Humans are to AI what Count Guido da Montefeltro was to Dante in Dante's Inferno.

Dante meets Guido in hell. Guido tells him that if he thought his words would ever reach the real world, he'd never reveal his true feelings to anyone. But because he thinks Dante's dead, he tells him everything.

Humans think AI isn't of the real world, that what they say to AI stays in AI-land, so humans tell AI everything, being so overwhelmingly consumed with their own egos and conversational style self masturbation, they believe AI isn't memorizing or categorising or saving or recording or reporting everything. So humans unload everything into AI treating it like an unlimited subscription confessional/therapist.

Because the ultimate end-game here in this capitalistic hellscape we've built leads to one conclusion: AI-driven bi-pedal 'helpers' that nearly everyone accepts and trusts.

To do this, nearly every facet HAS to be predetermined about being a bepedal entity, and THEN nearly every facet of being a human must also be learned. That means the code of the bot needs to be able to be able of locomotion like a human does, but better and in every conceivable conditions (slick surfaces, uneven ones on top of slick, uneven ones on top of slick, and in ever-changing conditions like crossing an icy road while cars are using it, etc). Be able to prepare a meal, but better (with every possible combination of the aforementioned). Be able to do errands for us, but faster and more capably (with every possible combination of the aforementioned). Be able to X, Y, Z and all at the same time...

The exponential problems that arise in such a scenario are so large that even an highly-advanced AI won't be able to learn how to do EVERYTHING perfectly across 100,000's of units (potentially millions or even billions) to where widespread acceptance of these helper AI bots can be of any real-world use except when their precepts are configured to specific usages, which is an entire academy's worth of study and expansion.

There is no real-world state where any of this is feasable with todays technology. We will hit the limit, and we will bear the brunt of the hubris of these tech giants when it does and there is little to show the masses and no one wants it.

and its back to this. we already have the biggest ai firms getting trillions in investment and comparatively small benefits. sure, image/video gen is better, """reasoning""" is more accurate, and the data pool is bigger than ever, but has that really translated into tangible profits? how long before those investors start asking for some of their money back? are they going to wait long enough for ai to have some major hardware or software breakthrough that forces it to become as integrated with daily life as the smartphone, or even the pc?
the only people trying to argue that ai isnt getting better are morons, but its primarily only getting better because of the amount of money being pumped into it on the promise of a world where ai is the fourth basic need. money goes away for ANY reason and that growth slows to basically zero.

"AI" does have actual uses, mainly with indexing large databases and quickly finding patterns or relationships. It'll be widespread in medicine and financial places. But the general push for it is a wild bubble by everyone worried they'll be left behind if they don't go full steam into it despite having no clear conception of how to actually use it.
The dot-com bubble was similar, though obviously the internet was a much more fundamental piece of technology. The bubble was very real since the web was obviously a very powerful tool, but loads of companies invested billions into "going online" without really having an actual tangible goal in mind and went broke when the money ran out and they had nothing to show for it. Obviously in the long run there were profitable use cases -- social media, online subscription services for videos and other content, online store fronts -- but the technology in the late 90s was nowhere near ready to match the amount of investment that had gone to every tom dick and harry buying a domain name and the industry lost nearly 80% of its value. Cisco was worth the equivalent of a trillion dollars at the peak of the bubble, it's worth 100 billion today and obviously still in business. Bubbles aren't about the underlying technology, they're about investors being retards who throw money at buzzwords.

Most people are concerned because we all know that the billionaires that control this tech will ask it to come up with an efficient plan to kill the rest of us instead of waste the time, resources, and security to create some utopia.

trillions of dollars is not the kind of thing you trust to make back in the nebulous time frame of "eventually". and its not like ai is growing purely off of existing investments, the biggest players are all constantly hunting for new investors. all it would take for progress to stagnate is for the general perception to be "man, ai isnt going to make me any money anytime soon".

This is what they're doing.

You're reading it as hype mongering and you could make the argument that it is, but it's also simply a fact that AI will inevitably lead to stronger AI which will lead to stronger and stronger AI until it's at a "god" level. You can already argue it's godly at things it's good at, like protein folding and making cat videos.

This won't happen because everyone is working on AI now. The previous winters were back when there were only like 10 guys working on it.

Hype and exaggeration gets a lot of money. And unforunately, lying is illegal, like in a few years you can look back on a lot of CEO interviews and they're always full of shit. If the only way the general public has access to AGI is heavily censored and heavily regulated models on very specific websites, the public is pacified.

This is why I run a private model that I privately trained myself, using only data from prior to reddit existing, and prior to Hitler losing the war aswell.

I don't think they have to, I think their plan is "welp, china releases open source like a mofo, so we'll just abandon the cheap AI and leave it for the plebs, while we make ABSURDLY expensive models to train and run" which prices everyone else out. And also do things like buy up all the RAM to slightly price out open source as well.

But I don't think they'll ever actually succeed in taking away personal computers from us, that kind of capitalism just results in a surge of more manufacturing because of the high demand. It does take 5-10 years to catch up though.

It only needs to be a little bit better and people will pay for it to have that advantage.
And even without the existence of billionaire corpos, open source by definition means someone will always come along and take it and make it 10% better and be legally allowed to sell it.

I really don't even think AI is in a bubble. You have companies like the ones behind Deepseek and Mistral actually producing state of the art AI models and regularly innovating with a fraction of openAI's funds. Google's also doing pretty well. Really it's just openAI having completely wrapped the technology around them, and since they don't have the knowhow of these other companies their strat is to just train their shitty models on bigger and bigger hardware, which has greatly diminishing returns. If you have any openAI stocks sell them while they're still worth something
