>One of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of all time
>only games were a mediocre FMV point and click and a crime against God on the PS2
>>
drake and josh mogs the fuck out of x files
>>
>>732612134
It's one of those things where it's ingrained in the pop sci-fi genre itself, sort of like Mickey Mouse. It doesn't need to have franchise games because it is the progenitor of the franchise. Same with Ghost in the Shell.
>>
>>732612479
This, Twin Peaks and X-files influence is so common its basically taken for granted at this point.
>>
there's an openxcom mod that tries to do it
haven't played it myself though
>>
>>732612134
The FMV game is one of the best out there, pure soul
>>
>>732612134
if you're extremely literal minded in what you take to be its games, but deus ex and perfect dark are two of the best regarded games ever and both explicitly set out directly to do an x-files with guns game. i mean the first page of the deus ex design doc literally says that's the goal, and while i haven't seen the perfect dark design docs, they recreate fbi agents in the same chain link concrete fire escape rain puddle back alleys you see in season 1 of the show, and they have the friggin alien bounty hunter recreated 1:1 with a different name (same clothes even) and aspects of the plot are the same as the mytharc
>>
>>732612134
Its amazing that shes still hot to this very day.
>>
I think The Bureau would have better success if it's based on The X-Files instead of a reimagined XCOM

so what kind of X-Files inspired game would you make?
>>
>>732612543
I don't feel like x files really influenced anything and I watched most episodes on debut night
>>
>One of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of all time
X-Files? It wasn't that big, I'd argue it was kinda niche. Definitely a product of it's time, the whole "the goverment is evil and hiding things!" commentary is just cringe and obvious at this point.
>>
>>732612134
Search for X-com files. No need to thank me
>>
>>732613628
I remember at the time there were a lot of shows that were doing The X-Files thing but the only two I remember were Dark Skies and Baywatch Nights. That's right. The X-Files was so influential at the time that they made a Baywatch spin-off about Mitch Buchannon being a lifeguard by day and fighting the supernatural by night.
>>
>>732613628
Its influence was mainly on the television medium really.
>Mystery box main plot
>Monster of the Week episodic format
>Male-female detective duo investigating strange things
>>
>>732613693
It was absolutely not niche in any way.

>>732613908
Right but those things had no influence or renown of their own. Being influential is more than being short term copied
>>
>>732613938
That sounds like Twilight Zone. Maybe X-Files really didn't influence anything...
>>
>>732614028
Right. It was cool but I feel like it made little impact

Around the same time there was a dank as fuck sitcom where everyone was dinosaurs. Once again it was cool. But no influence
>>
>>732614083
Sure, X Files didn't really have any long term impact. Because, to be frank, the show mostly doesn't hold up. Actual good episodes are few and far between and mostly are ripping off much better movies. And the show did continuing going long after it stopped being watchable.
>>
>>732614259
Its long term impact was making TV shows that felt more like short movies.
>>
>>732614313
That wasn't something that began with The X-Files.
>>
>>732613584
A game with a mission-based structure and a pseudo-open world hub area between those missions. The missions would be like little Resident Evil maps, with a similar survival horror feel, just against aliens and various monsters rather than zombies. The hub area would have your Mulder and Scully ripoffs investigating reports and evidence in different ways(Scully through autopsy minigames, Mulder through finding shady people and schizos to give him clues).
And it would all come together into a massively disappointing episode. Some DLC would be released later with more missions to extend the story, but that would be equally disappointing.
>>
>>732612134

Not everything needs to be made into a video game. Not everything can be.

Point and click was probably the best genre choice for making a game with this series.

>"government is le evil"
Yeah name other mainstream show that explored this theme at the time. It's 1993. Like early fucking internet days. X-Files brought forth a surge of interests on the subject, exposing it to the normies. Ancient Aliens, predictive programming, the cabal, elites, Luminaddy / Freemasons, genetic programming, missing link, Demiurge, hybrid "meta"-humans - anywhere from comic superhero archetype, ancient mythical gods and their offspring (Hercules etc) and those of demonic bloodlines (Nephilimss etc) and every other 'God'-'Alien' hybrid creatures in between.
That was the core of X-Files. Not so much the weekly spoopy ghosts and cryptid sightings, but the actual main theme, conspiracies against the origin of humankind itself, obscured by the elites, which acts like the emmisary of the Demiurge.
Even in games you see this in Fallout, even Bloodborne. Movies, Shyamalan's Unbreakable/Split/Glass shit. That same elite lady in Glass also had similar role in Firefly/Serenity, also has gov conspiracy and genetic experiment / programming etc.
>>
There was nothing like X-Files then. Nothing. Again, it's fucking >'93. You don't just fucking go to /x/ here in 4chan and get your pseudo-esoteric stuff. There's not even a wiki or a internet board/forum discussing this shit. You think the public library would have books on these? How many things in the 70-80-90s people thought were mere tinfoil conspiracies, done by the CIA? Explored in movies? Asylums and institutes locking up people, experimenting on psychological or metaphysical stuff. Making syntethic drugs to elevate the physical limitations and explore boundaries, into the metaphysical planes? Also using drugs to destroy other nations, or control other cultures within the nation (Blacks, gang war, creating hoods, creating thugs) etc. Gun fucking control, give weapons to other nations, give weapons to gangs, blacklist foreign arms in favor of national arms etc. It's all true now. It's been declassified.

Insiders from the deep state has leaked stuff and gave them to the producers as the show was running. This has happened to Spielberg as well. Like, where do you think /x/ board gets its name from?
>>
>>732615272
Anon, the "normies" were exposed to that shit decades prior when the press started exposing all the actual real government conspiracies going on.
>>
>>732614678
Gillian Anderson is a sensual and open woman. Nothing like the uptight character she played. She did like a sensual scene before X-Files, and even in the early episode they had this one sensually shot scene of her undressing to find like something behind her neck or something. And then the infamous handjob instruction bit/skit. She's not shy of that. Scully is written that way because she's supposed to be like Jodie Foster's character in Silence of the Lamb. They were heavily inspired by the film, and by Clarice's mannerism/acting. Early X-Files is (still) so kino. They're shot like movies. I like especially the dark scenes in basement/carpark, stairways etc where there's just enough outside lighting to shine into the area, to make out figures or faces, especially with the one handler, that one black agent that was relaying infos to Mulder.

Gillian Anderson was basically a daddy issues slut.

Not so much a slut they'd do porn but reportedly a very easy woman who put a lot of her self-esteem into her sex appeal. There was an infamous episode a few years back where she was drunk on a plane and apparently didn't take kindly to some guy not knowing who the fuck she was leading to her going on a massive rant at the guy about she's this massive sex symbol that everyone worships and eventually devolved into her literally balling her eyes out over the fact that she's a nobody that nobody wants to fuck anymore.
>>
>>732615381
It's not explored further. Press as in the fucking newspaper, TV news. Not TV series. TV show is WIDESPREAD. Erich Von Daniken shit has been around since late 60s into the 70s, but it was Hollywood movies in the 80s 90s that shone some light to it, and it was the fucking Ancient Aliens History TV shows that reaaaly made it blow up in like 2010s. Even in the 2000s, /x/ websites are really cheesy and corny, reads too much like tabloids or fanfic for the mere normies, and the real """""academic""""" discussions or source materials are far too niched and nerdy for the mere normies.
>>
>>732615674

phone posting but doing a play run right now with game shark to give myself max molotovs (without cheating you only get 5 in the entire game). Game is kino, they reunited the entire cast to reprise their roles and the plot is 3 lost episodes. It only got hated because that shitty Spoony review 20 years ago. Solid resident evil clone.

Don't be a fucking idiot. It was considered an extremely mediocre game long before he reviewed it by people who never heard of the guy.

It's a very brief view of side tit. Not worth looking for. We're not talking Sandra Bullock's before she was famous full nude softcore scene here or anything.

Wearing flannel and has a overly done moustache to be the most evil of current people - millennials.

It's probably speaking to my lack of cop story knowledge but I always felt that Mulder had very Harry Du Bois energy. That one episode where he passes out and looses his gun to a serial-killer he had released because of psychic intuition had me howling.
>>
>>732616451
He also said The Thing game sucks but today it's remembered fondly as a modern classic that even got a night dive remaster. TRUST NO ONE who says Resist or Serve sucks, The Truth is it's a sleeper hit like Martian Gothic.
>>

Why do people think a successful show is guaranteed to be just as big in any other medium?

It was a popular 90s show and we reached the period where people are nostalgic for the 90s just like people were nostalgic for the 80s in 2010s and the 70s in the 2000s.

It's one of the best TV shows ever made.
>>
>>732614028
A lot of the influence is in craft more than theme. It was (and remains) a remarkably well-made show. Some episodes are better than others, but I think it holds up far more than most recent "prestige" TV.
>>
>>732617841
I was there when it debuted and stayed up til midnight to watch it on fox while parents were asleep. Recently rewatched it with wife for nostalgia.

It has more meh episodes than good. Does not hold up at all.

Because all kinds of salacious conspiracies and secret cults are getting exposed in the real world today. So people look to fiction to see if any of this shit was predicted, if alarms were sounded that went unnoticed or were hand waived away. There is an entire generation that never watched X-Files that are suddenly realizing all the shit the show brought up
>>
>>732618539
The shit getting 'exposed' is no more real than the show. These stories werent predicting or exposing anything. They were simply a trial run to grease the public up for the hoax.
>>
>>732618714
>grease the public up for the hoax
nearly 50 years after it happened?
