I like the idea and plot points of GX but I can never watch it fully. The actual "meat" of GX being the battles is so fucking ass. It's one thing with OG Yugioh being a bunch of D&D style battles and stuff in Duelist Kingdom and then mostly psychological plays in Battle City with Memory World scrapping most of the card games with the ZORC TRPG but since GX is an anime original and it's all about selling the cards, I can't handle the amount of shit plays and asspulls there is in the battles. It's like watching a boxing match where everyone is doing haymakers and the protagonist does a jab and everyone is gasping for air because they've never seen that type of shit before. Is 5D less of this or just pretty much more of the same thing? I just hate how GX/5D never really develop their characters either. Only read the manga for OG but Yugi was constantly growing throughout the entire series.

>>732174868The main issue with GX's cast is that nobody liked them so they dropped most of them after season 2 to focus on an almost entirely new cast for season 3. Only Manjoume and the Kaiser still get screentime because people actually liked them. And honestly I can't say it was a bad decision because O'Brien, Amon, Jim and Johan are all SO much better. O'Brien and Jim are some of my favorite ygo characters ever, Amon was a fun side-villain and Johan was a much better BFF/love interest for Judai

The cast is small enough so many character does not get sidelined so hard. The main antagonists in the first season has a reason to stick around. The theme of AI BAD INTERNET BAD ROBOT BAD is there from the start to the end. Ai is a top tier spirit partner and Revolver is always entertaining to watch. They didn't force an ugly bastard in the main group (Go and BRAVE MAX). Yusaku, despite having 0 lose rate, is the biggest loser of all the protag. He is a tragedy.
