What do we think about all the contributors to Mewgenics?
>>
>>732831480
Meh. Clearly mostly casted when everyone still had the wool over their eyes regarding YouTubers as evidenced by booger2988’s inclusion. From what I’ve seen/played their contributions are nearly unrecognizable so I don’t actively care

>>
>>732831480
I only learned about Tonetta from a Mewgenics thread a few days ago, and found a new favorite song. But some of his other content was so bizarre that I had to look into him, and the more I read the more I wondered how Edmund actually got him to contribute.

>mentally ill 77 year old hermit, has barely left his house since the 80s
>just stayed home making weird, sexually charged music for 40 years
>extremely bitter, insults fans
>hasn't posted any videos in 5 years
>has gone full schizo in the last few years
How did Edmund get through to him? Maybe it was just as simple as offering some money.

It’s weird to me that the popular view on the Middle East/Israel situation has shifted so drastically. For most of my life, muh antisemitism was the ultimate crime. Now the Jews are seen as just another group of white oppressors. The situation is undeniably fucked up, but it kinda always was.
How did the Jews manage to let the narrative spin out of their hands so much when they control the lion’s share of the media in the western world?

Because it didn't shift. You weren't allowed to criticize jews. And you still aren't among people who care about the other isms. But israel was only ever popular with evangelicals and deeply unpopular with both the far right and far left. They mostly flew under the radar with everyone else. But then they made the doubly retarded decision of drawing attention to themselves while also flexing the influence in Western governments and corporations that made them unpopular in the first place.

I'm tired of association being a social problem. We live in a world where now everyone interacts with everyone so who fucking cares. If they're a problem, they're a problem. Being in the same room as them and saying hello doesn't make you the problem. Anyone that thinks that way can die off.

>>732831480

He made this game before everyone became politically retarded. Getting a bunch of retards you knew to meow takes like 1-2 weeks
>>
>>732857804
If he was smart that's the angle he'd go with. Something like "regardless of our political opinions or personal grievances, we're all united by the true purpose of the internet: cats". Make the controversy an artistic statement in itself.
>>
>>732857330
Association has always been a social problem and it always will be. No one wants to be the friend of a friend to murderers, rapists, etc. Lately it's gotten excessive with people taking issue with mere disagreements. But, in the case, the two drawing the most criticism are a crazy person who allegedly sexually assaulted his mother and paid shills for a country that posts and brags about videos of children they've blown up. Not associating with people like that is an incredibly low bar.
>>
Who's Steph Sterling? Jim's sister?
>>
>>732858193
Or just say nothing because nobody that bought the game actually cares. I guarantee most people aren't combing through the fucking credits to find out who meowed
>>
>>732858326
I disagree and think this is a step too far.
Those things didn't even happen yet when the work was done, and even post-facto it's not even a direct association, it's multiple layers and years removed.
It's not like they worked with the guy who raped his mother, they worked with a guy who worked with a guy.
This kind of mentality feels paranoid and a path toward social isolation once you realize everyone you interact with on a daily basis has some disagreeable aspect.
Even people you might support like tipping the waiter you've never met. Or buying Edmunds game that incidentally has actors that turned into rapists.
>>
>>732831480
>tom fulp
Now there's a name I've not heard in a while.

>>732857330
It’s getting pretty wacky.
Even beyond associating with someone directly, now it’s like
>you watch Joe Rogan? I hope you die
>>
>>732858662
>Those things didn't even happen yet when the work was done
But they were known well before the game released and their meows were still included. No one has a problem with a person unkowningly working with someone that turned out to be pedophile or something. But it's expected that once you find that out, you distance yourself from them.
>everyone you interact with on a daily basis has some disagreeable aspect.
The only people who I have met that were as obviously insane as chris-chan were patients in a mental hospital. And I've never met a paid propagandist representing any government. And meeting someone who has done something objectionable is different from voluntarily including them in your work. My cousin's ex husband is a violent sociopath felon. If I was making vidya, I would have no reason to include him in any way.
>>
>>732831480
I'm just glad that Edmund and Rich Evans still working together.
>>
>>732859863
>The only people who I have met that were as obviously insane as chris-chan were patients in a mental hospital.
People are upset with a few names on this list for obvious reasons but it's kind of silly when you consider how many more people on that list are just as horrible unknowingly.
I don't think it should matter whether its known or not. It should be implied by default that everyone you interact with has something horrendous about them personally and we don't have to warp either our own life or theirs in reaction to it. Like seriously is it sensible to not buy a game you might want to play because of something like this? I think it's too deep over things too inconsequential. I don't know.

>It should be implied by default that everyone you interact with has something horrendous about them personally
This is retarded. Most people don't have anything that bad about them. Even something as comparatively benign as cheating on your spouse is on the upper end of what normal people get up to. The tiny minority who are actually awful should not be treated as the norm.
>>
a lot of these people have studios or professional mics already so it couldn't have been more than like, say let me give you an arby's gift card or a steam key so you can mew into a mic

>>732860650
Disagree again. Society today will see you ostracized for words alone. Cheating on your spouse is higher on the totem pole, it doesn't take that much these days to be an outcast or canceled, and this is made word by this kind of propagation through association.

I'm willing to bet you have at least 1 idea or preference that may get you in trouble if people knew about it. Regardless of if you act on it or not.
I think it's "retarded" to think the other way around, to assume everyone is good and flawless by default, especially in perpetuity over a lifetime.

The only two that anyone cares about are ones that anyone who isn't retarded would have predicted would draw criticism.

You and I are already guilty by association posting with racists, pedophiles, and terrorists.

>And it's curious that you keep trying, through various means, to collapse all wrongdoing as equally bad.
I think it's important. Maybe not to treat the actions as equal, but the response.
I think it's more damaging to not only remove 2nd chance from an individual, but to cast their crimes onto their associates. It's much too hasty and irrational even at face, but thinking deeper it just gets worse. We'd start to get into the topic of, okay maybe someone is bad but should we conflate producers and products? Is the game and its author bad because some people associated with it are subjectively evil to some arbitrary amount of other people?

Sorry if you're getting frustrated with my perspective. The intent isn't to argue. I'm just writing thoughts on it. I appreciate reading your side of it as well.

Should I buy this for my grandpa(deceased)?

Jay's never really engaged with it actively but isn't really dismissive either. He used to show up on prereq streams some times for example, just not his thing.

In any case why would you bother saying no to something like? "Hey man you wanna give me like three takes of a dumb cat meow for my game? I'm trying to collect the most excessive list of random internet cameos possible." is something you'd have to be particularly miserly to bother saying no to.
>>
>>732841316
I very much doubt money changed hands for any of these. It's literally just saying meow a couple times. Edmund probably just asked people he likes via email if they were interested and they just went for it because why not?

If I were him and someone was jewish enough to demand money for recording a single word I'd just forget them and move on.

What does this have to with me never saying people are flawless? No one treats someone who shoplifted as a teenager the same as a person who committed a sex crime against a relative.
>remove 2nd chance
This is irrelevant here. Neither of the controversial parties have attempted to rehabilitate their public perception.
>We'd start to
You're acting like this is new. It isn't. This has been and will be present in every society to some degree. There have been plenty of times and places where you could be executed for sufficiently controversial associations.

>You're acting like this is new. It isn't.
Being new or not isn't the point, it's moot.
Just because we have done something forever doesn't mean it's good or worth holding on to. There are many, many things society and humanity both sheds over generations.

Today I got a kitty that actually had voice lines instead of just meows and it was pretty adorable.

>good or worth holding on to
This is irrelevant. Some level of pickiness concerning who people associate with is human nature. It is outright impossible to eradicate it. Any attempts to do so will fail, likely causing worse problems than those they intended to fix.

Vinesauce got Mike to do a bumper or brb read for them over ten years ago. Sometimes people don't mind being reached out to for a silly request. You really can just ask.
If you are very cynical, Ed has notoriety and audience reach to sweeten the pitch. Though, at that point, suggesting the Isaac obsessed Rich and Jack ask them when recording their own stupid meows is probably the more effective idea. It's fun to join in.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/edmund-mcmillen-on-assembling-mewgenics-meow-cameo-list-the-inclusion-of-people-with-clashing-ideologies-felt-appropriate

> "I understand we live in a time where a meow from someone who has different beliefs as you is scary and frustrating, confusing and controversial..." McMillen continued, "but it felt interesting so I decided to explore it. Also, I should probably point out that I don’t share the same opinions as, well probably any of the people we included, if I only included people who share the same exact opinions as me, I’d be the only one meowing in the game. I included Chris but also liquid Chris (those who know, know)...I didn’t [realise] Matan was controversial, I mean a lot of these people are characters doing bits.
> "It’s sad that some people might read this or other articles and be so put off by the idea of an inclusion of someone they don’t like so much that they will never play the game," he concluded, "but I’m not sure someone who would be that upset by a 'problematic meow' would really enjoy the game that much anyway. Honestly the thing that bothers me the most about all this is, if a cat appears with the voice of someone you hate...you can literally throw it in the trash...or worse! People need to get more creative with their hate!"

Edmund is clearly heavily inspired by him, and Jhonen loves vidya so much it’s amazing he never worked on one (unless you count indirect involvement in every Nickelodeon crossover game with Zim) until now. He did art for the Isaac card game too.
