Tbh those old desks were awful, I liked the colors but they were so restricting and felt antinatural with minimum usable space.
The issue nowadays is that you are constantly IN the internet one way or another with your pocket computer. Kids nowadays cannot imagine a life without constantly being on an electronic device and parents that allow that are the main issue. Personally I won't let my kids touch a tablet or smartphone until they are like 13 at least.
>>
>>733164837
This. I have nostalgia for the era and the stuff around it, but I don't miss those rolling keyboard shelves. They tended to fall apart with time, and were clearly not made with long-term use in mind.

That motherfucker was a pain in the ass to use as a middle schooler.
>>

I used to have one of those cheap-looking wooden desks with multiple shelves on it and the pullout drawers and even that exact same finish.
Do not miss that fucker at all, it wasn't horrible but I had a habit of slamming my mouse into the divider while playing vidya since I was a dumbass kid in 2001.
>>
>>733166297
>Bonus points for copious multimedia and quick search/email buttons.
Soul
I don't think I ever used a single fucking one of those buttons back in the day, but nowadays they'd probably be pretty useful for macros or alternate keys or function switching.
>>
>tfw the internet connection is either off or goes into maintenance
>feel a sudden sense of peace as I have to actually do something else for once

Humans are not made to sit on the internet all day.
>>
>>733166297
I wonder if the black part with all the extra buttons can separate away from the rest of the keyboard. Might've been pretty neat for saving space at the time if you didn't need the tenkey portion and all the extra shit.
>>
>>733164803
Jobs now expect you to be connected at all times. Mundane services now expect that you have a smartphone. I've had to talk elderly relatives through online banking because the physical banks they used closed down.

>>
>>733166798
Kinda, but I experienced this while the internet was a thing, mostly because it was before everyone could afford a cellphone and the ones who could were stingy with their minutes, so you'd just hang out at local meetups like the mall or a cool friend's house or the local minimart before you inevitably got chased off for loitering.
I have no idea how any zoomer or gen A managed to socialize in a world where malls are dead, public places are full of angry swarthy gangbangers, every mom is a helicopter parent, and all the minimarts and fast food joints ban anyone under the age of 18 from entering without an adult because aforementioned swarthy gangbangers keep swamping the place to stab each other and beat the fuck out of the employees.

Man, the reason I got a phone in the first place was because I pretty much needed an app to do any kind of banking. They were also the reason I had to update my phone, because at some point the banking app stopped working on the old OS.
I do have to admit that the app is pretty efficient to work with, so that's something at least.

We got the Internet in 2001, because my mother wanted to wait until y2k destroyed the previous batch of computers so we didnt waste our money.

But yeah I remember dialing in, browsing Gamefaqs, playing games. I dont know what fuckin connection these niggas had but I was always lagging out and getting kicked in Starcraft and whatnot so alot of it was single player.

I think being able to disconnect was important. Internet use was a decision. "After this let's get on the internet". "I am going to get off the internet". Can't help but think this was all a mistake. Writing this in bed on a smartphone, so, im part of the problem.

And the phone I'm using now is pretty much an antique that can't do anything a smart phone is expected to, I use it exactly like a dumbphone. The main issue is that everything since the late 00s is redesigned around smartphones. And then that was followed up by the massive consolidation of the internet onto only a few websites for the sake of convenience.
Now all videos are on youtube or instagram or tiktok and people go on twitter, reddit, et al. to talk about shit. Nobody runs blogs, neocities is more a novelty than a serious return to form, we just vomit thoughts into the aether in random places. A huge fucking problem with the discord ID drama is that everybody basically abandoned having websites in lieu of just having a discord or a Facebook page and thus nobody knows how to break out of the system. People were bewildered at the Nintendo Today app but that used to just be how you got fucking news on the internet, publishers would just post shit on environments they controlled.
And then the third problem is the destruction of the barrier between real world identity and internet identity. And we protected ourselves by wrapping ourselves in insincerity and irony. You used to be able to just enjoy that a cat could just be really long.
On the internet people used to not know you were a dog.

Mech quietness is more a factor of your switches and keycaps than the board itself, highly recommend looking at Skyloong GK2 keycaps and anything labeled a "silent" switch. GK2 keycaps are rubber plugged into plastic platforms and are as silent as a keycap can possibly get

My phone is on silent 100% of the time. I used to care about answering messages ASAP, under the foolish belief that I'd like it if people answered MY messages quickly, so I should treat them as I'd like to be treated. But I realized people will do whatever the fuck anyway, and hearing notifications and feeling the need to answer them quickly only increased my anxiety and stress, until one day I thought "nah, people can fucking wait, I'll check my phone when I feel like it and, unless it's urgent, I'll answer when I feel like it". Sure, it's caused a couple of issues here and there with some people, but it's so much better like this, and thankfully my work is not one that requires me to be on call at all times or anything.

You literally cannot function if you don't have a smartphone, and especially not if you don't have internet access at all times. You're expected to just subscribe to all kinds of shit
I remember when I tried to do a course for cooking and restaurant management and the teachers just expected you to have a portable device with your own internet access

The "pokemon transformed into data" is just for the sake of transportation, most of the time they're stored in a physical space. Presumably something like the OG versions like Bill's would just spit all the pokeballs out in the event of such a disaster and then if the balls themselves were damaged the pokemon would just freely escape.

Switches come in tactile, linear and clicky and I highly recommend the following for each category
>Boba U4T, Kailh BOX Brown v1, MMD Princess v1 and v2 (tactile, Boba U4T comes in silent and half-silent variants, U4 and U4Tx)
>Gateron Yellow, Gateron Oil Kings (linear, Yellow runs for super-cheap)
>Kailh BOX White, BOX Jade, BOX Navy, Gateron Melodics (clicky, BOX White is a light switch, BOX Jade and Navy along with Melodics are heavier switches)

And it gets disguised as "oooh, aaaaah so minimal and sleek and modern" for plastic particle board tables and desks that are featureless rectangles, and people eat it up and don't even realize how they've been duped.

At least old well built furniture is still available off facebook marketplace for next to nothing. Which just makes it even crazier how people will actually spend more money on worse quality instead

Exactly. This is an incredible chance to control consumer technology, and cripple affordable access to it. Then there can be mandatory phones and other devices to do anything, all of it fully backdoored to track everything you do at all times, to feed to AIs and to begin figuring out how to execute the billions of people for their fantasy of billionaire paradise world. It's going to get fucked in ways very few people are actually ready for, especially since this is their PLAN. The REALITY will not work that way, and is going to end in massive bloodshed as billionaires attempt to force their fantasy on reality.

Get psyched!

Inoculation is a hilarious way to think about it because it's so very true, even my own wife is a complete trusting retard from a time before people started telling lies on the internet. I've had to pull her loose from AI youtube short tailspins.

Tinfoil hat bonus: Adolescent suicide jumped +50% in males and +70% in females (girls commit suicide less often overall) since 2007--the year social media went live and public. I personally believe internet monoculture is killing the souls of the newer generations.

They needed a solid excuse, else there would be too much natural pushback from way too many places. But we've reached a new stage of history; people still haven't shook off the stun from Covid, but 2020 marked the END of the previous era. Companies now have the excuse to escalate prices endlessly, too many people died to have coherence to fight back against these new practices, billionaires got insanely richer, and this has all contributed to enough factors with AI to now justify the total destruction of the consumer technology markets, to prepare for panopticon and eventual extermination of the non-billionaire and millionaire classes.

2030 will have things very clear as to what kind of new world we're in.

Maybe ten years ago I would have called you insane--but if you just look around it's all happening so fast. If you've been alive long enough you can feel it, just in the way people act.
Not to put woo on it, but you can see the major corporations using their power to gear the world into a Brave New World, with constant access to every form of dopamine drip necessary to keep people quiet and submissive.

>>733173021
Used to be you didn't have to act as though the entire world was watching you, you just had to worry about the people in your town. People were allowed to develop outside of the monoculture and distinct microcultures grew.
You didn't have to hold yourself up to some borderline eugenic online ubermensch ideal.
Maybe something worth looking into is the submission of the superego to the greater social consciousness.

Kinda, but what I'm talking about is a bit more nuanced than that. It's kind of hard to explain, but I'll try.
For me, the internet is just this thing I mess around on. It's a big part of my life, I mean, I am shitposting here most days. However, it's something I can just disengage from. It's not important to me. If nobody responds to my posts, I won't lose sleep. If there is some hot news, it can wait until tomorrow. Basically, I can keep it separate from reality.
For a lot of people, especially the younger crowd that were born with a tablet in hand, they cannot disconnect. For them, their facebook/discord/whatever, is neigh omnipresent. It's almost as if they are physically stuck in the room with it, and must respond. It's extremely important to their lives.
If I'm watching a movie or really into a game and my phone rings or I get a message, I'll ignore it until I'm done, because I'll get to it later. It's not important. If they hear the phone ring even if they are doing something important, they'll want to answer. They must maintain their online image. It's that kind of difference.
Thank you for reading my blog.

>"terror that extends to everywhere"
People are so clueless these days that they don't realize this says more about them than it does about the internet.
The internet isn't everywhere, your smartphone is. If you think that's a problem, then don't use a smartphone outside your home. Use one of those old Nokia phones, they still work and you can call and talk to people if you really need to.
The Internet doesn't get into your head against your will. If you're seeing the Internet everywhere, it's because you're picking up your fucking smartphone everywhere, like a fat addict who can't go two hours without eating something full of sugar.

>>733173359
>Maybe ten years ago I would have called you insane
That's exactly it, it genuinely wasn't a threat 10 years ago. But technology had a quiet huge leap in that time, and now we have super drones, cheap quality cameras fucking everywhere, AI capable of doing extreme spying with pattern recognition (which makes it so much faster since humans don't need to do the slow sorting), a hard erosion of respect for privacy (we NEED to protect the children by spying on them so we can rape them when we want), smartphones with spy cams and mics in everyone's pocket, and cheap global GPS and tracking of everywhere you go. Like 20 different technologies and conditions matured at the same time, and once AI is perfected for spying, you'll have AI drones following you everywhere and collating all human behavior.

What kind of work are you talking about that literally destroys the body?
I think the only thing remotely close to that in civilized societies is professional sports.
I worked on a construction site in a third world country for a year, and even though it was very tiring, I was healthier physically back then than I am now, working in front of a computer all day. I've gained 15 kilos and now I get tired quickly. The office has been more harmful to my body than the fucking construction site job, lol.

Tradies are valued for sure, but actually getting into a trade is ridiculously difficult unless you have a family friend willing to take you on as an apprentice. The vast majority of places won't take on an apprentice with no experience unless they work as a min wage temp laborer competing with 30 other guys for a single apprentice spot - and that's if they're willing to take on anyone at all which they usually aren't because it creates direct competition eventually

Because kids could go outside and fuck around and go do stuff to be out of the house? Because we had public spaces and more community to let something like that happen? Kids have nowhere to go now that won't see cops trying to hurt them or perverts trying to rape them. Because as an apartment kid in the 90s I was able to go out and play. There were arcades, malls, I was going to the corner store and playground down the block alone at six years old. I could go out with friends for almost the entire day and as long as I was back for dinner and told my parents where I was going, they would have no problem with it and neither would anyone else.

Nowadays? There are no spaces for kids to exist without adults, there are few arcades and the ones that do exist are expensive novelties for adults, kids and teens are banned from the local mall when unsupervised, and you get CPS called on you for letting your kid walk around unsupervised outside even if it's just a corner store down the block or a playground 15 minutes walking away. Being a kid in a small space was shit but it was tolerable before because there were third spaces that didn't either make you spend an ass load of money or outright ban children from existing in the vicinity. Now it's shit for both kids and parents, neither are allowed any respite.

The death of third spaces has had a really powerful and bad impact on society and culture, and it's part of the alienation making everyone ready to go insane with paranoid killing intent. We can't fucking connect as humans anymore without it being incredibly dangerous to do so, and the internet encourages us to be constantly addicted to the hormonal sensation of getting REALLY FUCKING ANGRY, ALL THE TIME. There's no way to escape constant overstimulation and feelings of danger without disconnecting, which just hurts you as you stay in isolation as an animal that needs socialization to be sane.
>>
>>733177362
I mean yeah. That's a significant part of it. But in any case, it changes the playing field to where having kids isn't as desirable anymore. We've been pigeonholed into a world now where children aren't allowed to be anything but an iPad kid because there's nothing else they're allowed to do besides use the internet, watch TV, or play video games indoors unless one parent has infinite time and can accompany them around everywhere all day.

It still could be, but it would require people working together to make those changes and break away from over a decade of corporate profiteering from data mining, institute proper privacy laws we envisioned 30 years ago, and make other changes interacting with each other.

That's some of the problem. Even if you or I started just acting like it was the old days, that doesn't mean all the normalfags will have no effect on you. We already see what content gets censored in games for fear of that, and more. Think about it as a 40K metaphor (I'd stick to the Imperium but Aeldari and Necrons also kinda work depending). In the old days, to get online you sort of had to become a Sanctioned Psyker. Not everyone was equally knowledgable or powerful, aside from "named Living Saints of /g/ like Stallman or Torvalds, there were Custodes and Gray Knights who predated Eternal Summer and/or the Web, the various Librarians , Inquisitors , Rogue Traders, Navigators , Astropaths etc.. You HAD to go through a degree of "tempering' to get online. Sure, every so often one would fall to chaos or there would be some unsanctioned moron letting the door to the daemon worlds open, and we had to clean shit up. So proceeded the Great Crusade until the last years of the 2000s...

Then came the Heresy, where the Ruinous Powers convinced a handful of corruptible overlords that they could profit greatly by compromising the seals and just turning any old random normalfag into an unsanctioned psyker for the benefit of data mining and social media. Now, we have Chaos reigning rampant through all of their phones and tendrils sprouting from their minds; even this place was not untouched - I don't think anyone has to doubt /pol/ and the tourist influx, but that came later. In any event, the average normalfag is one step away from being a chaos spawn - it only depends if its going to have a blue side shave undercut or millions-must-die T-shirt as it comes out of the porta

we can't go back even with a concerted effort because we're now way too far into corporations and governments having mandated internet use to be able to participate in society, which means it's now too enmeshed into our entire global way of life to stop it without catastrophic repercussions

we are now in the "wait until the break point with mass death and collapse of all we know" stage

There are a lot of regulations that manufacturers have to follow that make cars more expensive. A car modeled after those from the 1970s would be considered illegal to manufacture in all civilized countries today. Fuck, it was only in 1966 that seat belts became mandatory in cars...

>THEY WORKED FOR THEMSELVES RETARD
Ford, in his book "The International Jew", says that Jewish immigrants to the US preferred to work for less money in family businesses than to work as employees of Americans.
I think the reverse of this philosophy of life will start to happen now. Americans, realizing that they live in a Zionist country subverted by Jews, will begin to prefer to leave the system and earn less, but not submit to the dominant Jewish order. They don't have children anyway, and a man without children doesn't need much to survive.

I got into an argument with the manager of the jewelry store where I was attempting to buy my wife some earrings for Valentine's Day. They were dead-set that I couldn't make a purchase without giving them my phone number or my email. Once I managed to get them to admit that they don't actually need either of those, they stated that I could do the purchase fine but I wouldn't be able to do an exchange or return without it, to which I asked them to point out the federal or state law which requires it as a receipt is all that would be required (provided I returned to the same store location) and after another five minutes he relented and simply stated it was their software that requires it, not that they actually "need" it. I ended up buying them elsewhere but damn.

I don't think that's accurate. Internet usage and the convenience of technology is fine - we COULD have both without it being a shitshow. That was the dream, of those of us who predated all of this. People thought they'd get their robot waifu without said robot giving all of their data to its manufacturer so it could see how many times a week you eat corn flakes and market to you etc.

All we need are laws against HOW the data is used and who's allowed to do what with it, along with what is private. This isn't 'governments' - I mean, normally they're the one place you can go and deal with shit in paper if you wish to waste your time , its corporate overlords and convenience that have wrapped their demands into everything,. We could stop the bad parts and retain the good - we could change the way we interact with each other just how it got here that way. All the stuff about someone saying X on social media and now their life is ruined or whatever because a crusade of people who think X is problematic message their boss and call you a nazi/tranny whatever etc.. was not some hardcoded part of society. We could go back to
>Uh i'm not going to fire my employee for no reason on the advice of an online mob who seems very upset
but that requires corporate overlords to be choked into submission instead of thinking that anything that will make them one cent of greater profit is their fiduciary duty and everyone else and all of society can die so that the line on the capitalism-o-meter goes up another tic.

These have grown into big problems and band-aid fixes aren't enough but they are fixable without somehow ending society - but its a big vested interest by some to assume that isn't possible.

Bud, there is a non-zero chance that your kids aren't going to be into anything you're enthusiastically into. If I had to wager a guess, I'd say 80% chance. That said, I got one of these for the oldest, and the oldest hated it and never wanted to sleep in it, meanwhile I thought it was rad and liked bunk beds when I was a kid and would have loved to have a bed with a desk under it. Needless to say, I got rid of it and died inside a little. What I'm trying to say, anon, is that they are their own people and will disappoint you in so many ways unless you accept that they are different people with different interests. They won't appreciate the things you get for them that you always wanted. You're really just buying it for you. The only exception to this is video games. So don't waste money on cool furniture and shit that you think is cool that you want them to like. Use it to build them their own pc's and a giant side-by-side diy desks from ikea and game with them. Bonus points, you can have bros over and do lan-game sessions or team up sitting next to each other.

I will be building pc #4 soon, and will have 4 pc's side-by-side in a giant long desk.

PS - have conversations with hot chicks about wanting to raise kids, it triggers something in their brain, you gotta commit though and get started asap, no lollygaggin around for 7 years with finances. Easier to raise em while you're still younger.

We've known for a long time that workers today are more productive than ever, even for the same amount of time and effort (ie its not all people working into 'work death' karoshi like boomtime Japanese fathers of 22 hour workdays), but all that profit all that growth, is going to those sitting at the top.

and tards wonder why there's a big vested interest to call anyone who points this out an evil socialist and connect them to something like trannies. You work harder, they laugh, you fight each other for crumbs, they laugh harder the more they take from you.

Retard, this "paper" has real value that you can exchange for real services and goods. The only way this paper can become worthless is if inflation removes all its value, so the least you should do is invest part of your money in things that yield at least the same as inflation. If you do this, it doesn't matter if you have money as "paper" and not pieces of some arbitrary metal, your assets are secure, at least if the country you are in is stable, such as the USA, for example.

It's only as valuable as the paper it is printed on. Even the numbers in your bank account is fake. It's literally backed by nothing. That's even more proof we work for free.

We're more productive by just about every metric including GDP -the thing is who gets the benefit of that production leads to what you're talking about. We're tired because we're being exploited, and those at the top are taking a bigger and bigger piece, leaving us with lesser amounts and told to be happy about it. People are getting sick of it and rightly so. The problem is who they get sick at and if they are going to realize their problem is the people who are complaining about socialism or whatever other buzzwords and hoping they fight each other for the scraps.

I'm not taking a hard anti-AI stance here but I genuinely don't understand what I am supposed to get out of it. >we need to go back to a barter system
Bartering is too inefficient. If the person who has something you want doesn't want anything you have to offer, you'll have to find a third party to complete the transaction.
Money is the perfect invention to deal with this problem. Now there is a standard thing that everyone can accept, knowing that everyone else will accept it too.
The real problem is that someone will need to control the creation of money, and whoever is in this role will have a wide range of ways to take advantage of this power for their own benefit.

No we're not. The GDP is kept up only by service industry and big tech. Neither is productivity. One is effectively people working to keep people entertained. The other is made to try to control us as much as possible.

There is nothing productive about our output. We're actually very stagnant in innovation since the removal of the gold standard. Nay, even when the central bank was enacted in 1913. We're operating at zero productivity if you look at it for what it is.

>>
>>733180785
How? Why are so many people paying for services if they're worthless? Do you even understand what "services" means? Because it sounds like you don't actually understand what that definition covers.
>>
>>733180608
it's expensive here too, why do you think boomers are constantly (correctly) telling dipshit zoomers to stop ordering food all the time

Swiping is exactly the same as those boomers who blow all their money on slots. You keep swiping because the next clip might be a big dopamine hit. Infinite scrolling should unironically be illegal.

>left and right speakers both on the right side
why tho
>>
>>733180262
But this example doesn't make sense. Things can be expensive in a barter system too, it works exactly like money, except that it's less efficient.
If someone wants 50 pieces of cheese in exchange for 100ml of honey, they won't suddenly accept 1 liter of milk, they'll want even more milk, because honey is extremely valuable in this economy.
Money also makes services more viable. Imagine you're a musician and every single person who comes to see your show decides to bring a piece of cheese. Now you've finished playing your music and you have to find a way to transport two hundred pieces of cheese to your house.

I don't get how people do it with their volume blaring, I went to the dentist the other day and there was this 50 year old man just scrolling on his phone with it just blasting throughout the entire wait room and you could tell it was the most brain rot tier content in existence.
zero shame or fucks given I couldn't stop laughing

You give the cheese to someone who can do that for you. Or alternatively, trade that cheese to someone who will it take it and you get something else.

No, because that statement is retarded. You still refuse to explain to me what you think a "service" means and I have no choice but to assume that's because you don't actually know.

I mean, I do that on work PC when I'm in the office (or at least during work hours only if I work remotely). I don't have a company phone and don't give out my private one for work purposes.
If you don't work at a shit company in most "laptop jobs" you aren't really expected to check your email outside of work hours and responding to teams messages in a timely manner while on the clock is quite a bit different from using social media or being extremely online and most of your social life being a discord server so you feel pressured to keep up with it or something.

Yes, economies change. If your entire economy is built on the minerals in the ground and a complete group of dullards being controlled to mine to get it, that's not great for your long term prospects. Even the oil sheiks know this which is why they're diversifying the Emirates, Riyad, and Qatar so the moment the entire universe doesn't run on oil they basically go back to riding camels in the desert. We're one of the largest economies in the world and you can't say that it 'doesn't count' - hell, exporting of culture through Hollywood over the past century is probably one of the biggest industries of its kind and had global reach even when people were flying in biplanes. Productivity does not mean "I like it" or "big men with hammers turning shit into a refined block of shit to buy".

>Gold standard
There is no sanity down this direction. Many of the greatest economic booms post-WWII were once we were off the standard (note that many of its best elements of the standard were actually because since Bretton Woods it was demanding a US DOLLAR standard for gold and much like the Petrodollar the US benefited because it was our currency, not because the idea of a metal backed reserve currency itself was the best idea) and many of its ills, such as the increasing shitshow of deregulation from Nixon's era and forward, were from other reasons. Magically going back on the gold standard would not fix these problems and would likely make things much worse; its a policy that at its best was a century out of date, and doesn't fix all the new problems we have because of course it couldn't. We need to be looking forward as even globalized neoliberal capitalism is failing and if you don't want whatever sort of "eat the bugs' cyberpunk future, then looking forward to a more equitable distribution of the results of production is the way to go no matter what is being made

>>733181265
Yeah, and now you're going to spend more time looking for people interested in cheese than playing music. And you need to do it quickly because the cheese will spoil if it's stored improperly. Bartering is extremely inefficient, which is why no civilization really used it.
Civilizations that did not invent money, such as the Incas, became dystopian nightmares where everything had to be planned by the state, otherwise things simply would not work. Pure bartering would not be efficient enough for an economy that needed to support millions of people to function.
Contrary to what hippies and leftists say, money as an invention is a good thing. The problem, as I said, is that with the pros come the cons. Money is extremely good for making the economy more efficient, but it can also cause enormous disasters if it stops working properly due to poor management or pure bad luck. There are also people who understand the power of money better than others and use it for control purposes.

Productivity means prices go down and life quality goes up. It's the opposite for us.

>There is no sanity down this direction.

The actual solution is the dissolution of the Federal Reserve, and returning to bank notes with a mix of crypto for faster trading.

The free market took care of this. We only went to coin cause we had to start trading with other countries. It's funny how we have to start using globalist payment methods the more globalist a society becomes.

>>733182209
But it's inefficient. No matter how fast you are, and how free your market is, it's harder to store and transport cheese than it is to store and transport small copper coins with the emperor's face on them. Not everyone is interested in cheese and if you're unlucky and the village mystic has decided that cheese brings bad luck, you'll probably have to throw your cheese into the river, and you'll have to do it quickly before something bad happens in the village and the villagers blame your cheese and stone you.
Money solves all this problems...

It;s only inefficient to money maxxing merchants. The only people against the barter system were the merchants who wanted to steal from people's trades. It works fine among a civil society. In a community, money was in the form of favors, and also based on your rank. The barter system is the most effective system for humans.

When coins get involved, you're just asking to have your labor devalued. Which is why BTC is actually a revolution to currency. The bank should have been using it since its invention. It solves all financial problems.
