Dota 2 players, do you regret the ridiculous time you've sunk into the game?
8500k hours since beta, a chunk of that idle menu time (10%?). Kinda but also no.Love the game, hate the playerbase. Couldve learned something useful that could make money or impress people but i mostly enjoyed, or was at least stimulated by the games i played.
nearly 3k hours I guess sobut I was a teenager when I played this game the fuck else was I gonna do with my time? staying up til 4am at weekends gaming with my friends was comfy
>no new hero announced for the first time since fucking decades
>>727886876I played Dota as a teenager up until my 30s. I do not regret it, because I had fun sometimes. I remember some NPC Nigger on 4chan asked me>How do you play a game that long?and they'll probably spend this amount of time on 4chan. People just don't have any self-awareness at all. That's exactly why ethnics are so unlikeable.
>>727887290What video games do you play now?
>>727887439Did you play any other games in that time period or were you just a dota 2 fag?
>>727887768I played other games as well. This screenshot was from when I played World of Warcraft.
>>727887830I even played the latest expansion of WoW, but I hit max level, and it was crazy boring afterwards.
I only put like a thousand hours in before escaping and regret every second.
>>727887449mainly just chill single player stuff, usually things I've already played a million timesrain world, morrowind, deus ex, new vegasoccasionally I'll reinstall crusader kings 2, rimworld or factorio and lose a weekend I haven't played anything vaguely competitive/online in years
What else am I supposed to play when I want PvP? Blizzshart faggotry? lmao
>>727888361Become a 1v1 skill based pvp enjoyer Rts, arena fps, and fighting games are your friend
>>7278883618k hr dota player here Escape from Tarkov is the only other PVP game I like.
>>727889063You should try hunt showdown my man
>>727889063By any chance have you tried spp with sains ai?I heard its on par with actual players
>>727886876I have 9k hours, been playing since 2008. There is no other multiplayer game in the market that gives me pure joy like DOTA 2.
>>727889242Do you watch Dota 2?
>>727886876
>>727886876No
10k hours. 700 pudge games. im waiting for my queue penalty because i joined a game and forgot i joined so it gave me an abandon lol. i wouldve been playing otherwise
>>727886876Not one second of it. Hell I regret not playing it more when I was younger and had more free time. I never could've gone pro but I would've been happy to have peaked high on ladder as a memory.
>>727889634>im waiting for my queue penalty because i joined a game and forgot i joined so it gave me an abandon lol.How long is the penalty?
>>727888958>only gay modern arena shooters are alive>1 decent RTS still alive I already play sometimes>all non-dead fighting games are censoredlol
>>727886876played since the early days of the wc3 map, quit when i read the patch notes for 7.33. i enjoyed every second of it. truly the best multiplayer game ever made if you are high iq and like to be challenged. dota 2 makes other games feel like a child playing with lincoln logs. i quit at the right time but dota has left a void in my heart that no other game will fill. esports killed the game because its existence means the game will never be balanced. they have to rubberband nerf teams that work in pro games and buff random shit to make esports exciting which is in direct conflict with the goal of creating a balanced competitive game. the fact you can't play with friends even if they're the same mmr as you without being penalized sucks. every lobby being tryhard-y sucks. smurfing being bannable sucks because its the only way to play with friends and yes they will ban you for smurfing unranked or turbo. all this is because valve caters to high mmr players who don't want noobs climbing using team games and shitting up their lobbies but the way valve fixed it killed the growth of their game.im not even bitter i played pro dota for a bit.
>>727886876I played 8000 hours and ~6500 games from 2014-2018 it was a horrible addiction and destroyed my self-esteem so yes I do regret it
any other antediluvian niggas in here old enough to remember tides of blood? it was more popular than dota allstars for a long time and oozed sovl but nobody even remembers it. fell apart to dev drama i think.
>>727889348I don't watch dota esports anymore, most of the pros (if not all) aren't entertaining outside of dota. I wish valve didn't remove all-star matches, I miss Chuan, puppey, dendi, bulldog, arteezy, notail, xboct.
>>727889912age of empires 2 still has a community and gets regular balance patches and content. not the most competitive rts but a great chill casual one to play with friends. actually has noob lobbies and a playerbase, not super hard to get into.
>>727886876I stopped playing dota years ago because it stopped being fun >6,600+ hours played, started during open beta.
>>727890201>most of the pros (if not all) aren't entertaining outside of dotaWhy do people have to entertain you? Are you entertaining?
>>727888958all of that is far, far, worse than playing dota 2 in 2025.
>>727890314Let me you show you how entertaining 4chan is. You guys ask shit of others that you don't even have yourself. Just pathetic.
>>727886876Yeah, I played 4k hours and got to the point where it was giving me this horrible feeling because I wanted to stop playing but couldn’t help but launch the game every morning I didn’t even enjoy playing it for months leading up to quitting but I kept playing out of habit
>>727888958only rts games and fighting games have the same skill ceiling as dota, and they have their own problems. the barrier of entry keeps me out. you have to spend your whole life playing games like this to be good at them.
>>727887118Based Old Man
>>727890586>got to the point where it was giving me this horrible feeling because I wanted to stop playing but couldn’t help but launch the game every morningThat's not a Dota 2 problem and it's a life problem. Like, I'm sure people would play video games less if they were rich and could do anything they want. If you're not rich, then you just do anything you can, like play Dota.
anyone remember back when dota used to be considered "easy" and pro dota players were all the people who weren't quite good enough to make it in pro starcraft/wc3 ladder?it really says a lot about the modern state of gaming that dota is considered an uber high skill difficult game.
>>727886876no
>>727890821>anyone remember back when dota used to be considered "easy" and pro dota players were all the people who weren't quite good enough to make it in pro starcraft/wc3 ladder?no because this was always seething rtsfag cope
>>727890821>anyone remember back when dota used to be considered "easy"No, I don't remember that. The only people who said Dota was easy back in the day were RTS players. It's actually a good thing they held that opinion, because Dota 2 got more complex every single year until it became what it is now. >wards>smoke>wisdom shrine>healing lotus>talents>facets>customisable neutral itemIt's like they kept making the game harder because the devs wanted it to be the hardest game.
>>727886876No, it was fun. I still remember landing a blink earthshaker 5 man ultimate to start and end a teamfight. I probably won't play again but the memories are good.
i don't regret it, it was a lot of fun. i think it taught me a lot of skills inside and outside of video games honestly.
7500 hours, 90% of it from 2013-2016ishI loved it, prob the best game I ever played, got me through hard times. However, after 2016 idk what happend but I lost all my skill at the game and became a shitter after being in the top 1%
>>727886876I wish i went full autist, started playing it since i was 8, i could've been a pro. But i decided to have a normalfag childhood
>yoink mids rune and he babyrages and destroys his items>vs him next game and he's locked in because he's still seething about me stealing his rune>rage quits when we win a big teamfight and his team wants to wait out the abandon because he was being a dick to them toothis is the reason I play dota, to make other people seethe and rage
>>727891368normalfag childhoods are better than being an esports player tho
>>727891421>normalfag childhoods are better than being an esports player thoThat's not true. It's only true if you're not one of the best teams. I used to watch Team Spirit vlogs and their life was really good. >fly to another country>stay in a nice hotel>all they do is play Dota when they're not going to a restaurant or some shitHow is that not a good life?
>>727891513I watch Dota 2 content other than matches and their life is really interesting. It's not boring at all.https://youtu.be/2XimYRsUN4k?si=ylPrZ6RxvZcLfV7cThe pros get to travel and they're not just grinding.
>>72788687610k+ hours hereEverytime i try playing and i see the entire team and enemy team is full of autists and most likely actual subhumans, yeahOn the other hand i guess im thankful to dota for letting me know retarded can humans be.
>>727892275>i guess im thankful to dota for letting me know retarded can humans be.Does that mean you're posting on 4chan from your mansion?
it's okay. it taught me about how support as a role is basically understanding how you can have a terrible game and still winning is still fun.
>>727886876Not really. I started it in high school, while I was shit, I met a ton of people from my school and other schools in town since it was HUGE in my country. As an introvert with teenage insecurities, I wasn't really the first person people would befriend. But once we play a few games together and I loosened up a bit people saw that I was an okay guy and befriended me. The game itself while super frustrating, mainly because of the abusing no life russians in the EU servers where I play, is really good. I feel genuine fulfilment when I rank up and make cool plays. I haven't even played that much of it, I started in 2012 with the beta and now 13 years later I have 2,6k hours. I think that's the lowest of all my friends and people I know IRL that have played beyond trying it out for like 20 hours, however most of those people have quit and I consistently play it. I play like 3 matches every few days. Maybe that's why I still like the game.
>>727892425No anon, if you think you have seen retards in other games or in real life you have no idea what you would find in dotaI've played it for years and im sure people aren't subhumans when they start playing, the game somehow turn people into subhumans
>>727892869I played Dota all my life, so you don't need to tell me about Dota: >>727887439I'm asking you in what way are you better than anyone else?
>>727889726it was 30 mins
>>727893072It took longer than 30 mins for you to reply, so the penalty is gone now. Let's hope you didn't get Low Prio, because LP sucks.
I never got bitten by mobas until deadlock, and I can feel the pull getting too me. I worry I will become one of those guys with 5k dota hours but for deadlock
>>727893436>I worry I will become one of those guys with 5k dota hours but for deadlockYou're worried about that, are you? What about 5k hours on 4chan? That's what people do without realising. If you're worried about 5k hours in a game, think about what you could have done instead, and it's nothing.
>>727893436time spent enjoying is not time wasted.
>>727887439They also don't realize the game is insanely replayable. For someone to make a claim like that I would imagine they don't play multiplayer at all.
>>727893754>They also don't realize the game is insanely replayable.Yeah, it's no different to someone who plays Chess all their lives or plays Poker all their lives. >For someone to make a claim like that I would imagine they don't play multiplayer at all. It's just a stupid person. Like I said, those people will spend my Dota play time at work, or on 4chan, and they think they're superior for some reason. Someone who spends 10k hours in a game can at least talk about the game. What do normalfags have to talk about? I actually look in normalnigger threads to see what they talk about>i learned the guitar recently and then i talked to some girlLike, what the fuck. Obviously, I don't stay. I filtered that garbage thread. It was the one with a musical keyboard in the OP. So fucking boring.
2.5k hoursleft because the new patches were getting boring and it feels like all the soul's been sucked out just by looking at whatever the fuck they're doing to TII don't regret it. I probably would if I continued playing it
>>727888958I shifted away from dota a couple times to play various games. RTS 1v1, fighting games. They're fun in their own way but dota just has....something to it that makes it special even with the shit team coordination and retards raging over the littlest things.I think its the replayability and unique situations that pop up with all the different team possibilities. Not that it doesnt exist in other games, fighting game matchups and rts matchups are interesting. But dota just has it in spades. But sometimes the negative aspects just make me chuck the game but i always come back.
I challenge any faggot ITT to prove they have more hours on this shit game than meI WON
>>727895421I played the game longer than you, but what proof is there that it's even your screenshot?
10k hours. I stopped playing literally one win away from hitting immortal. It was a lot of fun up until the last couple of years when they started reworking heroes like techies and tinker. I feel like a lot of play styles have become homogenized and none of the heroes really stand out anymore so games feel less varied nowadays. So I guess I enjoyed the first 9k hours and hated the last 1k. It was also gay as fuck that they stopped doing fun custom games, multiplayer ones to grind I mean like the Battle Royale mode that was peak.if they ever brought back those fun pitch changing voice lines like the aghanims ones id go back. I loved spamming those lines
>>727895506>can't provide a screenshot so instead questions mineKEK @ your tranny "tactics" just post you're screenshot or stfu retard nigger with 1k MMR
>>727893436deadlock is too draining for me. moment to moment deadlock is more intense than dota but the all the movement options and navigating 3d space is just 2 hard for me.Ive still got 300 hours but ill be an eternal shitter. Im a shitter at dota 2 but it can be comfy, larger playerbase means more shitters to play against. I think deadlock will always be niche just because of how hardcore it is.
>>727895659I'm actually the only person in this thread who posted a screenshot, and it also has the timestamp in the filename. I'm filtering this thread now, and you can either camp it like a faggot, or enter any other thread on the board for a 90% that I have it filtered. Enjoy the thread, shitskin. You're a sub-human, by the way. You entered this thread because I legitimately have everything filtered.
Little things about dota i like:>tips going from being a way to compliment a play to becoming the ultimate insult>slacks voicelines>beating "that guy" that talked shit on your team last game and shutting his ass up for good>those 60+ minute comebacks>high 5's>those stupid killstreak santa hats/snowballs any stupid cosmetic shit they do for a seasonThere's just sovl in the multiplayer experience.
>>727895760KEK check out this troon crashing out because xis 11.3k hours wasted in dota can't even buy xim a free online brag on a mongolian basket weaving forum lmaoooo
>>727896016>slacks voicelineswhat a stupid retard holy shit back to league of babs son
>>727896210WOO WOO GOD GAMER ALERT
>>727896016I was going to reply to you positively until you mentioned slacks, kys.
>>727896371haha! so funny anon! Reddit will love this interaction! :)
>>727886876No, I had fun
>>727888958this is the way
>>727895667 Yeah man, Deadlock kinda feels like trying to fly a jet while juggling at times. The verticality and jetpacks are cool in theory but they melt my ancient brain in the middle of a fight. Reminds me of when I tried Quake Champions and died to light-speed bunnyhoppers named xXScr1mbleD_XeggsXx with 1800 dpi.I keep coming back to Dota too. It's like an abusive ex in a funhouse mirror. Everyone sucks, including me, but at least it's familiar. In Deadlock, I just stare at my minimap confused, wondering where the objective went and why I'm being shot from 6 angles. Great game, but yeah, niche for sure.
>>727895667Deadlock shmoovement is pretty simple though. Beyond dash jumping and wall bouncing there's not much you NEED to know, corner boosts have been nerfed for example
>>727886876Do you regret the ridiculous time you've sunk into the games you enjoy?
>>727897162its easy just manage your stamina while keeping track of a teamfight, item and skill cd's whilst also aiming your skills.Schmoovement isnt difficult in isolation but on top of everything else its insane
>>727888958I wouldn't recommend fighting games to my worst enemy. I had a better time learning to control my emotions with MOBAs than fighters because at least I can accept that my teammates are shit and out of my control and getting fed and terrorizing the lobby is the greatest rush in video games. If I lose in a fighting game it's my fault and all I get is a creeping sense of inadequacy. And if I win all I feel is that my opponent was dogshit to lose to my cheap tactics and the sense of accomplishment is fleeting.
>>727897856games can just be a bit of fun, anon. you dont have to tie your self worth to your performance.
