I really don't like how melee combat feels in RE9 compared to RE4 Remake. Leon's gameplay feels like a step down from that game in a lot of ways, but for melee specifically parries don't feel as satisfying to do and I don't like how they open up enemies for an execution but not a basic melee attack. In RE4 Remake it felt like you had to work harder to even open up an enemy for an execution, and you might have not even gone for it anyway if it was available because of your knife's durability. It felt a lot better for the pace of battles for that crowd control melee to be your reward for a parry, in 9 the routine of parry>execute on any strong enemy gets old quick.

The fight with "Commander" is reminiscent of the cutscene knife fight from 4 which became the scripted forced knife fight from 4R. So following the formula there should have been a second, multi stage boss battle with HUNK where he sets up a gauntlet of traps and ambushes for Leon to battle through culminating with a timed boss battle where Hunk reveals his superpowers. But maybe that is coming in DLC, or maybe theyre going to switch it up and HUNK will get his own DLC where he gets revived by the elpis or a Wesker-like super virus and gets to battle his way out with matrix powers. Imagine being able to "teleports behind u" to zombies across the room to neck snap them. Pure kino.
