Those aren't mechanics, those are exploits. Mechanics are things like Roy's counter which is "punished" and turns the tide of the game because people can't aim and are flailing around constantly spamming so I can't predict where and attack will be due to the fact that they're counting on whiffing, which is just absurd due to the reverse of that being their whiff can be completely "punished"
So if basically forces me and everyone else to fight a certain way, which is either avoiding the punish or exploiting it. There's an entirely different way I'm trying to explain here

i don't understand how you can talk up melee's high gravity movement and simultaneously bitch about fastfall nairs and the character who benefits the most from that high gravity movement. maybe i'm confusing two posters for one. fox/falco/falcon are also relatively easy to gimp because of their fall speed (and falco/falcon's shitty recoveries), so once you use your beloved launch mechanics to get them off stage, good edge guarding is a logical and satisfying method of sealing the deal. as an aside, many of the "exploits" you dislike are the product of the same rushed development that led to most of roy's moves being programmed incorrectly.

The issue is that Rivals doesn't play like Melee. Even Rivals 1 feels more like Melee than Rivals 2 does, but neither one of them are truly Melee. Back when I was playing Rivals 2, everyone lived to retarded percents and no one died unless you blast zoned them. Everyone can always make it back. That, imo, is the most egregious example of Rivals being nothing like Melee, but the game is absolutely full of things that do not feel anything like Melee despite having similar tech.

Why is this an issue? I don't want Rivals to be Melee. I'm happy that there's an alternative to Smash Bros. that's fun and has its own identity. And that's the issue here: you're comparing Rivals to Melee on Melee's terms, rather than playing Rivals on Rivals' terms. It isn't a flaw that edgeguarding is different in Rivals, the issue is that you expect it to be identical to Melee. I'm friends with a Melee player who was PR'd in the most competitive region, and he effortlessly dog walks me in Melee. His biggest criticism of the game was
