Kite was pretty cool.>Vol.3>Run into Cubia. Lios is secretly watching and also sees Cubia for the first time.>Despite the life-threatening situation, Kite noticed Lios' presence and took note of it. >Later, Lios gets sick of Helba constantly calling him a pig-head.>Kite: "Okay, then prove you're not a pig-head." >At this point, he's gotten sick of Lios and Helba's bickering and decided to force Lios' cooperation.>Lios bluffs and tells Kite to defeat a Virus Bug without using Data Drain, and only then would he consider cooperating. Kite calls the bluff, thought BlackRose isn't convinced.>Kite defeats the Virus Bug without Data Drain, forcing Lios to admit defeat. He reveals to BlackRose that he knew Lios was bluffing the whole time. He also reveals that he knew Lios was spying on them during the previous fight with Cubia.>Lios, thoroughly defeated, is forced to accept Kite's terms.Kite is a pretty blatant power fantasy in different way from Haseo. But personally, I do think this was sort of necessary. They needed to showcase just why Kite was qualified to be the leader, and not just coasting on the power of the bracelet. Him decisively choosing to destroy the bracelet while fighting Cubia for the final time was also part of it. It showed that Kite was someone capable of weighing his options and make necessary sacrifices to keep his party alive, and it also clearly showcased that his worth wasn't tied to a magic bracelet, that he didn't need Data Drain to be a hero.

>>733341197Elk is an asshole. I gave him an aromatic grass once and he didn't even care.
>>733341274It was necessary. They couldn't defeat Cubia directly and they had no other options. If they fell into comas, then all hope was lost either way. From a narrative standpoint, the entire reason, the ONLY reason that Cubia actually exists is for there to be an enemy that can't be defeated with Data Drain. Its only purpose is to force Kite to destroy the bracelet.

Wavemasters were masters of both offensive, supportive and healing magic, but these roles were split across different classes in R:2. Macabre Dancer is a support class, but it was better than Shadow Warlocks at healing and better than Harvest Clerics at damage.>Out of all the classes in R:2, Adept Rogues are actually the closest to Twin Blades in R:1. In R:1, Twin Blade was a jack-of-all-trades class, being equally good at both physical attacks and magic. Twin Blades in R:2 are just speedy, but aren't particularly good at magic. Adept Rogues were worse at magic at the dedicated mage classes, but better than every other class.

>>733340772It is a really sweet song.
>>733343045Adept Rogue was OP because of the weapon swapping. They tried to "balance" it by denying Adept Rogues specialized growth and the "ultimate" moves of other classes but that ultimately did just make them better than everyone else.Their supposed balanced stat line ultimately made them dish out more damage that something that's weak but fast and tank more hits than something that's fragile but does lots of damage.Thankfully, this was balanced in G.U. by the fact that this only applied to Haseo and the Adept Rogue companions we got were just objectively weaker and had less skills to work with because they would literally never swap classes.
>>733342919She doesnt get deleted because of R:1 shutting downCCorp tracks her down and kills her after Quarantine for her Phase dataThen her leftover data fragments persist and fuse to Endrance's Player Character in R:2
>>733343419swap weapons*
>>733343419Nah, there were a few silly oversights. In terms of how G.U. balanced characters, Haseo as an Adept Rogue was just objectively better than Twin Blades. There were no differences in basic animation speed, so Haseo moved just as fast as a Twin Blade character while also hitting harder and being tankier and being better at magic. Also, starting from Vol.2, Haseo got updated animations for Twin Blades, but the actual Twin Blade characters like Alkaid just kept using Vol.1 animations.

>>733343821Adept Rogues were unironically the objectively best PvE class, even if you ignore G.U.'s Haseo-centric balancing. Every enemy was weak against a certain type of weapon. Armored enemies were weak to Edge Punisher, flying enemies were weak to Twin Blade. Adept Rogue was the ONLY class that could take advantage of every enemy weakness. Even if lorewise they were worse at PvP, it's impossible for them to be anything but the absolute best at PvE based on how enemies were balanced.

Just gonna make a quick guide to get into IMOQ for newcomers:>Infection is the hardest game to get into due to the weapons not having many abilities yet>Kite will mainly play the role of healer in infection>prioritize weapons with elemental skills>atk power and physical attacks>try and spread out different elemental attacks among party members so that you're more likely to be prepared for dungeons>STOCK UP ON ANTIDOTES!!! Mimics can kill your run in the most frustrating way if you are unprepared >get comfortable in menus and learn to give your party members commands as early as possible. This plays, in a way, similar to FFXII than a standard ARPG. Your goal is to kill enemies as fast as possible with the right skills via your various party members>learn type weaknesses asap>READ THE CORE GUIDE unless you don't mind progress being locked behind rng drops. some people don't mind this, a majority of people I've talked to do>embrace trading and learn it early. Trading is broken and you can usually start later entries with end game or close to end game gear>test dungeons. go in, see the types, then back out, warp out, re-equip with the type weaknesses, and go back inposted it a couple times, but here's an audio on my breakdown of the series as well as some tips if you are interested. It's a series that I'm always glad I played through, but it's not necessarily fun:https://files.catbox.moe/gap3qd.mp3>>733343289That is one heck of a face. Really hoping they can make the miracle happen.
>>733343827Not really. Having to pause combat and use menus to use any ability slowed down the game. The later volumes get grindy for data cores where you have to look up which keywords spawns small enemies so you can get the right data core. Using data drain too much can cause a game over based on chance. Each game is pretty short if you get the level and equipment grinding out of the way. There was no reason to sell you the game four times, they could have fit everything on one disc. No, selling you a short 15 minute anime didn't make up for it.I can sort of excuse GU since there are actual cutscenes, three games versus four, and there's a modern port to play now.
>>733344602Shut up, turbo weeb. Nobody cares.

>>733344641I really do hope they don't do Episodic with this game. Put out a 60 to 80 hour game and call it, if the game does well then do a full sequel.Don't try to sell me the game divided into 20-30 hour chunks because that shit just don't fly now. Trying to figure out the quickest way to beat and encounter in IMOQ was one of the major good things about those games and it always felt satisfying when several characters attacks lined up with a big enemies weakness. In GU the moment you learn about guard or dash cancelling, you are going to be juggling every encounter till the end of the game and, even though you can access your party memebers attacks, there are 0 reasons to use them... They overdramatized so much of the MMO aspects where in IMOQ it feels relatively grounded, but Sign sorta did that too so it's sort of hard to fault it for that completely. Still, it's hard to take the whole pker/pkker element too seriously. if you read the external posts in the forums about it, I have a feeling most of us would be mocking the anti-pk crowd ruthlessly.

Thankfully, our character were tightly packed behind the flipped up table and he couldn't see us. Dude was max level and I was like level 20 or something. Haseo should beat him up.>>733347613What's funny is the forum posts in GU sound almost exactly like the kind of posts you see places like reset era or reddit making today begging for easy or pve only modes (including the down to earth people entering and telling people they don't understand how that would ruin the experience). One thing CC2 always was good at was calling the near future and making very believable internet conversations. Also, that's a wild story. Always sad I didn't have the money to play WoW back in the day. I desperately wanted to, but I was on a toaster and I couldn't keep up with the monthly fee. Years later I finally gave it a try, but that was after nu-blizzard had done their damage and the game was all but empty.
>>733347698>Buttrice has arrived.PRAISED AND SAVED THREAD
GU's biggest fucking hater here, gonna try to play it for the 6th time. Hopefully i have a decent perspective finally.
>>733347816.......... there's a parody mode in the japanese copies.... no anon... don't activate my completionist autism... I can not go back to that hell....
>>733347912Have fun bro.
>>733347912eh... where as IMOQ there's some tips I could share to make it fun, with GU it's just to not learn how to cancel attacks. The moment you do any semblance of difficulty for the rest of the game goes out the window and it becomes an okay VN/Anime Movie with long stretches of "press x to win"The tacked on card game is sorta fun tho.
>>733347654I'll take your word for it and go that route then.
the .hack earliest games are time capsules for how we used to speak on the internet when it was all geeks

>>733347994also, if you are playing the pc remaster, see if there's any difficulty mods to make the enemies more aggressive. >>733348035That's a wise decision. Here are some quick tips before you jump in: >>733344634if you like very basic old school dungeon crawlers and PSO, you should have an alright time.
going to play G.U. for the first time. should i just emulate the ps2 games? i heard the remaster is too easy, and from what i have seen there isn't a mod that truly restores the difficulty to that of the original game's. it would be nice playing with the enhanced graphics and QoL improvements, but i hate when games are mind numbingly easy.
>>733347891I've PKed myself in various games but it's never been my passion. Player vs Player doesn't hold the same appeal to me as fighting giant monsters, gods, dragons, and the like. That event though really showed me the appeals of PK. Grabbing some friends and raining hell down on unsuspecting victims, sneaking around, hell trying to SURVIVE has its own appeals. The part I left out about that story was the best part too. I totally forgot. The person hiding with me had no idea I was behind the table and was looking for a spot to hide. I told them to get down so they could hide but their dumb ass didn't even know how to use emotes so I had to quickly whisper to them how to use /sit.The PKer came rushing over just as they managed to sit down behind the table. It was so stressful dude.I was so worried this player would get me caught or the pker would use an AoE attack/spell to try to flush anybody hidden out.PKing is a great mechanic and absolutely deserves to be in MMOs.
Alright goodnight fellas and fellettes.
so will there be an imoq remaster?

>>733348264I still have it but the greys are no longer able to be ignored.
>>733348067probably. I know more than once when reading through the forums did some old online speak make me nostalgic. >>733348219>that tripL O L>>733348146Man, I really missed out, but I'll just be happy I was able to be there for some old arena shooters and CS 1.6. It's wild how different online conversations used to be on those. Still, with experiences like that I can see why people are so desperate to hold onto the game even though it's no doubt a pale imitation now. >>733348231I wonder if they've lost the assets and code for it. >>733348269Ah, it's just a very basic arpg format that easily fit into an mmo. The game took notes from that one.
>>73334826431 with pair of blue cubias cause' of Morganna/evil Aura, reporting.
>>73334826433 reporting in
>>733348409>it's no doubt a pale imitation now.You can say that again.Anyway, I really hope they keep some of the campiness from the old games but also incorporate some normal people as PKers to act as the straight men to the DERANGED lunatics. It'd be really funny having normal people react to the slavering lunatics with "Dude, relax. It's just a game." only for them to get all huffy about it lol
>>733346486You lose all your items and EXP that you get on the field when you get PKed since even though The World is an MMO it still operates with a save point system with no auto saves. Also there's no reward for PKing another player other than personal satisfaction, so you come off as a psycho for doing it.
>>73334826435Hairline is good but tops thinning out a bit.
So what happened to the player character Kite? Did he just get a job irl and drop The World or what?I'm not going to play GU.
>>73334826434 here, hair is fine.
>>733348613He's Cristiano Ronaldo now.
>>733348613Pretty much that. There's tidbits about him and Black Rose being an item outside of the World but nothing concrete. He works at CCCorp with Piros.
>>73334826435. I had a Vegeta tier hairline at like 14, there was never any hope for me. On the plus side it got me to work out since everyone thought I had cancer after I shaved it since I was a pale skinny faggot.

>>733348676Fellow 35 and /fit/ bro.Though I'm more /out/ and skateboarding myself, but it beats the fat shut in I was in my 20's.
>>733348552You still get EXP for it and it's a great chance to be opportunistic. When a player is in a battle, there's a giant blue circle screaming "I'm in a battle and thus vulnerable!" so I can see why PKers would go after them.I'm also not sure there's much in the way of lore on PKing in general since it was used as a convenient "These are bad people!!!" sticker
>>73334826439I have to cut my hair often otherwise I start to look like picrel. My dad still had all his hair in his 70s, so I'm not worried about it.
>>733348676Good job, Anon. Now tan your skin to be like Yata.
>>733348675>>733348684Seems like an appropriate end for him. He was mainly just playing to help his dumb friend.
>>733348754I'm not the oldest one here... thank God. I'm the oldest of my brothers, oldest of my friend group, and sometimes I feel like I'm becoming one of the oldest on here.
>>733348684He really liked soccer tho. Too Bad.
>>733348774Eyup. As an aside, I really liked the motivation Kite had. As a kid whose friend just got coma'd in a video game, I feel like most of us that age would have done the exact same thing. It's an oddly believable setup wether they meant it to be or not.

>>733349118His email chain was one of my favorite in the game. The way you slowly piece together who he is irl was fun.>>733349123There's so much additional material that retcons others, it's really hard to say. Haseo's is almost as bad as there's a whole radio drama that was canon for years, then part 4 happens and doesn't seem to take it much into consideration but doesn't outright conflict with it. >>733349198No... So after browsing these last .hack threads... Do you guys hate G.U. or something? Is there some Dark Souls 1/3 vs 2 thing going on? IMOQ gets talked about a lot or maybe I'm the one focusing to much on it, I don't know.
If it doesn't have Anno's art then it ain't dot hack. Sorry but I'll pass on this.
