Fame degraded Sanderson's ability to write which was already breaching YA novel-tier to begin with. I don't mean that in a contrarian-hipster way, I mean that the impact of his explosive fame has affected on how he approaches and engages with his writing.
It seems even Sanderson has stopped writing shit at a fast pace. Who is left? I enjoyed The Devils from Abercrombie, but I'm guessing it'll be at least a year before there's a sequel. I've lost all hope for Doors of Stone and Winds of Winter. I expect Thorn of Emberlain to also never release, but I guess Scott Lynch recently released a short Locke Lamora story so I'll have to check it out.

Prydain's for kids, but it was written in the 60s so honestly competes with a lot of modern adult literature and I feel like it gets forgotten a lot, but I still like it. Black Cauldron could have been a really cool movie.

Also The Faithful and the Fallen by John Gwynne.Second Apocalypse is one of the bleakest stories i've ever read in recent memory, but I thought its writing and world was incredible.Faithful and Fallen is more 'generic' but it's a solid mix of large scale battles and character stuff. As somone who reads a lot of slop, I thought it was on the higher end of "boilerplate fantasy" and there were plenty of moments I thought were genuinely cool, emotional or great payoffs.
