Tried out What Awaits, Aleksey, I enjoyed it. It took some inspiration from Papers Please but it's focused on using the tools as a investigation kind of thing.
Just be warned, there is a time limit in the day though you don't seem to get punished for it since new evidence gets added the next day. First mystery isn't too hard to solve though.
>>
Nights of Nil would be better if it was a regular "give orders to npcs" type of settlement builder game instead of always having to control at least one. I get that it's supposed to be the gimmick of the game but it drags it down since the combat is way too shallow and there's nothing to do while your wokers do their things and you don't have a proper way to look what they're doing without constantly switching playable characters.

Here's all the good Survival Horror and Detective Games so far:

Parasite Mutant

Code 9

Brian Lefebvre and the Vow of Hate

Connected Clue

Heavy Metal Death Can

The posthumous investigation

Vultures Scavengers of Death

What Awaits Aleksey

Ivayami Cradle of Fog - No one is talking about this one, what gives? Now that Dolltown has failed, it's our new Silent Hill standard bearer.

SideEye High

Angel's Devil Tail 2

304 Seconds

The Last Wizard: Goblin Detective

Hollow Stories: Lockdown

On Air: Taxi Detective Casebook

Big Hollow 1982
Survival Horror and actual detective braingamess are the only genres that matter. Well, and anime I suppose.

True, I want to like this game but movement is little weird to me. Interestingly enough, Cicadamata did not give me nearly as much eye strain. I think it's down to the fact that the majority of the background is already very bright, while in Firestarters it's a brown arena, so it's much more bright-dark veriation heavy than Cicadamata.

Update from previous thread
The goddamn asian programmers did it again, they did not use "culture invariant" option when dealing with semicolons and shit, resulting in instant crash in Mecha Force.
If you have this problem, just swap your regional data setting to Burger, and it works.
Sheesh
Had to persuade Robo Girl's Dream to fix this in his own demo last time. Why all westerners and even jeets get that, but east asian devs do not?

AAA games are sort of garbage. Most people will agree with this, around here. But very few people do anything about it. I spend all my time in the indie realm these days. And maybe they suck, sometimes, but I don't expect them to be some perfect paragon anyway. Taking Resident Evil's new price point as an example, for $95, I could acquire ten indie games at ten dollars a piece, if they even cost that much. I could probably get 20 if I really tried min-maxing.

All AAA games theoretically have over indies is the ability to theoretically create very immersive worlds that solo developers don't have time to. But they tend to fail at that. Graphics have plateaued and indies are closing the gap immensely. Take Fear the Timeloop, for example. I'm sure some autist could point out all the graphical differences between it and RE2remake. But it's close enough that it doesn't really matter much.

Sword Hero is making an attempt at the immersive world thing like AAA devs used to make. Who knows? Maybe he'll succeed now that he's almost got his $400,000 which is way more than he expected to get. I didn't bother to fund because it was clear he didn't really need any extra money. I only go with kickstarters that have some doubt about success. No use risking money when it's a done deal anyway.

It has a demo btw.

Managed to convince a friend to play it with me and it was actually not bad for a co-op game, playing solo is way more difficult. It's fun grapple-hooking an enemy and swinging around them to find an opening to their weak points.
Kind of janky though, the lobby system doesn't seem to work if you set a password, and there's weird oddities with the UI in general. Might keep an eye on it

>Town of Zoz
Looks gorgeous but I found it way too tedious. The farming aspects might be cool but by the time I got that far I was pretty over it. Imagine wanting to play Stardew, but you can't do any farming till you've cleared the 1st section of the mines.

>Deep Dish Dungeon.
Cool level design, puzzles, atmosphere and aesthetics, but I was utterly dumbfounded at how little focus the cooking aspect actually seems to have. Was bitterly disappointed that I couldn't harvest defeated enemies for ingredients - I had thought that was the whole hook of the game.

>Airframe Ultra
I really wanted to like this but just hated how floaty everything felt, not for me.

Baited by the trailer, none of the planet exploration is implemented in the demo. The interstellar travel is pretty cool, the game takes the characters age into consideration when traveling several light years, but it seems like a linear story game rather than a sim.

These caught my eye. Denshattack is the most engaging. CALX is gorgeous but a bit awkward, still would give it more of a chance later. Armatus is phenomenal but I've hardly played any roguelike shooters - doesn't seem like it does anything "new" as far as the genre goes.

>Bobo Bay
Straight up SA2 chao garden ripoff as a full game. Scavenging for money/fruit's kind of boring, consisting of just a few tiny random islands with fruit and boxes to open (Though the full game seems to promise this gets expanded with new areas and more stuff to do). Competitions are also really tough, I kept getting high level stuff when all I have are babies, I only won 3 times for the entire demo. Also releases pretty soon. wishlisted, I need more of this and SEGA seemingly despises chao.

Kino. onrails Skate but on a train with MGR-tier absurdity going on. wishlisted
>Sushi Derby
pet racing game where you buy and train living sushi. Sorta fun, but you're expected to constantly rotate sushi because they have "freshness" which lowers stats every day. Needing to constantly rotate means there isn't much depth in terms of building your pet
>airframe ultra
race+brawler where you race to an arena, beat the shit out of eachother, then hop back on the bikes and repeat until someone reaches the point limit. Really fun but I suck at it. Also needs an offline mode
>Sakura Arms
Played this a lot on TTS with friends and it's great seeing this get its own release, it's adapted really well. The demo's online only but there seems to be offline modes locked on the main menu, including the tutorial. Indeed, you're gonna have to go read the rulebook first to play this one. Weird choice.

Guys who dump lists please add at least a little about the game beyond the fucking name

a: operation eventide - a true indie vn that has soul and fun art, dark vn about magic girl killed and brought back as robot

b: sakura arms - fun 1v1 card game based on a board game
ghost roomate - surprinsgly charming and hot vn

c. ace strategy - very bland, felt super rough around the edges, deckbuilders already crowded

d. soul trigger - combat takes way too long, and 'card based' doesnt feel goo here
ashes of sigularity - too much stuff is going on, way too many resources and buildings happening at once, very bad ui glitches too
preledomena - didn't hook me, typical 'meta' story

It feels like you're supposed to manage boost carefully like f-zero? But then you need to burn a ton to hit hyperspeed, and you can't keep that up forever and drifts/lunges don't do nearly enough to keep you close to top speed while you build up gauge again. Maybe you're supposed to have good routing to collect crystals faster?

The longer you play MZD, the less ambushes become instrumental and more alpha striking with pure DPS becomes.

That's a first complaint for this one. I get that it is more of a VN than a game, but there's like one character I'd understand your complaint about gender.

My guess is just the usual bad MTL and zero proofreading. Maybe things are less confusing in the other translations.
I just assumed the Warrior was a dude (because he talks about his ex-fiancée and quickly decided to monetize his curse), Priest was a dude (he has that "guy that strangles (you) for shits and giggles in otome games" look), Mage was a girl (because I'm not gay), the Hero was a girl (too retarded and too cute to be a dude), Solo Leveling Man was a dude (because the joke is too obvious), the Twins were boy and girl and the Witch was a girl (she is the Warrior's ex-fiancée).

>~55 minutes of gameplay
>~30 minutes of dialogues (and a bit of walking'n'jumping between NPC A and NPC B)
It's not THAT bad but some "walking and talking" moments are quite long (that webm is ~10 minutes long).
>>
>>733864435
I don't have that big an issue with it as the game clearly is structured with a "cooldown" between levels as you have a hub, shop, and home base that presumably grows in features and the dialog is mostly placed before you go anywhere or at the end of levels/sequences.
>>
>>733839246
Graphics plateaued solely in the realm of textures and polygons. There's a lot else around they can use that they refuse to do because AAA is almost guaranteed the safest slop there is. Some exceptions exist but they're few and far between. The new Resident Evil is not one of them.

For an example of other areas AAA could work on, what hasn't begun to plateau is animation, but the amount of games that put a serious level of effort into that is ridiculously low. The one area where AAA can effortlessly clobber indies and you get nothing but indies humiliating AAAs - there are literally veteran animators that went indie. It's insane.

Personally the game was a lot of fun for me because I prefer it when JRPGs remain focused on the battles and character interactions. I'm not a fan of the English translation of the title because it doesn't tell you anything about what it actually is and doesn't play to the weebs at all. "The Hero's Party Was Annihilated" would be both a more accurate translation and tip off the isekai fans.
>>733861637
The hero acting so retarded was partially explained in gay priest's route. His was a trip after doing the other three. Personally I lean towards male hero after all said and done but at first I thought hero might be a girl too. Also

I love games that explain things, like:

>The game where a character creator screen makes a lot of sense because you are literally an alien invading earth so you "choose" what skinsuit disguise you wear.

>The game where you are trapped in one of those elaborate escape room games but you have no movement limits, unlike all the units you command. This is because you're a real human and no one can tell you to stop walking around but everyone else is a hologram and they can have strict movement limits.

>The fixed camera angle game explained by a telepathic blind girl who has a thaumaturgy connection with her teddy bear's eyes so that's why you can only see yourself from a 3rd person perspective(you can actually roam around where you can't see yourself if you feel like it, but you'll just get lost).

Placid Plastic Deck A Quiet Quest just did this, too. It's been a long time since a game took my breath away, but I guess you can do it by lowering my expectations back to simpler times, then surprising me when you surpass them.

They went to the trouble of FMV cutscenes in the GBC ripoff game and it was cool every time it happened. Like the tournament entry scene being full 3D. Maybe it worked because when I actually played GBC games, you'd never get a scene like that, so it was a bit surprising.

I played this just now. Making mistakes with the ruleset should be punishing you in some way or smoothbrains can just bruteforce it like what I did. Also it wasn't clear to me what it means if a chest has material "iron, gold". I wasn't sure if that means they can be either iron or gold, or they need both. Had trouble finding the final boss chest for that reason. And before that I think material never mattered in my run at least.
Anyway overall I liked it

>Underkeep
Is am eye of the beholder comedy edition, the joke was fun.

>Circuit Stance
Is like a mobage, those bakcpack kind of games? but better and without adds. I think is good but it really irritates me that nothing explains the stats or what you are doing. not an issue because in a minutes you can figure it out but it still sucks.

>Jump Bunny
Is a simple highscore game about jumping on top of enemies, the double jump only works after stomping someone and you need some pression because the spire is strange. nothing to say about it.

>RadCity: A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure
Too short, didn't kill a zombie and only slowly walk around. A nothing demo.

>Forehead Chip
I wasn't satisfied, maybe with some upgrades is better or maybe it's not my cup of tea. Sometimes feels like a hassle. I personally never liked the go pick up your ammo kind of things.

>Dread Weave
Is an interesting idea, an extraction shooter where you loot your surroundings while fighting monsters from another world which you end up if you die and have to escape. Most issues are technical because this game lags like shit, has more motion blur than a 2000's walking multitude video and sometimes things spawn without sense like a flying crate. Maybe good if they polish it...yeah right.

>Besmirch
It was good, is a little bit like Faith, Darkwood and Rune Factory, to give an idea of how it feels. The atmosphere feels opressive and although the demo was easy, maybe the full game will be harder. it doesn't have much for now for the demo beside a boss fight and doing not much around town. Is promising.
>>
>>733869061
Right after she tells you to do it again she also tells you to do it for longer, you need to keep shaking for like 10 seconds straight to progress

Wow, this game actually has audio problems like one character was too far from the microphone so all his lines are quieter. Anyway, from what I could hear, you're a detective at the premiere of your play but they're calling it a movie for some reason, but you get shot and killed, or the actor playing you does, which doesn't make any sense because you obviously survived the events the play/film was based on, so this was unscripted. That's probably what the mystery is.

Pretty cool game, but the Self-Aware™ humor is kinda dumb (no VAs saying "WOW THAT JUST HAPPENED", just very dumb item names and potion dispensers). The demo is fairly long despite being just one level (beat it in 40 minutes but I missed a lot of secrets)
Some cool features:
>physics-based puzzles/traps/boxes-waiting-to-be-stacked
>exploration tools, like a crossbow that shoots arrows with ropes
>kick button
>you can sneak around and avoid combat if you want (no sneak damage bonus as far as I can tell, you either avoid combat or you don't)
>after dying, you have to find your corpse to recover your loot so it's important to leave some basic equipment near the camp (spawn point)
>almost anything can be used as a weapon if you are desperate

3D platformer inspired by the N64's Bomberman games.
The bunny girl is cute (you can buy new outfits for her) and I like her abilities but the game is a bit too easy (the trailer shows some new traps and enemies in later stages, at least).
I wish the game had a bit more "visual flair" (more level variety than just floating metal boxes in the sky, maybe a world map or a level select screen) but overall it's a decent demo.

yeah I expected puzzle elements too from the screenshots, but it doesn't have any. You just move around the map deactivating 2-3 nodes. While doing that you perpetually lose health, which the hearts refill. There's just so many of those that you are never in danger of running out. And then you get roguelike upgrades, which you don't even notice, because failure is already borderline impossible.

Played the minesweeper "roguelite" for 5hrs... TLDR is that while interesting at first, it doesn't seem like it has staying power.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4368600/MineSweeperR/

How it works is that instead of a timer, you have a step/click counter. Since number mines >>> number of steps, you can't just solve normally and have to rely on Skills, obtained randomly, the roguelike aspect.

But even that is not enough to clear because you'll be dealing with both the Minesweeper RNG and the random Skill RNG, hence there is a meta-progression currency and shop, the "lite" part.

The meta-progression shop allows you to buy Fuses/chances that allow you to continue to after clicking a mine, increased currency gain, perks and most importantly, basic features such as SAFE INITIAL CLICK and double-clicking. Safe initial click being locked behind the meta is a bit crazy since it means your game can end on the first click if you don't pick it up.

These all sound nice on paper but what really happens is that the game goes from unfairly unclearable to trivial once you invest in the meta shop. Once you obtain all the bad luck protection perks and currency gain boosts, the game is pretty much solved.

The game description makes it sound like there would be a lot of build variety to play around with but honestly a lot of the Skills are useless, like there's absolutely no reason to use 4,5,6,7,8 as skill triggers when they rarely occur compared to 1 and 2s. Neither is there any reason to create skills that activate on clicking a mine when doing that kills you.

Of the skills that allow you to open multiple tiles at once, you really only need the lightning (random tile) and pickaxe (random adjacent). The rest of the skills are directional while these skills will always work as long as there is an empty tile. With the increased Gold and XP meta boosts, fishing these two skills is very possible in a run.

The only interesting thing is that you may want to do is to chain 2>1 and maybe even 3>1 like in this pic. This setup causes opening 1, 2 and 3 tiles to automatically uncover 8 other safe tiles and the effect will cascade if those happen to be 1, 2 or 3 too. The game is almost solving itself at this point.
