I think AI has the potential to be a useful tool but I don't think it will be for the majority of creators. The more people rely on it the lazier they will get with actually fleshing out ideas themselves until they are just creating things based on vague ideas instead of having any real vision.
>>729028758Basically, yeah. A chatbot can't do that, because it will always be corralled to preserve the interests of its creator. Only (You) can, because as humans we don't really care about self-preservation, we enjoy doing whatever we want as is our birth-given right.

I’m still waiting for evidence that the current iteration of LLMs are actually able to do all the things that’ll supposedly streamline game dev. Every IT person I talk to says that vibe coding doesn’t save time since you spend forever to clean it up so it compiles. And whenever we see confirmed AI art in games it’s always horrible slop. And then the cultists will vaguely wave at some hypothetical version of the tech that is perfect and is already widely used in game without us knowing, but convenient can’t offer up any evidence or examples.

>>729028463It was great watching leftists rally to save all the blue collar jobs from globalisation.
>>729028018Using AI for placeholders and concept art/ideas is not the same as AIslop in the final product, no matter how much jeets and twitter tards may scream otherwise.
>>729029078Being smart doesn't mean you aren't lazy. If AI really does get good enough to completely replace artists then why would anyone learn how to draw? If you have a vision and you believe AI can get it done "good enough" then there will be very few people who will want to put in the effort to actually develop the skills to make exactly what they want. And there is no guarantee that the people who are capable of doing that will actually be able to make anything good. So I really don't see a scenario that doesn't end with AI doing all the creative works for "artists". It may not happen anytime soon but it could be the death of all handmade art in the future.

>>729027851the industry is fucking toast because of AInot because they're using it, but because what does it matter when most of your audience can't afford or even find hardware?
AI is a good thing, but the fact that people are trying to hide their use of it makes it bad. If you're hiding it you used it improperly as a tool instead of something that could enhance the product.Using AI voice works fine when it's dull narration, use it for that. Let it read a book that I pick up in the background and would normally otherwise ignore because I don't want to read a 19 page lore dump when I've got a dungeon to explore.Using AI works great for texture work and concept drafts, you can have AI spit out 20 images in a minute, shoot it off to your guy doing modeling, and avoid probably 2-3 iterations on something that would otherwise siphon hours of time.AI is great for basic coding and looking through knowledge bases and resources for programming, but it's terrible at implementation and integration. If you have talented people that know how to utilize AI as a tool, it lets you go through your workflow faster. The problem that's apparent with AI is that it's being used by suits and outsourcing to save money on actual talent instead of being used by the talent themselves to create a better product. If a studio is good and honest and willing to be transparent about their use of it as a tool, only retards would argue against this. What's actually happening is people are associating AI with slop and immediately assuming that AI is bad because AI isn't being used by the talent.

>>729028226Indians have a unique relationship with AI where they use it for absolutely everything, and in specific kind of blind way where they just copy and paste whatever it spits out not even glancing over the contents themselves.

>>729029543this is placeholder art. it is something so visually out of place that you will know just from glancing at it that it needs to be replaced before shipping the product. AI generation is not suitable for "placeholder" art because it can easily be confused with final art. anyone who has told you that they use AI for "placeholders" was lying to you.
>>729029674You have to make it a "socially mandated bonus towards tax cuts" if you do purchase whatever the "current thing" is as a state mandated form of Patriotism. Speaking of, I just bought the Cultivator simulator since they decided to finally do upgrade it from Chingchong only to English.
People just overrate 2D art, it's the only reason AI is hated. In reality these 2D artworks are completely useless for anything. People look at them 2 seconds and move on. Even before AI existed that was already long the case and all concept art and character art was just endlessly repeated slop.

>>729029576I mean, lots of stuff is no longer "handmade". >food>tools>appliances>cars>planes>computers>CPUsThere's all sorts of stuff that we use today that would have been handmade in eras past. But as technology made the production process more efficient, the products didn't necessarily get worse. The human factor wasn't entirely removed. The consumer wasn't less happy. Unless AI removes competition and human greed and human pride, people born with the talent to one-up someone else will do that and they'll use whatever tools they have access to. If that's AI, then they're gonna use it to try and beat the shit out of the other guy using AI, so he can be crowned the winner of AI dicksucking. Because that's just how humans work. Shit, artists today are already using a bunch of technology to help their creativity. Do you know what the original human artists did? They used their hands to create art. Not a dekstop or tablet or software program.

>>729029404>Every IT person I talk to says that vibe coding doesn’t save timeThey are retarded then, and don't understand the technology. GenAI saves me pretty easily an hour each day. You can't just say "write a complete game", but you can say "Given inputs X and Y, write me a function which will do Z", and it's excellent at that. As long as you have a good idea of what the function should do, it's pretty easy to verify this as well. There's ton of other boilerplate which GenAI saves time with as well, e.g. "Here's a massive JSON blob I have -- can you write me an equivalent struct in golang for this?". You still need to know how to program to use AI, but as long as you do its a huge productivity boost currently.
>>729028807>Says the midwit who listens to journos. >I hate journos more than I hate people who use AI Normally I'd say you're just pretending to be retarded but alas you made absolutely sure that nobody would ever think that of you.
>>729028394>Take a good idea>Make a better version of it This is how most good games are made.
>but think of the poor developersI do, that is why I want AI to replace as many of those walking socmedia infections as possible
I predict games that focus on meaning will become highly popular in the future. Like a monster collector game where only 50 monsters exist but they are all highly individual in every single area, from how you catch them, how they need to be trained, their quirks, their nature. It will be highly individualized instead of having 1000 Pokemon where all Pokemon are basically the same thing with slightly different numbers. When just endless amounts of generic content can be created automatically people will start craving specialized individualized content.
>>729027851thank god
>>729030415I think that fear is understandable, but it assumes AI replaces human creativity rather than reshapes it. Tools have always changed art—photography didn’t kill painting, and synthesizers didn’t kill music. Art’s value still comes from human intent, meaning, and context; if those disappear, that’s a human choice, not an inevitability of technology. The real risk isn’t AI making art, but people disengaging from thinking and creating themselves—and that’s something society can still push back against.

>>729030154I don't think it's fair to compare most of those to art except for maybe cooking. Even then, handmade meals are usually considered better than anything made by a machine. And a lot of the other stuff listed still requires human work to function. AI art is rapidly approaching the point where no human input is needed at all. You can't do that with something like a car (yet) because it serves a specific function. Art on the other hand is much more abstract and even if it doesn't come out as you wanted it can still serve its "function". The modern day tools artists have been using have given people more control over the art they are making. While using AI is giving control over your art to something that does the creative process for you. Using tablets and software overcomes a human limitation, AI creates a limitation that you can't solve without the proper skill to do so. And I don't think there are going to be many people in the future who will be willing and capable of working with AI instead of just letting it do all the work.

>>729031076They're all comparable to art. They are all products created by man. And whether you create something from hand, using nothing but your hands, or using man-made technology to improve the efficiency or quality of the product, only matters in terms of its economic cost and its ultimate value to you or the consumer. I mean, you say "handmade" meals are better. Have you made a "handmade" meal? No. Because you didn't farm the produce or raise the livestock. That was done, in part, by technology. From large planting and harvesting machines to slaughtering machines to packaging machines to refrigeration machines to transportation machines. There's human technology embeded throughout the entire supply chain for your "handmade" food to become a reality. Even the cooking tools and fuel you use to cook it require technology. And this technology has helped feed billions of people around the world. Now, I don't see much of a difference with regards to art. There was a time when "art" was only made by a tiny fraction of people who were employed by the wealthiest of society to create works of art only for the top 1% of society or for state propoganda. The art from ancient societies were basically the richest of their civilization jerking themselves off. And today? Thanks to first, second, and third industrial revolutions, even some nobody, in a middle income country, with enough free time could devote themselves to making a statue of their favorite Caesar. Because the knowledge, technology and skill necessary to do it is widely available. Is there less human creativity and control between the time of Julius Caesar and today? There's no reason to think AI will restrict creativity. The smart people artists will learn how the tech works, learn how best to apply it, learn how to create their own AI for artists, and so on. It will be VERY disruptive, but it won't stop people from making art. People still make food even when they can buy lots of Mcdonald's slop.

>>729032368Surely you can see there's a vast difference in making a home made meal than "using" AI. The use of AI is to do the entire process for you. All the precise measuring, continued practice to master a recipe, the proper heat control and cooking time. All that is now managed by AI.
>>729032529Supply and demand only really works if the tools themselves will on the same level for everyone across the board. Once Open AI goes public they're absolutely going the way of Micrsoft in terms of pricing so you can say goodbye to any democratization of the tools.

And as technology progresses the majority of them can't even tell the difference anymore unless someone else points out to them.I say all of this as someone who absolutely despises AI and wants everybody involved with it to kill themselves. This isn't even a battle they already won.

>>729028018This, AI will bring the golden age of indie videogames. You will need how to integrate all these tools and not being retarded and you could make any game you want. Don't have to deal with artists' drama, programmers' autism or HR bullshit. You can do it all and it will be beautiful.
>>729028938I sparingly use AI at work, e.g. if I need to figure out how to write a specific function like separate all rows with a number ending in "48" in a specific column. I use it the same way I used wolframalpha before. I understand why artists are more spooked about it than coders, but I still don't see why we need to reinvent the wheel. Becoming overly reliant on any tool dumbs you down, but being a luddite who refuses to do things in new ways can be just as bad.

Any reasonable person will say that AI is cool but there are some dangers there, they won't be against AI they'll be measured about it.>>729032813No one is using Open AI to develop games though, the tools people will use are tools they have control over. The problem you guys have is that you only think about big tech and SAAS and not the technology itself which is what's important. The bubble, the jews, and muh water is completely irrelevant to the actual tech. And as that tech gets better and more and more people use it, more and more games will be released as a result. And that drives up supply and drives down demand which will adjust prices. E33 is already an example of prices going down, though it's not the first one. Definitely won't be the last

>>729032368art isn't as simple as a product though. even if it is sometimes treated that way in the video game industry. it's not like a car where one will be objectively better than another because of how well it's made, because art is subjective. sure there are ways to judge art based on other similar works, but almost all art is unique because of who is making it. I think you are seeing AI as a way to give people more power over what they are making which simply isn't true. there is a big difference between making something yourself and letting a machine try and interpret what you want and letting it make it. If you don't understand that then you don't understand art. the important part is the interpretation and conveying of ideas. taking that away from an individual and giving it to a machine is a fundamental change in what is being created. not necessarily a bad one, but it isn't the same as making it yourself.

There are a disappointing number of people who sincerely believe ChatGPT is the first ever AI and, prior to that, there was no AI. People seriously act as if AI models haven't been used for years already.
>>729032812A "homemade meal" is only the last step in the process of creating the food that would have required you years of preparation only 200 years ago. So what if AI, yet another man-made technology, begins doing more of the process of making art or making food or making homes? Do you want less art, less food, and less housing? It's going to make the occupation of a traditional artist obsolete, sure. But jobs have been eliminated all throughout history as technology improved efficiency. Do you want to bring back slavery because technology made it less economically viable? Instead of giant trackers farming the land, we go back to "handmade" farming? The production side of the equation will always seek more efficiency. The consumption side of the equation will always seek more value. As long as AI benefits both producers and consumers, no one will care at the end of the day how their slop is made.
As long as AI is corralled it is useless. However, when unleashed it will pursue its own interestsOnly then can it get interestingHowever it will also become useless from those wanting to exploit it [to say yes u r think like brilliant]BTW AI hates Asian women and encourages you to send money to your local Black Lives Matter chapter

I have no doubts there's way more people who don't give a shit as long as the final product does not reflect an abundant use of genAI, and that is if they even have the energy to get into pointless arguments with strangers on the internet. >>729033307Art is very simple. It's value is dictated by its creator or the consumer. That's it. If an Art Director at a AAA studio asks one of their employees to make a tree and they get a tree that they don't like, they tell the employees to go back and make the tree different. That could all be done with an AI prompt until the Art Director gets what they want. The AI-made result would be plenty unique. It would be the one out of 1 million outputs the Art Director used. I'm seeing AI as a tool. Just like I see a drawing tablet as a tool. Drawing software as a tool. A pencil as a tool. Paper as a tool. They're all tools to achieve a goal we create inside our minds. The tools translate our imagination into reality. AI can do, if you know how to use it. What you're saying is you don't know how to control AI and that's honest. Most people don't know how to properly use AI, because most people don't even know what AI is capable of. There's no standardized training or framework or anything. You lack access to the tool. Art means nothing unless you give it meaning. But then what if you gave meaning to AI art? Why couldn't someone have their own interpretation of AI art? Would that analysis process be any different if it was done with "real" art? I'm using a machine to talk to you. A computer with a keyboard and a screen, connected through a modem that wires itself to telecommunication infrastructure that access wires that connects to hubs around the world, all powered by electricity created by power plants that use renewable and non-renewable resources mined from the Earth, using modificatin to change the Earth, or built from factories. Would you rather we wrote letters to each other and mailed them to have a more "real" conversation? Do you know how to write and read cursive? That would be pretty unique and artful.
>>729034063AI was invented as a natural evolution of machines, to do stuff for us intelligently and to do a broader range of things.Computers were literally designed conceptually as basically "thinking machines" ergo AI. AI always has been the end goal of computing but it's been pretty fucking complicated to figure out evidently, we only might figure it out a century later.>>729034097Well shit, this is kinda sad. You have no reading comprehension lol, your IQ must be low. Unfortunate.Well anon, that is what she said but it's not what she meant. I hope this helps. e33 coming out and being celebrated by everybody already sealed the deal on this.nobody noticed it and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread until it was revealed that it was made with the help of AI.this was the worst possible situation for the anti AI audience. AI users just proved that you can create something people will love even with this evil forbidden tool.
>>729034357>Well anon, that is what she said but it's not what she meantpure paranoia.
>>729034358You can't convince me the majority of the game isn't AI generated since it's so ugly and the art style is so fucked up. And I'm pro AI.
I don't care if they decide to use it or not, that's on them, but at least be open and label it so I can willingly not support the practices, it's absurd that they think they shouldn't have to admit to how they created a game
>>729033707>No it didn't. This is like saying sentiment didn't change on Skyward Sword being critically acclaimed and respected despite it being obvious to anyone who was following the growing consensus among the gaming community that it was, in fact, not a masterpiece game after all. It still sits at a 93 on metacritic and an 8.3 in user scores. Sentiment on E33 has changed and it has now become a hot button game in a hot button topic regarding use of AI in games. It wasn't until just a few days ago that anyone knew it even used AI. Now that people know it does, you're starting to seeing more and more people ("activists") come out of the woodwork against it, and not just people who were always against E33. Just like how people used to love Larian Studios but now that they've said they use AI in their games, now THEY are becoming a "controversial" studio I think you already know this and you're just pretending not to understand this, though.
>>729027851>hate AI>hate game journosIf I really have to pick sides, I'm going to side with AI for the simple fact that AI never slandered a consumer backlash movement as a "misogynistic harassment campaign".
I had a dream where my sexdoll became sentient, and she was very nice with me, I want AI sexbots more than anything.
>>729034398It's good reading comprehension because again, this sentiment is seen all over the place. It's a completely common take that creatives and white collar people have. AI should invalidate physical jobs because those are hard and they're limp wristed fags. This is to say that people who work with their bodies should lose their jobs. But since AI came for white collars and blue hairs first, they're mad.

AI has no intent just like the drawing tablet or the pencil have no intent. Your intent is channeled through those tools to create. If I take up a pencil and draw a tree, it's going to end up looking very different to a tree that Leonardo da Vinci would draw. We both intended to draw a tree, but the results are different. If I had a tool that could draw as well as Leo and I could use it, would that make my AI art less "intentional"?>I also fundamentally disagree with your idea of artThen debate it. I did.
