>be sony>make the best handheld console.>make less than 20 exclusive games for it>let it fucking diei dont get couldn't they make one studio make games for the vita
another subject missing "did/does"
>>734120269sorry my first post
>>734120212California, unironically.Vita came out just as leadership at SIE shifted from Japan to the western branch. They didn’t like Vita and wanted to consolidate all Japanese 3rd party support on PS4, so they killed it.
>>734120212its because the name vita is shitIf they called it the playstation switch it would have sold billions
>>734120212handhelds were dying to phones, if you look at games today everyone is playing phone games. However mobile hardware got powerful enough to straight up run PC and console games so maybe the Vita came too early when every developer outside of niche japanese ones are all exiting the handheld market forever.
>>734120212too ambitious having oled in 2011 is crazy
>>734120212The vita is so cool brosI never get to talk about it on 4chan because no one ever makes threads and /vitagen/ is filled with retarded faggots
>>734120212Japs are faggotsProbably threatened by big gay nintendo to leave handheld market
>>734120212The memory cards were as expensive as the gamesThere was no Monster HunterThere was no reason to own the goddamn thing
>>734120625No one gave a fuck a out smartphones when the vita came out
>>734120212Best at being shit
>>734120212we need a sony handheld
>>734120495Go be a poltard somewhere else faggot
>>734120212its a shame. it had great potential. it just needed more games
>>734120212It needed a GTA spinoff (for the western market) and a Monhun game (for the japanese market)
>>734121703>It needed a GTA spinoff (for the western market) and a Monhun game (for the japanese market)Maybe Sony's mistake was being reliant on someone else selling their console for them.
>>734120212>>be sony>>make the best handheld console.never happened
>>734121546We having a 2+2 melty this morning?
>>734120212>Believed they had to be the "expensive" alternative to Nintendo which led to them bleeding money on their exclusives and them all underperforming.>Proprietary charger and memory for no reason with said memory corrupting very easily.>Refused to advertise it effectively after the first few months to the point that I don't think I ever saw an ad for it outside of those random Taco Bell promotions.>This also had the effect of causing western third parties to shift away from it almost immediately because of the lack of support and sales on their end.>Pushed for 3G and then shuttered it almost immediately.>Tried to push NEAR to be the equivalent of Streetpass but better and used it for all of like one game with no third-party developers touching it that I can recall.>Refused to greenlight lower budget games or even allow stuff like another Patapon or Loco Roco to release on it.>The very few times when they did make lower budget games they either almost didn't localize them (Freedom Wars required a push by a petition to actually support it) or refused to really advertise them like Tearaway.>Nearly all the third-party games were Japan-only with almost none of them getting localized.>Can't use multiple accounts on the system, only one, so unless you pirate or format your entire system you can't use out-of-region DLC when the PS3 and PSP did it just fine.>Didn't really have a "Killer app" game at any point in its lifespan. The closest games were Killzone Mercenaries, Muramasa, and P4G.>Sony's idea to try and save it were a Call of Duty exclusive they seemingly barely advertised and PSTV which shelfwarmed immediately.>Their second idea to try and save it was to release the Slim with a worse screen and a horrendous port of Borderlands 2.>Both times they barely advertised it past the launch of each new platform.
>>734121872i used to farm bosses for guns on that borderlands port because you could share the save file with the PS3 version of the game
>>734120749Did you try arx fatalis on it?
>>734121975How? The game ran like absolute shit, and was only barely passable if you hacked the Vita for overclocking and optimization mods.
>>734122195it was fine for killing bnk3r and warrior while i was on break. you had to be careful though, sawtooth cauldron would crash if you opened the menu too quickly after picking up items
I feel like It'd be much more successful if it came out today. It was of a time where what it offered was taken for granted on the one end and caught massive, sustained FUD from the other.Back then Japanese games, exclusivity, etc was all "niche", "one and done", "anti-consumer". To be replaced by FPS, arena and/or general service sloppa by decree of the PC Reddit Race. You couldn't discuss anything without them chiming in, and in the end they got monkey pawed. PC got some nice hand-me-downs from the last generations as a result of porting, so good in fact many of them developed taste but most such kino isn't really made anymore. This isn't just limited the PlayStation devs either. Yes, you might wonder why beloved games like Bloodborne or something would get traded for Concord but don't let it slip your minds that Nier Automata was almost a decade ago now. Hope you enjoyed Babylon's Fall. kek
>>734120212Anyone who owns or owned a "Vita" is a faggot, no exceptions.>>734120557This is factual. The original PSP was a hit.Sony just botched it because they're Sony.Be thankful Sony doesn't make portable game systems anymore and that Steam has filled that market instead. It's much better now.
Sony is developing a handheld that's going to be PS4/PS5/PS6 compatible and launch alongside the PS6. So they're returning to their portable line, which is pretty exciting.
>>734121082They released no good game for Japanese people since MH became a 3DS exclusive
>>734122037not that anon, but I didthe controls are awkward, I'm not sure if I did something wrong because i have to doubletap X for it to count as anything
>>734120212It was more expensive than the cheapest model of PS3. It couldn't play PSP games from disc, but had whole PSP hardware inside. It had back touch pad, that wasn't really used in games. It had no first party games past first year. Also, IT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN PS3
>>734123024>It had back touch pad, that wasn't really used in games.LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway used it considerably. A lot of other games used it as a substitute for triggers.
>>734120269black people tend to skip words
>>734120212As easy is it is to blame the memory card prices and, well, simply too high specs for what the damn thing was, the reality is smartphone gaming was becoming a thing. Ain't no one going to carry two devices in their pockets.
>>734122365>The original PSP was a hit.Because of Monster Hunter in Japan. Something they lost for Vita as Capcom went to 3DS instead.
>>734122298I have to disagree. I think it would have a much harder time coming out today, especially now that the Switch has cannibalized the market it had (Niche Japanese developers and low budget Japanese developers). It would have to earn that entire market back, be equal or lower than a Switch 2, still have physical games, perform equal to if not better than a Switch 2, and bring on board tons of third-parties that have found their home on Nintendo's side now like Capcom, Squeenix, Konami, Ubisoft, EA, Take Two, etc. This all assumes it has standard MicroSD support, L2/R2, and clickable sticks as well.>>734122509It's nothing like the PSP or PSV. It's more like a Switch Lite that can't dock. The handheld isn't going to have exclusive games, just pared down PS6 games according to the rumors. So it's basically a handheld SeS while the PS6 is the SeX.
>>734123398>Sony trophy autism wanted Capcom to put in trophies for the MHP3rd HD PS3 release>Capcom didn't want this, so they fucked off after already having shown interest in the Wii previouslyworst timeline
Did they fuckup the single screen port to VLR like they did with 999? Don't remember if there were any narrative reasons or mechanical reasons of it not working 1 to 1 like I'm thinking.
>>734123504and now they're doing trophies on them anyway so I have no idea why they were so autistic about not wanting to do it.
>>734120212Probably perfect portable ergonomics. Shame it couldn't just be PSP2.0. They had to tack on back touch screen, front camera, etc.
