I've always felt Dragon Quest's inability to attain western success on par with its reputation in Japan boils down to one simple factorThe series was literally conceived to be a simplified, beginner friendly replication of RPGs Yuji Horii enjoyed playingIt's novel to the Japanese sure but does something like that mean anything to a country that's long already since played tabletop?

I liked 8. I tired 9 but couldn't get into it. I played some of the older games but didn't like that I couldn't see my character in combat.

Currently playing dragon quest vii r and not enjoying it. Can't wait to 100% it then throw it in the trash forever. I just found out like 10 items are exclusive to the shitty card game in it so I'll have to waste hours of my life playing it to collect every item. Shit sucks.

>>733564021I loved Journey of the Cursed King when i played it on Playstation 2 but never got around to the others. Do they stack up in comparison? I think a secondary reason i found it so appealing at the time is because they made all the voice actors sound intentionally British as possible and it felt like i was watching a Saturday morning cartoon or something. Journey of the Cursed King is the best JRPG ever and i will say that without a shred of doubt. It's my favorite jrpg of all time.
