How do you deal with the fact that you're getting older and that all your favorite games are 15 years or older now? My favorite games are>Left 4 dead 2 >Team Fortress 2>Minecraft >Portal 2I feel like I'm having an existential crisis and just wish I could go back to when their games were newer. 26 years old.
>>732971628The sooner you accept you're going to die, the less you spend suffering in something you can't control
>>732971628>I feel like I'm having an existential crisis and just wish I could go back to when their games were newer. Why do you want to go back so bad?

>>732971628It can help to name new games you're looking forward to.I'm excited for Scott Pilgrim EX and Bubsy 4D.
>>732972180I don't know of any. That's the problem.
Stop making this thread you fag.
I show them to my kids and if I'm lucky they'll show them to their friends too. It helps I can fit the emulators and games on pretty cheap USBs. Like fuck what's $5 to give out some 32gb USBs?
>tfw the years keep getting shorter
>Born in 1993>Play video games since at least 4 or 5 years old>Still play games now>Constantly find new favorite games each year and things that blow me away that the industry comes up with, mainly in the indie sceneSounds like a personal problem. You're probably just burnt out or not trying different experiences in games/genres that would require expanding your perspective on it all. While I may go back and replay Fallout 1 and 2, load up Legend of Mana off a scratched up disc on my barely functioning PS2, or collect every soul in Aria of Sorrow for the hundredth time, I'm also having a blast with new shit. I grabbed Astrobot on sale during the holidays and was smiling from ear to ear going through it, SMTV Vengeance was easily one of my favorite JRPG experiences in years only matched by Expedition 33, and now I'm picking away at Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and blown away by the reactivity the game has to shit I do. Not to mention indies, like I tried Peak with friends and had an amazing time, went through Look Outside which was almost my GOTY in 2025, played The Upturned which was an adorable and fun experience, and I replayed Darkwood which is still in my Top 3 of horror games ever.Try new games you would never normally try, stop comparing them to old experiences and see what they have to offer, and, honestly, maybe find other hobbies. If you're burnt out and not enjoying games as much, take a break. Do other shit so you can come back to vidya with a better energy.

>>732972932I don't know what to play nor do I really feel excited for any new games coming out.
>>732971628It doesn't bother me because I know we all go eventually, and you and your mutie-bastard friends are gonna join me in a big ol' mushroom cloud sendoff. I just triggered the self-destruct. >>732973131Then stop forcing yourself to play games. Do other shit. I got burnt out super bad a couple years back and felt miserable playing anything. It wasn't because video games were bad, it was because I was in a bad space. So I started writing stories, got into that for a while. After a while, I came back to games and felt that energy for them renewed. Now I'm back to finding absolute gems every five minutes, between big industry titles and smaller indies. With the indie scene especially, games have arguably been in the best space possible for quality and variety. If you genuinely can't find something to play/enjoy out of the thousands of titles coming out every month, that says more about your personal life and state. Work on that. Being old is learning that enjoyment takes effort sometimes. You don't just find a cardboard box and sit in in, having a blast in your own imagination like you could when you were 5. You can't load up some bombastic shooter that takes 2 brain cells to enjoy like you could when you were 15. Your brain gets tired of the same shit over and over again when you get older and needs more variety. Not to mention general life stress contributing. Video games aren't the problem, you just need to work on getting to a space where you can enjoy what's there.
>>732973538I didn't play a video game for like years before I got back into them again. It's hard for me to play basically anything.
>>732973762Well there you go. If you haven't already, finding effective treatment and habits for that diagnosis would help immensely. It's hard to enjoy anything when your brain is fighting you every step of the way. Especially trying to pick up new games. Old games you know, you love, you can hop into and get the same enjoyment each time. New games require sitting down with them, learning all the new mechanics, and all in the hope that you'll enjoy it after enough time of getting a sense of what it's all about.ADHD is fucking brutal at times. Arguably, maybe video games just aren't super suited to the symptoms you experience. Maybe it's something you can work on and find enjoyment in, but with age comes changes in symptoms and their severity. It could be that you just need to look at other activities, which is totally fair.
>>732973948I can barely play any online games anymore without immediately tabbing out to look at other things.
>>732972932Damn, I wish I had such terrible taste that I could enjoy every turd that comes my way
>>732971628I'm just happy games are still entertaining me. Regardless, i'm not particulary concerned with aging since i decided that if i'm still alive by 40 i'm jumping off a bridge, not because im depressed but because i dont feel like being older than that.
>>732974124Then it honestly sounds like maybe video games aren't keeping your attention or giving you the enjoyment you're seeking. It's not that games are bad or anything, you're just in a different space in your life. That happens with age. It kinda sucks because it leaves you trying to figure out what to do with your free time, but, again, that's growing old. You gotta work for your own enjoyment and fun sometimes. I have a friend that basically just plays one or two games each year, and otherwise paints Warhammer figs and likes cooking now. Another listens to true crime podcasts and chills at bars with co-workers. We all still play games together sometimes, but they used to play games every day. Now they play maybe once a week.It happens. Kinda sucks sometimes, but that's growing up. I'm able to still enjoy games like I used to, but I'd argue that's the exception to the norm. You may be in the time of your life where you gotta find other stuff.
>>732971628>mineshartYou're barely in your mid 20's shut the fuck up
I'm a sucker for Soulslikes, and Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games, I don't understand people who get so stuck on the past.
>>732973831Is there anything at all you enjoy? Sounds like a form of depression called anhedonia.
>>732974446outer wilds was 9 years ago anon
>>732974556I usually just enjoy roleplaying or just sitting on my phone watching stuff. It's hard for me to enjoy basically anything else. I'm gonna try getting into writing again, but I don't know.
>>732971628I already felt old in 2011 when I was 18. All we used to do on /v/ back then was constantly nostalgia bait like now, nothing has changed. I felt like I was 50 at 20 and had already lived too damn long.
>tranny circusDon't worry, you will kill yourself soon
>>732974774Why are you still here
>>732974562I only beat it last year. I think gaming is more fun when you can only do it for an hour or two a day.
>>732972932Dubious What's the last good game you found?
>>732972932Fuck the games you listed, but I do agree with you on the indie stuff. Every other month it feels like a really fun indie game drops and I spend weeks and weeks on it. I'm 1993 fag as well, and I'm still enjoying gaming. But if I only played Triple A games, then yeah I'd be as depressed as OP.
>>732972634In temporal perspective, 22 years old is the exact middle of your life
>>732972079make more memories. Life is an instance of OH WHAT I CAN FEEL THINGS and then you stop feeling and become dirt.
>>732971628It helps to realize how old other things are that you enjoy. For example, Super Mario World released in 1990, which was before I was born. I love that game and its, what, 35 years old? Pac-Man came out in 1980, so its 46 years old. You can't stop time like some sort of JRPG villain. We're all getting older, including younger people.
We must kill time
>>732975057OP here, funny story, when I was a kid, I really wanted to play Mario World romhacks because all the YouTubers back then were playing them too.
>>732972079>Gaming during my middle school years were some of the happiest experiences of my life. That's crazy, I had more fun when flycast released on fightcade as a dude in his mid-30s than I ever did with anything as a middle schooler. Like so much fun that I get a sinking feeling when I think about how I don't do it any more. And I'm similarly doing stuff with shmups now that's blowing my freaking mind that I will never forget. Maybe you just aren't putting in the effort? Like maybe you're taking for granted that you aren't a naive child and can experience things with clarity now? A lot of my favorite games are newer anyways.

>>732975180Tranny!
>>732972932this anon is right. I'm '92 and live very similarly but my tastes are slightly different, I mostly play super metroid but very recently I played a lot of darktide and bayonetta. I've already done the whole competitive pvp thing and the only value to get from that is meeting rivals at tournaments and getting your ego destroyedso bad that you start loving everything and everyone, outside of that, it's a complete waste.New amazing games are coming out every day and my only regret is that I won't be able to play them all
>>732975180I honestly cannot think of a single new game that I've been excited for that hasn't immediately disappointed me or hasn't been as a good as I thought it would be. The old games that I've listed still give me enjoyment, but basically no other new games have been enjoyable for me so far.
>>732974923Good game? I mean, I'm enjoying Nioh 3, but that's the kind of slop that I just enjoy for the combat. Arguably everything else is garbage (story, graphics/performance, etc). It's just the kind of slop I can turn my brain off and have a blast tweaking builds and shit. Otherwise, there was Abiotic Factor which was fucking awesome even solo, Look Outside was, again, fantastic, I tried Labyrinth of the Demon King which was good but lacking in terms of content I feel, and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is shaping up to be something special. To each their own, but I've been having a lot of fun the past few years with what's been coming out.>>732974947Exactly. And yeah, different games for different people. But we can both agree that there's just so much shit out there to play and enjoy, especially with indies. If you genuinely believe there's nothing to play, that's more of a personal thing I feel.
>>732975438>I don't have any friends to hang out with anymoreGo on fightcade, you'll make friends if you put in the effort. And I don't even mean effort into socializing, just show that you're making an effort to get better and people will be your friend. Well, maybe not literally every day, but yes.My backlog is full of games, including old and new games. I won't be able to play them all before I die, and that's okay.Every year gives me 2 or 3 new games that I really enjoy.>>732975546What games are letting you down? Maybe it is a matter of perspective? For example, I really liked Silent Hill f, and while yes it had a lot of flaws (that I won't go into). However, I still enjoyed myself and what it was trying to do. Its a solid 7/10 for me, and that's okay. I don't need every game to be a 10/10. I'll be let down by some parts of the game and enjoy many other parts of the game. Not saying to lower your standards, but maybe try looking at things more optimistically. Also don't listen to the crabs in a bucket on /v/. So many times /v/ will talk crap about games that I love, and I wouldn't know it unless I played the games myself.
Who cares? Everything and everyone dies eventually. No use worrying about it. Plus I'm pretty sure death ain't the end so it's all good. If it is the end, then it won't be my problem, same as before I was born. But I'm confident that this life is only a part of something much greater.
>>732975821Honestly I'm mostly looking for the kind of games that are listed in the OPGames with a big fanbase, that have a ton of Steam Workshop mods, big community servers, stuff like that. I want a game that I can invest a ton of time into. This is why I mostly play autism simulator games.

>>732976473No, the actual problem is that there's no better games that are on the market right now and none of the video games that you listed in your massive list are actually better or competing with the games in the OP. That's the issue.
>>732976429I like it. The personal therapy sessions do get a bit tiring I do agree.I want there to be an actual video game of the series. I think that could be good if it was made like one of those good tie-in video games (Battle for Bikini Bottom, etc.).>>732976318What about Halo? Fortnite? CoD like that anon said? I heard good things about Marvel Rivals. There are fighting games too. Those usually have a big community. Also games like Yugioh Master Duel, or that one free Yugioh sim (forgot its name).
>>732976164By liking good games and not shit ones with no point in investing time into?
>>732976912I don't like Halo, COD, or Fortnite. I don't like normalfag stuff. I'm not interested in Marvel Rivals at all either. They all look insanely boring. I've never been good at card games either.
>>732976986Why not take the shmup pill?
>>732976771>No, the actual problem is that there's no better games that are on the market right nowIts not very hard to be better than TF2 dude. That's a terrible game. Like the map design in CS is so much better and the gameplay is way less repetitive and mindless. Minecraft is alright, but terraria is better for the whole survival crafting thing, and stuff like OpenTTD and Factorio are way better for like logistics and redstone autism stuff, and you could take that a step further and segue into like Opus Magnum for cycle optimization. Speaking Opus Magnum, Portal 2 is kind of a super casual and boring puzzle game by comparison? And Opus Magnum is like the easiest game from that dev. And I'm gunna be real with you, L4D is just dogshit.
>>732977110CS is FAR more repetitive than TF2. With TF2, not a single round plays out the same way. Whereas with CS you're essentially using the same loadouts and same strategies over and over and over again. Left 4 Dead 2 is the best co-op shooter on the market right now. Better than even Deep Rock Galactic. Deep Rock Galactic doesn't even have a fucking healing mechanic like Left 4 Dead 2 does with giving pills to players. There's barely any teamwork either. CS is also just knives opening gambling dogshit, so I'm not playing that. Again, nothing you're listing here is better than any of the games I've listed here.
>>732976986>I don't like normalfag stuff.>Games with a big fanbase, [...] big community servers, stuff like thatI'm getting a bit of a mixed message here then anon. The only thing I can think of are shooters. or fighting games. Although >>732977019 makes a good suggestion. I haven't looked into shmups but I know some series have a huge following with lots of mods. That seems like its up your alley. You could also try making your own video game. I'm working on my own game right now and its pretty rewarding.
>>732977270>CS is FAR more repetitive than TF2I don't know dude, I feel more mentally taxed from playing a single 1 minute round of CS than I do from playing TF2 for 10 hours. Its kind of just MOBA style maps and retards bashing into each other over and over.

>>732971628Nah not really I still find new games fun and exciting, getting older also means you suffer from your brain fully developing, a matured brain is naturally less inclined to whimsy because we become more logical The sooner you accept you're just smarter and harder to be impressed by dumb bullshit the happier you'll be

>>732976634Not him; it doesn't need more critique than that. The creator is an autogynephilic ghoul, and the studio and fanbase are both made entirely of troon capitulators. No version of the series would ever be worth watching by anyone with any sense of cultural self-preservation.

If you mean overly obsessive compulsion to introspectively ponder autism, xenoblade x (the scifi one) is basically all there is that's modern-ish. If you mean lore autism, then nah there's nothing at the moment because either everything with potential is meaningless and you can't idolise the creators, or they are a part of the high budget publishing floods that only exist due to graphs.
>>732978090>>732978380Do these games having a modding community behind them? The lack of modding, community servers, and just generally lack of community in general is why 95% of modern day games feel boring and dead to me.
>>732971996Even people younger than me want to go back, the world is fucked now m8I have nieces and nephews ask "what was it like to be able to just.. disconnect" and it's difficult to explain that it took effort to connect in the first place, and when you did, there was a general understanding that a company trying even .001% of what they do today would result in mass outrage and legislation. Trying to explain to young people that AOL once got in trouble for trying to serve tiered internet subscriptions in the 90s. Now that's just normal, most people live under pay-per-play rules under LTE plans. Or how in the 90s there were senators trying to ban targeted advertisement under fears that gathering the data on every US Citizen without their knowledge or consent violated every law made against Stalking on the books. Now everyone is just cool with it and you're the weirdo if you think that's wrong. I genuinely don't know how much more people can take, it feels like we're one more financial ruining crash away from the country going full-fash and nationalizing all of these companies if they keep pushing. People who weren't even born in 2010 already think Luigi was a hero.
>>732971628You cope by adopting misnthropy and a having an increased interest in politics like the rest of the internet that has seen their hobbies be affected by the post 200 global enshitification
>>732975036>make more memories. You can't really do that on the nu-internet. If you try to participate in any social media now, you're either mobbed or banned by bots and all of your interaction is isolated, and it's like this by design. Social media companies figured out that isolation is their most powerful tool, and most people will pay to escape the prisons they build. That's why Meta shadowbans facebook accounts and then forces people to get business accounts to talk to a real person to unban them. Now X does the same thing with verified accounts. They know people will pay it. They can also double dip by selling their information. Tell me, how do you make memories in an environment where you're not allowed to interact with any random strangers at all? All of the interconnected strengths of the internet are dead, and bots and corpos killed it.
>>732977356Still far better than CS. I want a game like that, one that has a creative thriving community with mods, community servers, uncensored chats. No game out there like that exists anymore as far as I'm aware.

I would recommend reading a bunch of books and then playing your favorite games again afterwards. It's interesting seeing the story of odysseus and homer retold by little funny mustache man jumping high. Maybe dabble in some philosophy and theology then go hard into scifi like alfred bester arguably the inventor of the cyber punk genre with tiger tiger. Then read blood meridian and try playing GUN for ps2

>>732978575If anything it's healingRadicalism is a candle that burns twice as hot and burns out twice as quickPeople are being tired of the algorithms, demoralization, influencers, the see-saw culture war. They hit terminal fatigue and just go outside because outside is actually the escapism from IRLs BS. The politics, corps, buisness moguls all saw their fading influence as information was no longer monopolized and people could access information and connect with people outside the cable TV talking heads of propaganda and marketing. So they all followed us into the web following the social media and smartphone boom. And now the net has become indistinguishable from the BS people had sought to escape. But here's where Nature wins. As it always ALWAYS does. IRL is unironically the oasis to escape the BS. The said cancer has become so invested and so tunnel visioned on the net it has forgotten about outside. People are going back to community events, enjoying the smaller things in life, getting into the boomer hobbies like gardening, hiking, working on cars, amateur sports, home improvement etc etc and going to said irl events for those hobbies. Completely burnt out and refusing to play the game the net wants them to play. Even manual and industrial labor for wages is seen as an escape from the exhausting outrage culture and vampire service economy.Ofc there will be the pathetic few who are terminally online and will travel across the country to protest some artifical outrage shit that they've been told to or try to wear a false mask of sincerity that is obviously what the algorithm told them too (all the other trend chasers are doing it too at the same time so the actual people with souls can easily tell them apart and rightfully want nothing to do with them and do not take them seriously) ofc the same bad actors will desperately fight tooth and nail to paint this minority as the majority. But look outside and you'll see Nature kicking their narratives ass.

>Game that gives you hope again>Flawed heavily but has character and lots of potential to be really something if they listen to feedback and make the sequel a simple improvement to formula>wait almost a decade wishing for it>it comes out>its a completely soulless shityy cash grab devoid of character and soul>bombs>IP will probably be permanently shelved. It is one of the worst vidya feels.
>>732978719>how 2 make memoriesdo things that don't engage with a desperate dependency on third party platform design. So in other words, do literally anything that doesn't require a system of "likes"
Still not seeing any recommendations.

>>732979586Yeah and to add to this, the .01% people that are psychos and want to destroy the world are very scared of the masses. That is why they want to control us so bad because we are seen as a threat to their destroy humanity plans. They don't have as much control as much as they thought or what social media tells us, which is why they keep trying all these 1984 nightmare laws. But there will always be more people going 'nah you aren't in control' and pushing back than people giving up. The fear narrative isn't working like they thought. And even if they end up destroying the internet or video games or whatever, something else will pop up in its place that they can't control. Especially true for the newer generations, who are getting taught this lesson earlier in life as the psychos try to claw for more power and end up showing their hand. It's going to get better eventually overall. Some things worse, but most other things better. Humanity will adapt and things will balance out.
Dear all zoomers I hope you're ok and I would help you if I knew how. You sound fucked up and depressed and even more autistic than me a boomer giga autist
>>732980729>That is why they want to control us so bad because we are seen as a threat to their destroy humanity plans.Sitting on your ass and playing videogames and going to 4chan is a form of control through pacification.
>>732979557>widely liked game is dogshit because of one guy said so
>>732980974Nah, because no one is forcing me to play Soul Calibur 3 or waste time on 4chan for hours on end. I make decisions like that on my own.And video game players have much more power than some want us to believe. We control the profit for their products. They need our money more than we need for them make games for us. We can even make our own games if we want.
>Wanting to go backI never want to be even remotely childlike again. Horrible experience. I'm so much more excited thinking about what my life will be like fifteen years from now than thinking what life was like fifteen years ago
>>732981742No, that person is right. You sitting at home playing video games is not a threat. You're effectively removed from the equation which is the point.
