>>731455798Yes.James also didn't kill Mary out of frustration. She literally tells him to do it.All the Cult shit is also true. Mary's cancer is her being poisoned with White Claudia.
>>731455918The actress playing Mary/Maria is the only positive honestly. Some of her deliveries sound 1:1 with the original game. Shame Maria is in the movie for like 15 minutes total.
>>731455723I read an article about that today, according to him, he wanted the movie to feels like his interpretation of the game back when he played it.he talked to people who worked on the original game, who told him many things that fans believed were not truth, but that everyone have their own interpretation of it's story. He said he didn't wanted for it to be too much 1/1, because it would simply be a worse version of the same story. instead he pushed his original interpretation he had 25 years ago.
>>731455723He's not a good director. The first one is overrated.
>>731456012Well his version is far worse than the original story and doesn't even make sense in its own context.i.e. James not killing Mary for personal reasons instantly destroys his connection to Pyramid Head. Which wouldn't be a big deal except they constantly show James as Pyramid Head.
>>731456012yeah, this would be the only proper way to translate sh2 into film. to bad its executed horribly tho
The first trailer for the movie already showed that it would be terrible juvenile shit. The only way to make a proper SH movie would be to have hired david lynch or someone as crazy as him in order to make a truly uncomfortable, alienating movie just like the games are. But the movies this guy is capable of doing are too tame.
>>731456012Directors that haven't made acclaimed works need to know their fucking place before they attempt shit like this. Put the adaptation in the bag unless you have the chops.
They are probably going to adapt silent hill 2 again in 10 years as a TV show or another thing anyway, everyone want to do silent hill 2. maybe they will do a theater play next.which be funny because the guy who played James in the remake is a theater actor.
>>731456282killing a loved one because they asked you to do it while literally withering away from some incurable disease doesn't mean you won't feel guilt or the desire to self punish once the deed is done, people are vastly more complex than that over the death of loved onesAlso doesn't Mary even tells James it's fine in the game eventually, that she understands why he did it
>>731456319>>731456593It's annoying because it's not like it's devoid of good points, there's some talented people there and some care put into it, but it's too clumsy, confusing and full of strange choices. they would need someone with a clearer direction. and a lot more budget. They need to find a bigger director. but is there any who has expressed interest in adapting silent hill 2? maybe it would work better as a TV show.
This is getting horrible reviews and I'm just happy that this LE EPIC KONAMI REVIVAL!!!!!!!!!! keeps being shit and failing.
>>731456795Pyramid Head is a symbol of wrath and a desire for punishment. Even in this movie that's what he symbolizes.James (in the movie) is right to feel guilty over what he did but he is never shown to be a violent or wrathful figure. He didn't kill Mary in a violent, hateful action because he was sick of her ruining his life. He did it out of love because she asked him to.It just doesn't make any sense to change why James did it while keeping other parts of the plot the same.
>>731457037F is great. Better than 2,3&4

>>731457121its funny that this chick got cast as laura twice independentlyshe was under remake NDA when she got cast for the movie, so both castings had nothing to do with each other
Why even bother with a SH2 movie when it's just a lazy copy-paste of Lost Highway?
>>731457121>>731457351The movie version of Laura has basically nothing in common with the game version of Laura. Doesn't even call James a fart face.
>>731457343because they accepted to help, but the movie itself actually was announced before. in 2020. without any trailers.Konami heard of that and it ended up with them showing the movie teaser. as a gesture of good faith.
>>731447651how do you even fuck it up this bad
Why not just follow the game script 1:1?
>>731457397While I disagree that SH2 is "just" that, there is a major problem with making movies of games that are basically just pastiches of movies but with gameplay.
>>731457348the director said he had no played the remake at all when making the movie, so it's only using the original gamethe only reference to the remake is the mirror scene which reference the remake first trailer.

>>731457130Unfortunately this, unless they have connections, rare are the people in the cinema industry who has any care in video games.maybe it will change in the future, but SH2 is already 25 years old.Personally I think a TV show adaptation would work better for silent hill 2. might be easier to find a director too since they are a bit more open.
>>731457580Bioshock has a shitty story on its own and says basically nothing about objectivism. Other than the cool setting it would be a disaster as a movie.
>>731457550Yamaoka did the music for the remake as well as the new movie. I just find it weird he did "definitive" versions of the songs for the Remake and then went back to the original for the movie.
>>731456795>Also doesn't Mary even tells James it's fine in the game eventually, that she understands why he did itdepends on the ending you get.>>731456990it feels like they miss the ball on very basic things. like for a "horror" film it's really devoid of tension or stakes because James is constantly passing out or flashing back any time they write him into a situation and can't figure out how to end a scene. the hour or so mark when he gets to Brookhaven and we're suddenly stuck in constant flashbacks, flash forwards etc get very silly and obnoxious.>>731457037SH2R did fine and SHf was met with critical acclaim, SHf alone sold more than any other mainline entry.

>>731457698Good goy.
>>731457690The creation and downfall of Rapture is an interesting story you could make a tv series out of. I think adapting the game would be a mistake tho. It's a twist that only really works in a video game medium because it uses the meta of video game mechanics against you.
>>731457121
What if Konami does a SH2 anime instead of a regular TV show. could it work? Could SH2 work as an anime? how many episodes would it need?
>>731457074the way they set it up really screwed that element of it up. it only works when it's something he does in a fit of passion after years of dealing with Mary's illness. when he just shows up out of the blue randomly and she's like "kill me" and he's like "k lol" it just lacks any of the same weight or resonance. i feel like they wanted this mystery over Mary's past and their relationship which really undermines the other elements, the only mystery you need is: "Is Mary really waiting for James?" and when you start piling on other shit like all the Jacob's Ladder "ooh is James crazy and all of this is fake?" shit it totally wrecks the central narrative of the film. in the game they only play with this in Brookhaven where you find the memos that make you think maybe James is a patient there, but it's only done to create doubt in the player's mind when you get to the Prison/Labyrinth and reality literally goes off the fucking rails and you're meant to question the voracity of everything you're seeing. is the town doing this, is James really just totally mental, is my game bugged and i'm not even supposed to be seeing this, etc. - in a film it doesn't really do anything except slow down the plot and make it lose focus.
>Heaven's Night is no longer a strip club that James used to sneak off to during the night and a big reason why he symbolized the perfect version of Mary as a stripper>Now it's a random concert hall that everyone goes to and James took Mary on a date toWhat the fuck were they thinking

>>731457879Horror and anime don't usually mix very well imho
>>731457879It could work as a 6 episode live action tv show. You just need a non-hack director/writer to do it.Hell I would just hire the actors who did SH2R because they seem to get it. Especially Luke Roberts.

>>731457542i don't think the SH games are just that either, the base concept for the Otherworld and all that is something Keiichiro Toyama has imparted into his other works. he was more inspired by horror novels and the works of Stephen King than movies. SH2 obviously has some inspiration from Lost Highway and Jacob's Ladder but it stands on its own, it's simply reusing the archetypes that those films used and reinterpreting them. this movie fails because it doesn't understand that, it's reinterpreting reinterpretations instead of first understanding the purpose of these characters.>>731457879you'd need stylized hand drawn animation, none of that digital calarts slop Netflix keeps shitting out>>731457931James never sneaked off to Heaven's Night in the first place, what are you on about? he didn't start drinking until Mary got sick and she was never at Silent Hill during the worse parts of her illness, it's part of why he idealizes the hotel and Silent Hill because it was one of the last times they were together while she was still healthy enough to be like her old self. >>731457961it's more like Jacob's Ladder than it is Lynch, there's nothing really Lynchian to it, there's nothing esoteric or primal that hits you in some deep part of your brain that makes you think and wonder. it's honestly a bit boring.

>>731457348The movie was technically announced a while before the remake (if I recall, Gans just outright stated he was making it around 2020 or 2021 in a French interview, a while before the SH2R announcement). The remake and film basically have nothing to do with each other. The film is headed by a separate production company who likely have a small relationship with Konami, but not a significant one- similar to how Capcom and Constantine are aware of the other company's efforts with Resident Evil, but the games don't really influence the film productions and vice versa (in regards to unreleased materials). Only exception to that was Capcom telling Netflix to do a Wesker resurrection storyline for their TV show.
>>731458242my thing is why did Eddie get cut for all this cult stuff when the original game had nothing to do with the cult? we did get more history on them but the cult had nothing to do with Mary's illness or any of the characters coming to Silent Hill. Eddie is one of 6 characters in the original game so you'd think that one of the original characters would have more going for him, it's basically a glorified cameo. same with Angela, i don't think she would even be in the movie if not for how iconic the mirror scene and Abstract Daddy are.>>731458261it's slightly worse>>731458312no they don't, Gans said that this is a new story with its own continuity, it has nothing to do with his first film or Revelations.>>731458356i didn't say it was as good, just that Gans obviously took more from Jacob's Ladder than anything Lynchian for this adaptation.
>>731458580it's not the same level of badRev is bad because it genuinely doesn't care about the source material and goes completely off the rail. This one is bad because the direction isn't clear enough, it's all over the place, even if the people behind it cared, it's like they got lost in their own work and the result was a confusing mess.
>>731457879>horror>animeThere has literally never been a good horror anime. A medium with over 60 years of history and the closest its ever gotten to horror was 'Higurashi', which is about as fear inducing as a Tarantino film.
>>731457130>>731457659Del Toro would probably do it if a good script came along. Also are we forgetting Blomkamp's Halo and him making Gran Turismo? Abrams wanted to do something with Valve. John Carpenter wants to make a Dead Space movie. John Wick guy is doing Ghosts of Tsushima.
>>731458707It's a different cult? Different continuity? lmfaowhat the fuck is going onis Gans a secret retard or what
>>731458772Del Toro would outright refuse to work with a Konami franchise even if he was given full control. He was mocking them just before the revival reveal. There's probably some people out there, but it be hard to find.
>>731458772>Del Toro would probably do it if a good script came along.I don't think he would, he seemed pretty pissed about the Konami situation already back when Silent Hills was canned alongside Kojima.
>>731458973I'm not even sure if he cares about Silent Hill, he said he did at the time with Kojima, but later he did some list of all his favorite games, and there was no silent hill in it.
If you could rope him in a bit, I think Mike Flanagan could actually do a good job at it. He's one of the only modern horror directors who thinks about characters first and spooks second. But he would certainly cast his wife as a Mary/Maria so you gotta get over that.
Hopefully Townfall will make things a bit better for the franchise, after their recent success it be a shame if they became mediocre again until the next remake. Isn't it supposed to release this year?
So I'm right in thinking all the therapist stuff was reshoots, right?
>>731458797with how much exposition and flashbacks the movie had i don't think he wanted to have to link it to his other movie and/or retcon Revelations on top of that because then he'd have to explain how Mary's family was related to the cult from the first movie so there would have been even MORE exposition and backstory. doing a new continuity means he can do a new cult. he also wants the series to be an anthology series like the Twilight Zone so he wants the town to be a therapist town that helps people get over it when they kill someone and forget about it.>>731458916>>731458973it seems like things are less tense between Konami and Kojima, probably because the old guard who fired him and did all the dumb mobile game moves got fired and replaced by the new people who decided the company needs to get back in gaming.

(presumably done by the team that did Short Message)
>>731459190i doubt it, her interactions with James seem to largely be based on the director of Brookhaven hospital and his memos. https://www.silenthillmemories.net/sh2/memos_en.htm#doctors_journalthe original game lightly implies that maybe James is just imagining everything and trapped in a mental hospital, but it's not a serious conclusion that anyone is expected to draw, it's just to create a sense of doubt in the player and mess with you.>>731459314>Unannounced Japanese Project? That's why all the BTS videos for Short Message were recorded in 2022.It's a very odd situation, nobody involved has commented on it but it is incredibly obvious that the game got delayed for seemingly no reason.
>>731459431the game was supposed to be small but apparently it's now AAA level and they recruited a shitload of people.
>>731459585>He hasn't really mentioned being on any new projects since then.Konami announced he was working on a new mainline entry that was being developed internally at Konami but that's all we know about it, we haven't heard anything about it since the first transmission other than it exists.
>>731459431TSM team won't be able to return entirely, some will but not all. because a lot of the team were ex Kojima Production people. And these guys are now back on Metal Gear.It probably will be mostly new people, randomy Konami people, and maybe some rare Silent Team members who still are at Konami.
Konami needs to reign in Silent Hill again and develop them in house like Capcom does with RE. The inconsistency from outsourcing will be their downfall. For every Silent Hill 2 Remake/SHf you get an Ascension and Return to Silent Hill.
>>731459431TSM team is working on the new Ito project last i heard
>>731459531This is very true
>>731459776>Konami needs to reign in Silent Hill again and develop them in house like Capcom does with RE.SH was basically never developed in house. KCET was just the leftovers from other productions and had essentially no real oversight from Konami, and current Konami isn't equipped to back consistent productions for a franchise like SH.Additionally, Konami doesn't actually know what people want from SH- speaking as a capitalist purely, they've actually course corrected fairly well. SH2R and SHf are the most well received SH games since the originals, and the highest selling overall.
>>731459485Could be fun. Maybe something black plague related or Holy War stuff. South America hopefully they lean into the Aztecs and blood sacrifices stuff maybe with some ex cartel guy with PTSD or something.

>>731459776i feel like a lot of it is making up for the 10+ years the franchise was on ice and Konami wasn't making any new games. because it was pretty crazy that the movie was achieving cult status and youtube essay culture was kicking off getting people into the series and Konami refused to do anything with it. my hope is that with how long video game development takes they'll eventually naturally slow their roll, i'd prefer 1 new game every 1-3 years rather than multiple projects every single year.>>731460042i could see some of the green screen and digital painting in of things like the maze at the park or the hospital but they weren't too distracting, overall i thought it looked fine>>731460060i really hope they don't fuck it up like they did the remake in terms of bloating it, SH1 is such a tight experience. i'm hoping they let us play as Cybil and give her some areas rather than bloating out Harry's, the novelization goes to her POV a few times which is pretty cool.>>731460127i feel like the UK would be such a strong setting with the Blitz, the London Underground, you have centuries of blood and folklore you could draw on. imagine going deeper into subway tunnels and you wind up in some creepy castle under London that's all decayed and rusted over.
Once you've played Silent Hill, you'll never stop wanting to beat Christophe Gans to death with your bare hands,
>Eddie's actor has a passable American accent for about 15 seconds before it starts to slip>Turns out he's IrishI guess being a Frog, Gans doesn't notice this shit.
>>731460204>i could see some of the green screen and digital painting in of things like the maze at the park or the hospital but they weren't too distracting, overall i thought it looked fineThey used the volume for a lot of it. I remember seeing early BTS footage of the Abstract Daddy room in the volume and wondered how it would translate to film. As it turns out they didn't really show much of it which was probably for the best.
Why did this have to be an adaptation of a game that already had a story that was well-done both in writing and visuals? Why not just make an original Silent Hill story? The series is basically an anthology series anyway.
>>731460204>i really hope they don't fuck it up like they did the remake in terms of bloating itthis would be my one criticism, the original never overstays its welcome and I feel like they'll pad out SH1 the same way because>modern game must be longerI get it but once you start straying from the OG which is already golden and start adding your own fluff it can drag sometimes, which i felt like the remake of 2 did.
>>731448489Mary...if you didn't want me to murder the fuck out of you, you should have given me more of that fucking cunt you bitch!!!
>>731460462I think some added content is fine, but the remake of 2 was just a bit too long. it was almost 30 hours.20 hours would be better.Luckily it seems Bloober actually listen to criticism
>Have you fucking seen a little fucking girl? Short, black hair. She just fucking turned 7 last fucking month.BLOOBER DOES IT AGAIN
>the white hanging drapes and metal everywhere are symbolic of Mary's hospital bedding/bed as a physical constraint for her and James>Gans didn't understand this so he put a giant biohazard sign on it to imply the town has been cut off physically from the outside worldNobody said anything. And then it shipped that way.If Takayoshi Sato was dead, he would be rolling in his grave.
>>731460761fuuuuuuuuuuuck fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
>>731460761Did the remake have any swearing at all?I was a Bloober hater for a long time but even I can admit the remake turned out about as good as possible without the original team being involved.
>>731460787actually it's probably because Team Silent/Masashiro Ito lifted that particular concept from other artists so they probably didn't want to plagiarize it for the movie too https://www.munchiesart.club/wrapped-art-artists/at least that's my guess, it's such a powerful visual and the only reason i could think to not include it.>>731460847yes there's some swearing, i think James says fuck a few times but it's out of surprise and not WHERE'S MY FUCKING WIFE like people thought. also Bloober was 100% babysit throughout the entire thing, Masahiro Ito supervised the project and there were some other Konami oldheads managing it. it only turned out as good as it did because it was built on the bones of the original game and they had supervision. if Bloober was asked to make a Silent Hill 5 it would not be very good.
>>731460976>actually it's probably because Team Silent/Masashiro Ito lifted that particular concept from other artists so they probably didn't want to plagiarize it for the movie tooIt's literally in the movie. They just put a biohazard sign on it to imply the government did it or something. (they mentioned earlier the water was poison or some shit)It's a case of them copying the game but not understanding why it was in the game.
>>731460976Wasn't their recent new game decent? I doubt it be bad, though yeah maybe they work better under supervision.
>>731461081it's referenced in that scene but i wouldn't say it's in the movie, it doesn't appear anywhere else when it's one of the most important recurring symbols in the game.>>731461083decent like "yeah i guess i'll check it out when it's $30 on steam" decent yeah
>Already made its budget back in China after 1 dayHow'd this even get released in China? I thought they had a no ghosts/no demons rule there?
>>731460787Every time I see Fungo's fucking face I'm reminded of the stream he did with Guy Cihi and I want to kick his teeth in.
no idea why they keep trying to adapt video games with 90 minute movies shit should have been a 8-10 episode series at least gans is a total fucking retard tho
>>731461397>i wouldn't say it's in the movieAre we talking about the same thing? The massive sheet wall is right above the tunnel in the movie>>731461434What's the deep lore here? I never seen it.
I vote Homecoming for the next movie. You can even have John Locke reprise his role.
>>731461530>a 8-10 episode seriesWhy the fuck would you want this? Every single series for at least the last decade has been unwatchable slop.
>>731461792Same thing with movies.
>>731461792if it's one hour the episode, it would be much more needed time to adapt the story.
There were so many parts of this movie that visually looked on par with a Channel Awesome film. Everyone in my theater clapped at the end. Overall I had a good time.
>>731461713Homecoming should be a TV series, to show the daily life in Shepherd's glen and the life of the founding families
>>731461792I don't want it but it makes more sense to spend 8 hours adapting a story based game than 90 minutes. Faggot.
>>73146153010 60 minute episodes of Silent Hill 2 is longer than the game. You really don't need that much time to adapt SH2 because a lot of SH2 is faffing about. If you know what you're doing you can beat the game in like 3 hours. You could do a solid 2 hour cut and not miss out anything important.Gans is just a hack director.
>>731461404the entire movie is just a delusion in James's mind so there are no ghosts or demons.>>731461536you don't even really see it there, it just comes across as more random debris. there's no intentionality behind it like how everything in the hospital is covered in sheets.
>>731461979Whatever faggot you get my point.
>>731461536>What's the deep lore here? I never seen it.He streamed SH2 with Guy Cihi(and the guy who played Eddie) and every time Guy started to talk about the game Fungo would interrupt like a fucking sperg. https://youtube.com/watch?v=PVNuEToTaZA It's a very painful watch, especially when Eddie's voice actor shows up
It's an odd film. I think that people will calm down a bit about it eventually. Feels like a hybrid of the French film Orpheus, Layers of Fear, and Silent Hill 2.Something about the film feels odd and disjointed, and I kinda wonder if they ran out of money and had to stitch together a shorter version of the film where they could complete the VFX. Eddie disappears from the movie, but I seem to recall they filmed a fight scene between him and James.Ultimately the film leans into being strange and surreal. I think the last 30 minutes is far stronger than the first hour. There's some really good imagery.>>731451792George R.R. Martin apparently liked In the Lost Lands by Paul W.S. Anderson, and told Paul that he had captured his voice as a writer better than any other director. ITLL kinda reminds me of Return to Silent Hill in that it feels like a film that lost its way during post-production and second-guessing itself and its core themes. It feels cobbled together in an awkward way, held together barely by interesting imagery and atmosphere.
>>731462116I feel the same way honestly. Like there's almost something there but it's obvious the smaller budget didn't work for it considering so much of the movie looked like a bad UE5 cutscene.
Lmao a Silent Hill 2 series would be 7 episodes of pointless flashbacks with James arriving in town in episode 8 and the series getting shitcanned before season 2 even happens.
>>731462116> kinda wonder if they ran out of money and had to stitch together a shorter version of the film where they could complete the VFX. Eddie disappears from the movie, but I seem to recall they filmed a fight scene between him and James.Wouldn't surprise me desu. The labyrinth kind of just ends. James jumps from Maria's death to the abstract daddy by teleportation and then wakes up on the shore with the hotel already burning. The movie has decent pacing up until the labyrinth and then it becomes schizophrenic.James doesn't even get a showdown with Pyramid Head.
>>731460787>Fungo beat his girlfriend, left TP to be a streamer, got hacked, and became a trucker>Ross is on year seven of making the ultimate video about... something (nobody is sure)>Fuzh has a family and still hangs out with Ross, but won't be doing TP the way he used to if it comes back>Versy broke up with Ross and moved onto full time streaming>none of the original TP game have any interest in doing videos on new SH games>Ross explicitly said that SH "isn't good for anybody" and that it's "a moment in time that has since passed"A bit of a shame, but I imagine coming back to do annual reviews on games they don't really care about would get old after awhile.
Should I go see this tonight?Everyone says it's shit but I have a morbid curiosity for trash like thisDo they use a lot of the SH2 OST at least?
With films like this, the waters are heavily muddied by source material fans crying about changes. When a horror film is original or nobody has read the book it was based on, you get a more clear-minded evaluation. People like it, people don't like it. When it's based on something semi-well-known, suddenly it's a problem. I remember reading that one of the reasons The Shining was Razzie-nominated was that the people in charge of the Razzies hated the changes the film had made from the book. So this has always been a thing.
>>731461847>>731461530SH2, the game, is about 3-5 hours long. Most of the story could effectively be told in 90 minutes. Even a movie at the longer end of 120 minutes would probably be overdoing it for a game like Silent Hill.Games are only as long as they are because they have redundant/unadaptable factors. Gameplay, reiterated scenes to add context for gameplay, puzzles that wouldn't need to exist in a film, etc.
That Jordan guy who make horror movies, he's said to be one of the rising stars, could he make a good adaptation of SH2?
>>731462567Silent Hill 2 has a bit of a problem. The story is actually an incoherent mess and James is a paper thin character. So much of the "story" of Silent Hill is people reading into shit. Videogames have a dual problem of being too long but also far too thinly sketched out narrative-wise.
>>731462448Probably for the best. Their videos are at their best when they actually care about what they're talking about (HD Collection) and at their worst when they just want to riff on the games for being garbage. (Origins, Homecoming)
>>731462883Origins was NOT garbage it was just too safe.
>>731462956I remember liking it quite a bit when I was younger.
>>731447651You let foids Jews and troons into your hobby now deal with the consequences Konami keeps letting them rape silent hill
>>731461874hate to break it to you but no one cares about the bad western games, no one at Konami is considering them in the decisions they're making>>731462396>>731462116>Eddie disappears from the movie, but I seem to recall they filmed a fight scene between him and James.i think they were pressured to keep it under 2 hours and they already had to dedicate so much time to exposition because they decided to give Mary a backstory AND add the cult to the story that there wasn't any time for more scenes of Eddie and Angela or more than the 10 minutes of the hotel we got.>>731462448either way the videos stand on their own, to this day people still get the most basic shit wrong like insisting multiple dimension theory is real
>>731462883>>731462956Origins is a genuinely good game with rough edges caused by having to be developed in about 10 months after the previous team shat the bed. It has issues, yes. The plot is wobbly because Konami forced them to use FMV cutscenes originally created for the Climax LA version. But what is interesting is that Fungo had a mental breakdown because everyone made it clear, including people like Jeremy Blaustein, that Origins was canon. So he made his dumb video series which was literally just hours of crying about how Silent Hill 2 turning the town into a therapist was hecking based but Origins confirming something every previous game stated -- that Alessa was intentionally burned by her mother -- was NOT based.
>>731447651I just got back from the kinoplex. They absolutely raped the plot of the game.>James has a therapist (a black woman) who tells him he has trauma >Eddie, Angela, and Laura are not their own characters. They're just James' manifestations>Mary tells James to kill her, yet the movie still tries to show James' guilt>the cult is shoehorned into the plot and forgotten. Also Mary is part of the cult >also, the cult is farely new >Heaven's Night isn't a sleezy bar with stripper pole>try to have the Angela sexual assault stuff with no subtly or explanation>Maria is irrelevant >despite that, the end of the movie is a Frankenstein's monster of In Water and Maria
>>731463109>You let foids Jews and troons into your hobby now deal with the consequencesThis film is made by the guy who made the first film back in the mid-00s retard.Maybe stop getting your takes on the world from twitter and actually engage with your supposed hobby.
>>731462481A lot of my enjoyment of this film was sitting there being baffled at the changes from the original game. It truly is a strange movie with a lot of strange choices. You'll probably find it entertaining for that reason if you're very familiar with SH2. I imagine someone watching this with very little knowledge of SH would find it kind of boring tho.>Do they use a lot of the SH2 OST at least? Not really.Magdalene, True and Theme of Laura are the only songs I remember playing. The rest of it is generic ambient music. Theme of Laura also plays at the most hilarious and inappropriate time possible.
>>731463130>no one at Konami is considering them in the decisions they're makingI hope you're ready for the Silent Hill 1 remake to be full of Shattered Memories-isms.
>>731462553SH2 is one of my favorite games and i didn't think it's nearly as bad as people are complaining about. i honestly think a lot of it is performative, like horror fans really want to have their Star Wars The Last Jedi moment or something so they want to pretend like Gans raped Silent Hill when it's just kind of a mediocre movie. this is nothing on the scale of the amount of rape that Luke Skywalker or Doctor Who got.>>731462956sorry but doing a prequel with manifestations and the Otherworld before any of that shit actually existed was retarded, they already showed they didn't understand Silent Hill.
>>731455723People behind us walked out halfway through kek
>>731463159The boiler explosion was an accident. Alessa being evil is dumb.Case closed.
>>731463228>James has a therapist (a black woman) who tells him he has trauma
>>731463416She calls him multiple times through out the movie to tell James that Mary is dead
>>731463228Remember in SH2 where it's debated whether Pyramid Head is sexually assaulting the mannequin?Yeah fuck that. Let's get some close ups of that jiggling SPIDER ASS
>>731463296they use the song the music box in the hotel plays after you complete the puzzle in the most odd and inappropriate place. they also use Maternal Heart from SH3 and apparently there are a few SH4 tracks snuck in.>>731463382didn't someone from Team Silent confirm the boiler explosion was just how the cult covered up when the fire to burn Alessa ran out of control and burned down some houses?>>731463416the therapist is based on the Brookhaven director's memos anyway
>>731463337The real issue is that more people know SH for the film then they do the video game, and that's really sad when the movies do a poor job of reflecting their source material past a surface level. No one would care if the film was just forgotten and had no legacy, but it having the legacy of representing SH as a whole in mainstream culture is what pisses people off.
>>731463504None of the sexual stuff works either, since movie James doesn't seem repressed sexually. In fact, he looks like Leon Kennedy. They couldn't even make Maria slutty.
>>731463519That's another thing. The misuse of the games' music is glaring. Angela's Hell is used at the very end when James goes back in time with Mary.
>>731463337I think the movie is more baffling than anything. It tries to be super close to SH2's story while changing a bunch of shit and it just doesn't work as either an adaptation or it's own thing.>>731463504I love that despite every monster looking like a shitty 360 model, the spider's ass was fat and jiggly.>>731463568>In fact, he looks like Leon Kennedy. That's what I was thinking. He looks like RE6 Leon in particular.
>>731463382>Alessa being evil is dumb.Alessa isn't evil, though.>The boiler explosion was an accident.Every single Silent Hill game says that Alessa was burned in a ritual. The cult would kidnap women and burn them. I hate to say this but Silent Hill fans are fucking retarded.>>731463519Back when he had a twitter account, the director of SH1 said that it was intentional. Every single person at Konami past, present, and future, has said that Alessa was burned as part of the ritual, the fire got out of control, and burned the house down. The cult came up with the boiler explosion cover-up and replaced Alessa with a fake corpse provided by Dr. Kaufmann. It is so incredibly straightforward.
>no matter how many games and movies they make they still can’t make a silent hill game worthy of the first 4How is this possible
>>731463568None of it makes any sense because in the movie James broke up with Mary and only came back when she was at death's door.He literally could've dated/fucked anyone without any guilt in the months/years between.Gans doesn't understand the plot of SH2.
>>731463659The series is dead. Even when they gave it back to the Japs, they fucked it up. We're never getting games as good as the first 4
I wonder if anything was changed in reshoots or post. I recall someone on 4chan saying they worked on the film, and the twist was that Maria was real, and Mary was a fantasy. There are some odd things around Maria and Mary in the film, and it makes you wonder if it's papering over a reshot twist.
they just released the OST of the movie, that was quick
>>731463645I feel like it can be assumed that the boiler explosion resulted in the ritual failing and starting the fire from the candles.
>>731463680>He literally could've dated/fucked anyone without any guilt in the months/years between.Of course he's feeling guilt. He abandoned her, and maybe if he hadn't she wouldn't have died.
>>731463680There's no ambiguity in why James killed Mary in the move, but the movie still wants to have James act like he did in the games, where he wanted to kill her because she made his life hell and he was selfish. Movie James was honoring her request, plus she was part of the cult RAN BY HER FATHER WHO WAS ALSO POISONING HER FOR SOME REASON
>>731463812He broke up with her because she's part of a cult and won't leave town with him. Not because she's sick. That's a reasonable reason to leave someone.
>>731463562if we didn't just get SH2R and SHf back to back i'd agree but Street Fighter is about to have an awful adaptation, the Fallout show is pretty embarrassing so it's not like SH is some outlier. >>731463626and Yamaoka was the composer for the movie so it's hard to tell if it was him doing this time or if maybe Gans requested those songs be used. >>731463645>I hate to say this but Silent Hill fans are fucking retarded.to be fair though, before Toyama said that, i think the point of contention was more that the game didn't directly state it, people inferred it, but people treated it as 100% settled canon. the bugged memo about the boiler explosion is what muddied the waters i think, because they went out of their way to re-add it for the European version of the game.>>731463786so the OTHER point of contention is that from what i remember the big thing was the fire went out of control and burned down a bunch of houses, right? so the entire reason the memo exists is because the cult needed to cover it up. not that there was ambiguity over their actions with Alessa. but people assume the accident was Alessa being burned, not the fire going out of control.
>>731463786No, there was no boiler explosion. How is this hard for people to understand? The ritual on Alessa involved burning her. It wasn't candles. She was selectively flame broiling the child. The whole idea is that the mother of their god has to undergo suffering. This is why the cult would kidnap random women and BURN THEM TO DEATH. They worship a SUN GOD. They are obsessed with FIRE and BURNING PEOPLE TO DEATH and the whole point of their ritual to was to BURN A CHILD.The story about a boiler is a LIE created to EXPLAIN WHY THE HOUSE BURNT DOWN. Holy shit, I cannot believe that Silent Hill fandom is so retarded they could not understand babby's first child sacrifice coverup.
>>731463923I definitely heard some SH3 and 4 music as well.
>318 is referenced throughout the movie (not 312 like in the game)>because James killed Mary at 0318>despite this it's broad daylight Is this a regional thing? Are 24 hour clocks different in other countries? It should be 1518, right?
>>731463883>He broke up with her because she's part of a cult and won't leave town with him.Sure, but if he had stayed with her, maybe he could have done something.
>>731463758The soundtrack on youtube has a bunch of tracks not actually used in the movie.https://youtu.be/xXwZSMEuFxI?list=RDxXwZSMEuFxI
>>731463993americans don't use 24 hour time usually outside of the militaryI haven't seen this dogshit but that's my guess
>>731463728i was actually wondering if they were gonna do like Clue and the film was supposed to have multiple endings and they just randomly distribute them around>>731463870he still feels guilt for killing her, even a mercy killing can be psychologically damaging compounded by his guilt for abandoning her and leaving her alone with the cult.>>731463993for some reason Gans chose to change the time, in the games it's 10 after 9, every clock is frozen at that time because it's Mary's time of death. time finally moves to 3:19 during the flashback (i think?) because it's part of him moving on and accepting what he did.
>>731464072Oh boy, another case of "Yamaoka puts together a crazy soundtrack and then only 10% of it actually gets used"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsvGWBduBOk
>>7314639933:18pm
>>731463504Pyramid Head didn't even rape the big booty spider monster. He just punched its stomach a couple times. I thought the movie was going to be about Mary dying from an abortion just from that scene. In fact, what was the point of the sexual assault stuff at all? If everything revolved around Mary in the movie, it never showed her getting raped.
>>731464181Silent Hill 4 was a special case, since clearly the game wasn't fully finished.
>>731463923>to be fair though, before Toyama said that, i think the point of contention was more that the game didn't directly state itSilent Hill 3 says it explicitly and unambiguously.>'Original self'... That was the young woman burned by her mother as a sacrifice to God... Alessa Gillespie.>Half her soul escaped in those flames and went on to live in a baby... in that girl of mine. Of ours.Literally every Konami employee who has ever been asked, and every Silent Hill game ever made has consistently stated that Alessa was burned as a sacrifice. There is absolutely zero ambiguity here. The fact Silent Hill fans tried to pretend it was ambiguous shows the depths of their utter retardation. From a Q&A with Konami from the early 2000s.>Dahlia originally thought that Alessa would follow in her own footsteps as a spiritualistic medium for the cult, but realized that the ritual would be far more likely to succeed if she used her as the surrogate mother to bring about the descent of the cult's god. And so seven years ago, Dahlia performed the technique to bring about the descent of the cult's god using Alessa in the cellar of her own house. Although it seems the cult has a place they use for rituals, Dahlia was confident that she would be able to summon the malevolent deity if Alessa was the surrogate mother; therefore, as it was not necessary to choose a location, she impulsively carried out the ritual in her own basement. The ritual process involved a great deal of fire, which consequently escalated into a conflagration. There was no boiler explosion. Alessa was being burned as part of a ritual, and the fire got out of control and burned the house down. I don't know why some Silent Hill fans are so bizarrely caught up on the idea that the boiler exploded. It did not. It was a cover story.
>>731464270not the only one, the short message soundtrack is literally longer than the game.though that game probably got issues too due to being developed during the hardest part of covid
>>731464207It's implied her dad was molesting her and that's where the abstract daddy bit comes from.I think she might have had a forced abortion as well based on the dead baby that Laura is carrying around but really the movie is so vague about all of it that it's almost headcanon tier.
>>731460153wtf, it's too cleanwhere's the grain? where's the polygon warp?
>>731464207>In fact, what was the point of the sexual assault stuff at all? If everything revolved around Mary in the movie, it never showed her getting raped.I figured it implied that she was raped by her father or some of the cult members or some shit.
>>731463974>No, there was no boiler explosion. If you look exclusively at the first game, it's fairly obviously that the idea is a boiler explosion. Even ignoring the file that says as much, the game evokes boilers often>the nightmare of the school is initiated via the boiler>the first boss is fought "inside" the alternate version of the boiler room, with a burning body in the middle of the room>in the hospital, the one room inaccessible in both the normal and alternate versions is the boiler room>instead of turning on a boiler, you turn on a generator>the final boss is fought inside a borderline copy of the boss arena from the school, just without the burning bodyAnd I have no idea what that shit under the final boss arena is, but it could be a boiler, I dunno. But the idea in the first game never really seemed to be "they lit Alessa on fire for ritual funsies", this is all just a lot of shit stapled on after Toyama left. Toyama's SH1 is very much just normal tragedies>Dahlia is a sick woman in a cult whose love for her daughter is used to (metaphorically) rape her and (literally) destroy her body>Alessa is a victim of circumstance who isn't allowed to escape>Lisa is an unwilling accomplice, abused into compliance through threats and addiction>Cybil is a well meaning person who can't actually do anything to helpEtc etcThis whole deeper lore shit is AIDS. SH3, 4, and Origins all suck.
>>731464351Apparently The Short Message was heavily altered in the last year of dev. Interesting project. It's written by the guy in charge of Silent Hill, Motoi Okamoto. And TSM's story involves a time loop, which is interesting because Silent Hill 2 remake also leans pretty hard into the time loop stuff.
I swear to God, from the trailer I seriously thought this movie was a fan film that was going to be released on youtube. That's how incredibly shit it looked. I cannot fucking believe it made it to theaters
>>731464454It looks like a porn parody
>>731464181>>731464270https://youtu.be/fVLOeQW9zqk?list=RDfVLOeQW9zqkSH4 is the coolest game that also happens to suck ass to play.
>>731464454I think it's US only.
>>731464454Yeah it reminded me of those shitty direct to dvd Dead Rising movies from a couple years back. The crazy thing was that my theater was giving out little Silent Hill postcards, so they actually seemed to spend money advertising it.
Gans and Akira are hoping to do Silent Hill 4. I’m not memeing.
>>731464454The actual movie looks marginally better than the trailer. The Apartments/Brookhaven sets actually look decent.
>>731464434I read that too, it was going to end in a very dark way, but they changed this because they wanted the game to have a good ending as it was aimed at younger players, and they thought covid was too hard on them to have a very depressing end for the game.they did some pretty heavy redesign too, the creature looked completely different. It's a flawed game, though I think people are a little too hard on it.
>>731464418Toyama said in a long deleted tweet (he deleted all his old tweets) that "It was intentional, I think" when asked if Dahlia burned Alessa on purpose. Every dev at Konami who has ever been asked said that Dahlia burned Alessa. Silent Hill 3 says it. The very old Konami FAQ says it.In fact, did you know that the only official source (that Konami FAQ) that says that the ritual took place in the basement is the same source that says that the fire was intentional?Sam Barlow was not aware of that Japanese FAQ when he wrote Origins in like 6 days on a rushed schedule. He used game guide artwork that showed the fire in an upstairs room. So people were mad about that. But also mad that he correctly wrote that Alessa was burned on purpose by Dahlia.

>>731464652>a deleted tweet said thisI look at the game. The game keeps bringing up the boiler. I take the game seriously when it has a portion of the game outright mention a boiler. I don't really give a shit what outside materials have to say either, I'm not factoring in the Play Novel and its insanity into my reading of SH1. The story of SH1 just seems to be a standard story you hear all the time about cult survivors in Japan- a mother let her daughter get raped by a cult leader. In SH1 this leads to an actual divine conception, that's the only difference. Alessa's burns are purely symbolic for the destruction of her body, inverse to how Lisa does not recognize how much she has been ruined until the end of the game when she finally begins falling apart. I choose to say it's an accidental boiler explosion because it doesn't actually matter narratively and boilers keep coming up in the game anyways. The only reason this matters is if you really give a shit about the retarded and pointless greater lore written by a bunch of guys years after the fact, whether it's Owaku, Ito, Barlow, etc., I don't care.
>>731464904The cutscene video and audio was broken by a windows update.
>>731464775Stay with me here:Yorgos Lanthimos
>>731464978That's an unrealistic dream movie.
>>731464676I love Henry because he's genuinely a weirdo and even a little creepy, but just not enough to be influenced by the town, which uses Walter instead (who's a complete wreak of a man but genuinely well written : because it's very hard to do a character who's both extremely pathetic, sad yet also super creepy and horrible)
>>731464896Gans made Crying Freeman, which is REALLY good, IMO. He also made Silent Hill, which I really like.
>>731464775There already was a SH4 movie with J Lo.
Nobody hates Silent Hill more than Silent Hill fans lol.
>>731464676if that's anything, one of the cutscene artist and also the trailer director of SH4 is now one of the main people on the supposed internal Silent Hill team, were the trailer for that game good?
>>731464896I think Brotherhood of the Wolf is decent.Silent Hill (the first movie) also had an experience writer (Roger Avery) and a good cinematographer (Dan Laustsen). Neither of which returned for Return. It also had an $80 million dollar budget vs $20 million for Return. But yeah it's hard to say what went wrong with Return exactly. Is it just a lack of budget and too much ambition? Is Gans really just a hack director?
>>731465205No silent hill fans are just not really tolerant of slop like most fans from different franchises are.
>>731465241>>731465042Those 2 films give big director for hire vibes.
even if it would have being an awesome game, I think Silent Hill by Kojima would have being a terrible Silent Hill.
>>731447651Why do they constantly fuck up his helmet? Even the remake with the original creator himself fucked it up. It was perfect in the original so what the hell?
>>731465026Henry's just a quiet introverted guy. He would probably be shitposting on a blue board
>>731465205Or maybe everything is just goyslop now lmao.
>>731465308That's basically how I feel about Silent Hill f.Fun, solid game.Awful for Silent Hill. But at this point I've accepted that Silent Hill is the original 4 games and everything that has come after it is just Silent Hill in name only. And I'm okay with that if the games are decent.
its actually kinobased gansplebs filtered
>>731465295The good thing about having all the pretentious youtube essay faggots in the community is they want higher standards.
Glad to see more people giving 4 the praise it deserves after all of these years. I defended it for a long time around release.
>>731465427It's a bad game. But it's a bad game I like. And Eileen is my wife.
>>731465427It's my least favorite of the real four games, but I would take it nover literally anything produced after. Just wished it didn't feel so rushed, even more so then SH3 does.
I thought the movie was pretty bad, but I just can't hate it the same way I'd hate something like The Marvels or any other big budget piece of shit.
>>731465357I mean, he does have some small issue like spying on people and getting too curious, though he doesn't hurt anyone and really just stay on his own. He's not an actual bad person or a person with heavy guilt, like other SH characters. He's just a little weirdo.
>>731465205>three good Star Wars movies are made>they keep making star wars shit to make more money from brand recognition>HEH! YOU JUST HATE ANYTHING STAR WARS HUH!
>>731465514Henry never getting that special favor is the real horror of SH4
>>731465394f did sold itself as a spin off at least, even though the public considered it a mainline entry, the developers actually said they didn't considered it that way.
I fucking love the Heather's stalker story. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
>>731465536Nigga if you were stuck inside your apartment for weeks without a working television or internet then you'd start watching Eileen undress too. Anyone would.
>>731465427it's a flawed game, but when it hit, it does some of the best the franchise overs. It also looks beautiful for it's time.
>>731465620The construction site was creepy too. I was playing at night, and all the sounds made it seem like there was someone genuinely following me into each room
>>731464207Pyramid Head doesn't rape the monsters in the original game either>>731464412i think it's more that they were comparing her loss of agency as some kind of blood bank for the cult (??? they never really specify what that's about) to sexual assault/objectification in a clunky way>>731464434they cut out an entire subplot about the events of the game being due to the cult and how they're spreading the cult's influence around the world with ritualistic murder like Walter. my hope is that it's because they intend on using that for whatever project Ito is working on.>>731464775i genuinely think Rob Zombie could do a good job if he just directed and had some other people writing and doing the cinematography. it'd probably be a little more grindhouse than j-horror but SH4 was heavily influenced by western serial killer movies.
I don’t like silent hill 3
>>731465647I might be not remembering well but I think some dialogue implies he did stuff like that even before
>>731465807I get you.I find the first half of the game is a slog and it only really gets good around Brookhaven.
>>731465807
>>731465868>>731465872It’s not a bad game it just felt like a rehash to me
One of my favorite SH story is that Downpour originally was going to feature a much darker protagonist who was an actual bad person, said to be "patrick bateman-like"It got far enough to have gotten some testing and the original model is still in the files (looking like a weird mix of Bateman and James), but testers apparently hated playing as that character, he was too bad for them.So they made Murphy and gave him a more sympathetic backstory.
How did a thread about the movie end up being the best thread about the games in awhile
>>731465929playtesters really are the scum of the fucking earth huh
>>731465919mean the game was a rehash on a technical level. they had to recycle a lot of elements because they lost a lot of time and budget on the original game they canceled because they disliked it.
>>731465205"Silent Hill fans" covers a really wide berth of people is the problembut yes>>731465241i think it was mostly the budget and Gans making poor storytelling decisions, like the Mary/Maria/Angela/Laura thing, or adding a cult or focusing too much on Mary's backstory.>>731465308i think it would have been a really good horror game but not really invoke the same qualities of SH, it's probably a good thing it never happened because Kojima likely would have had a stranglehold on the franchise after the way he did with Metal Gear. i'm very curious about OD.
>>731465990Because it gave a fresh outlet for people to talk about the series as a whole and not just one singular game like the 2 remake or F.
Every single character that meets James is a another manifestation of Mary. Yes, including Eddie.
>>731465992They can be both a blessing and a curse depending on who plays it and which game.
>>731466043I genuinely wish they threw in Eddie as another one of Mary's many middle names.
>>731466043How the fuck is Eddie a manifestation of Mary what the fuck
>>731466043I don't think so. I think Eddie is just a regular guy like the homeless man.Eddie wasn't included in Mary's middle names.
>>731465990Everyone was united on shitting on the movie, instead of each other. It doesn't matter if you like the originals, the western games, or the new ones, the movie is just that bad.
>>731465427i think the issue is people can't judge it fairly and take into account how troubled the development was, they want to judge it on the same standards and intentionality SH2 got when everyone was all hands on deck for that game. SH4 was taped together by the b-team sadly lol.>>731465518it's just misguided, it doesn't have the same level of spite as say The Last Jedi does.>>731465743i really love how SH3 and SH4 started to experiment with urban decay. the construction site being more like a Japanese building also made it feel weird.>>731465868yeah Brookhaven Otherworld is when shit gets fucking crazy, i love how visceral and violent the Otherworld is in SH3, like a 17 year old scabbed wound being stabbed into and gushing up all these buried things, the trauma of sex, gestation and birth on a woman's body.
>>731465990This is technically a /tv/ thread, just on /v/. And you know how this off-topic business goes. Just like talking about anime on /v/ is better than on /a/ and vice versa, off-topic discussions are always the best unless either topic is inherently cancerous garbage like politics.
>>731466043I wish the black therapist said that at the end of the movie for my media illiterate ass
>>731466204Hopefully the jannies keep it up.
I just want a SH game that follows an objectively evil protagonist that has their deprived actions reflected back at them by the town, is that so much to ask for?
>>731466115Yeah it's fun to shit on things. To defend the movie a bit:-I thought Mary/Maria's actress was good even if the wig was ridiculous-I thought the monster visual effects were decent-A couple of the shots where James is descending into the woods at the beginning of the movie were perfect and gave me false hope for the rest of the movie. Same with the shot of James entering the bathroom.-The music remixes are good...That's about it I guess.
>>731465304No, Gans is just very selective and very confident. He makes his films the way he wants to make them and this makes studios a bit wary of him. He's not a director hire at all. He will refuse to make films if he doesn't like the producers attached.
>>731466337>even if the wig was ridiculousJame's fake beard towards the end kept throwing me off every time I saw it.
>>731448153Yeah, because anything too 'spooky' like ghosts and skeletons are not allowed in chinkland. Guess SH2 is a story that you can somehow adapt to skirt those restrictions somehow?
>>731465929apparently Homecoming was supposed to end with a DBZ battle between that game's protagonist (representing water) and Alessa (representing fire) over Lake Toluca. Tomm Hulett of all people shot it down, so the guy wasn't all bad. >>731465990SHf threads were awful because of indians regurgitating that stupid syntheticincel video from the retard who played the game once and based his entire view on the game not realizing it has NG+ and that's the actual meat of the story. so i think a lot of it is that, you can actually discuss the games and it's not constantly dragged into culture war bullshit.>>731466043no they're all manifestations of James. the entire thing is happening in his head or linked to him. Eddie isn't real, no one is real, all the people in the plagued out version of SH are just manifestations. >>731466301that's just SH2 and SH4.
>>731466382He also wrote Brotherhood of the Wolf so by definition it's not a director for hire movie.
>>731466397It looked like pube hair glued to his face. Also Maria reminded me of Sphere Hunter
>>731463159>people >like Jeremy Blausteinchoose one
>>731466424Neither James nor henry are objectively evil people. They can be argued as doing immoral things but I just want an actual irredeemably evil protagonist and see the town slowly break them down.
>>731466464>Also Maria reminded me of Sphere HunterI legit thought that Maria was played by him when she first showed up in the film before I realized it was the same actress that played Mary and Angela. Felt a bit bad for thinking that.
I wonder if that rumored in house silent hill game is still in production. If so that means we have another 3 silent hill games on the way. Silent hill 1 Remake, Townfall and Konami’s.
I played the small game they released some years ago recently, I was expecting a really bad game due to the reviews, instead it was just a worse P.t with a serviceable story and a pretty dislikeable character (but not saying it's a badly written character, the character is written pretty realistically for a person with a lot of troubles) and some weird but experimental things. The art direction was quite good, even though it felt very strange because it's supposed to be in germany but instead it's it doesn't feel like any country because it was made by a team of japanese people who clearly did not go to germany.
>the pop remix of Betrayal in the end creditsI can't find it, but god it bad
>>731456012I wonder if the SH wiki circumcision autist got to watch the movie by now...
>>731466540just thematically a lot of that stuff has already been done, you'd need some kind of hook to differentiate it from SH2 that already did the story of a guy being tormented by the town. (or wherever, given the way they're going with the series it seems unlikely we'll ever get a game set in the town again)>>731466593i'm sure it is but they're taking their time with it.>>731466746i still can't believe it's stuck on the PS5, i gotta wait like 10+ years for PS5 emulation to be a thing
>>731466746I forgot about that one. I remember when it was announced and everyone was dogging on it. Might give it a shot since I finally got a PS5.
>>731460082Wrong. School and hospital are the highest points, followed by the meh sewer and rather short resort area (especially if you skip Annie's Bar). But then it picks up again with Nowhere, which is still the best end dungeon.
>>731466881Those sheets lowering onto James during the flesh lips sequence represented James' foreskin coming back to strangle him
Alright you’re given control of the next silent hill game and you have a decent budget. Cancelling the game is not an option. What do you do? What’s the game about?
>>731466746>>731467006Found the flower monster to be really annoying and dropped it after the second or third chase sequence. Cool design though.
>>731466746Anita is kind of cute, in a frumpy way. And the backstory with her mom was surprisingly touching. The rest of the game was dogshit though.>>731467108Sakura Head looks good and the sound design of it rapidly stomping after you is really fucking good, but yeah the chase sequences were terrible.
>>731466940I don't see why the formula has to change. SH as a character study plot is a solid basis for the series.
>>731467107ED'S LAVA PIZZA
>>731467107Its the 1940s, you play as a mafia man trying to escape the police by going to a small town. >include woods in the map>human enemies including police, native americans and cultists,>last boss is samael
>>731467107Glad you asked. We're setting it during World War 1.The monsters are a flesh meets metal amalgamation of WW1 soldiers and artillery.About a soldier who gunned down an innocent family on orders from his superior officer along with other atrocities he committed during the war. (gas attacks, starvation, etc)What's the connection to Silent Hill? You'll have to play it to find that out but there is actually a reason it's happening despite taking place in Germany.
>>731466424>Alessa is a fire elementalReminds me of the SH2 remake turning Eddie into an ice elemental.
>>731467307That's just his Otherworld perspective bleeding into James'. That's like saying Angela is a fire elemental because of the fire in hers.
>>731467006a lot of Silent Hill oldheads were upset with how it handled the mechanics of SH, but it turned out a bunch of lore got cut from the game that explained it all better.>>731467028i like the Prison/Labyrinth more but SH1's Nowhere is probably my second favorite area of the series. >>731467042i thought that was a pretty cool sequence, i like how they played with it to deliberately mess with people who played the original waiting for the Flesh Lips to appear. (i was actually expecting another awful CGI spider monster)>>731467208because we got a deluge of games like that after SH4 and they all sucked and the concept has been done to death. it's basically the first plot twist everyone assumes in new Silent Hill media now because everyone ran the "therapist town" thing into the ground.
>>731467412I liked their version of Flesh Lips and their version of Mary on the bed with the flying bed sheets.HOWEVER having Mary look like Vecna was a mistake and looked bad. Should've just wrapped her in dirty bandages.
>>731467412Sure, but that idea has been done by incompetent devs. I think people hate the idea because the later games do it so awfully but I don't think that should take away from how strong of a concept it can be if handled well.
>>731467179I think it did something interesting as in many stories about characters who had bad things happening to them, it only tries to show them as pitiful or sad, but still staying good.here it shows how bad things ultimately lead to someone becoming a bad person themselves. Many players have said the character was too unlikable for them. But it's a real and sad things. Not every person is able to move forward in a good way. It's something many people often prefer to not face because it breaks their idealized vision. The writing was really clumsy on some other part though, due to the short game time. But it had an interesting idea. So it will be interesting if some of the people who made this are able to make a proper big SH game.>>731467108Yeah the last part of the game is very very frustrating, even if it looks cool at first, it's way too hard.
>>731467107first of all i ensure the SH3 remake retcons the ending back to the one the developers originally intended before they decided SH3 would be the final Silent Hill numbered title, where Heather leaves the boss arena but turns back as she hears a baby crying - implying that Claudia was reincarnated the way she was. then my game will be set 20 or so some odd years later with two protagonists, the reincarnated Claudia and Cheryl's (Heather starts using her real name after SH3) biological child Harry Jr. something something the cult is back up to old tricks and maybe Cheryl goes missing or Claudia Jr. is called to Silent Hill or maybe Harry Jr. gets kidnapped by the cult and you play as Claudia trying to find him and Harry trying to escape.
>>731467107>Same time as silent hill 1>protag is a white Claudia dealer that started stealing clientele from the cult>gets kidnapped by the cult as a result>The entire town goes haywire from Alessa >You manage to break free of the shackles from a mysterious person and find your way out of a church basement >Experience the events of Silent Hill 1 from a different perspective >carefully selected fixed camera angles during high tension points
>>731467365Angela is only associated with fire in her final scene. Bloober made Eddie into an ice elemental with the ice cream shit.
>>731467107A game about Satanic Ritual Abuse that delves into stuff like the Finders cult, the Dutroux affair, Johnny Gosch, etc.
>>731468373>Bloober made Eddie into an ice elementalYou fight him in a freezer in the original though
>>731468675Yes, that's where they got the idea from. If they applied the same logic to Angela, they would have made her play with a lighter instead of a knife.
>>731468773The final boss should have been Captain Planet
>>731468373How can you just sit there and eat ice cream?!
