you'll get the odd contrarian but it's hard to argue anything rivaled the scale of what they managed with strive. i mean, it was their explicit intent to not just expand the market (increasing merchandising opportunities, adding an 'anyone can climb' mode through celestial, toning back overt sexualization so the game could be broadcast on espn), but crucially to reduce the advantage that returning or more technical players had (shortening combos and reducing 'character grime', gutting almost every multi-body character and projectile play, reducing pressures in traditional 'i fucked up' situations like getting cornered or knocked down)they shifted the market and unfortunately what came to replace the people they lost was a more terminal type of nerd. it's hard to look at gg, really anyone playing gg, and still think its cool.

That old school hard rock anime ova style that it was going for got lost immediately when they had to start making the more shonen style blazblue. Which also sold well if I remember correctly.When Xrd came around it was still kind of the same, but the shonen stylings worked it's way in which characters like bedman and potemkin's redesign.
