give you computer parts, but you do not want to do anything in return.

There are hundreds of such papers published by medical professionals, and all of them arrive to the same conclusion that there is a huge paradigm shift coming. It's not a matter of if LLMs will be integrated into the workflow of drug research and discovery, it's a matter of when.

Im not. I actually think AI is here to stay, but the current models are not primed for actual work. They are only decent for entertainment and this is why they cannot fully automate anything.

AI is the future, but AI running things and AGI are still sci-fi. They need to come up with some real life application or just figure out how to solve their energy problem, otherwise they will need to substantially cut back and downsize their AI projects.
