That doesn't mean that the product can be gradually reduced in quality (a la iphones and pokemon, per your examples) and have its rabid fanbase continue to swallow everything that is shat out in the process. It's called "indoctrination" and those two particular companies have become masters in it. Brand loyalty is the only thing keeping them afloat, and they know it, so they try to be chic and in with the times or trendsetters while paradoxically being as safe as possible to keep the number going up.
