want to say thanks to the touhou x crusader anon, as I'm now using point entities in trenchbroon to place torches and doors and it's way more comfortable than doing so manually.
also making progress on the prologue area (picrels) still a lot of work left... need to split it in pieces, place the light probes and check how to make the dungeon area less dark, don't know if I should put more lights or just increase the range of the current ones. I'm currently making tests for that
also, since it takes place in a very high area, I need to find a way to obscure what's below. Since this level is meant to be played at night it might be a non issue, guess I could just place some dark, opacity = 1 clouds in there
finally I need to improve my texture work and make the mountain look more rocky and less plain, but I can worry about that later

Jolt is one of the best 3D physics solvers and is a separate entity from Godot. You shouldn't be using Godot's built-in physics, that's why they changed the default to Jolt.

Also you should always be using Convex collisions. All physics libraries are designed around convex shapes. Idk the philosophy behind why they include concave as an option and then warn everybody how buggy it is. Every concave shape can be sliced into smaller convex shapes.

I'm doing multiplayer tests for the game, server hosting and the like, and while things work the biggest issue isn't even anything I'm doing; shitloads of modern ISPs and routers won't let you forward ports.
I got steam connections working, sure. Things are smooth as hell and direct connect is consistent, but if I want a server browser I host myself? If I want to host in a way that doesn't screw over GOG users? Gotta have port forwarding. It's not even conceptually hard, they just won't fucking let you do it.

Steam P2P uses a relay server, no? So why would you set up port forwarding instead of a relay server? The way I did it in my game was using mongoose to treat my game as a websocket client on desktop, then just set up a standard node server to handle sessions and all that jazz.

Because it's not just steam servers being hosted, it's also GOG ones. Though even dedicated servers with something like Fishnet via steam require port forwarding.

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough. You need some kind of NAT traversal. So for both Steam and GOG it may be worthwhile to look into setting up a common, public STUN server. I think after your server processes the connection, you can still pass the data to Steam's network since I assume you want to use its features, but at the end of the day it's not 2005 anymore. Most players aren't gonna want to port forward even if their ISP lets them.

Platform specific APIs keep coming up, but what I suggested was a generic web server. True P2P doesn't exist anymore. You have to send the data to a middleman server on a public IP. This kind of sucks in some ways, but it's also a basically free way to handle crossplay if you play your cards right.

Absolutely. 90% of the time I get someone asking about the game it's asking about multiplayer. I mostly expect four-player co-op sessions since that's what MP is balanced around, but that's all working for the most part.

Added an easter egg. This mysterious helper lady will chew you out if you choose not to pick the hourglass up. I might also extend it to all the other hourglasses in the level, so you'll eventually lose and be forced to restart.

I dont post a ton anymore but this one, the lsd dream emulator-ish walking simulator with some mini games in it
Im not disappointed, but setting up the rendering stuff for each level takes forever cus the surface shaders + post processing are connected, so I cant just copy/paste pre-made volume profiles for a lot of levels
and doing this masking portal effect to load into new areas requires a really specific set up, especially since im hoping to do it with 3D volumes/shapes rather than 2D planes like most portal effects in games.

I'm mostly just complaining because its a lot of repetitive tedious stuff right now, my next games planned out and I'm working on it a little bit here and there, but I wont do any serious work on it until this game is done

Still working on overhauling the way my game logic works, moved to an entity-component based system. A bit of a pain to refactor but I think it'll be worth it, since before I just had a bunch of different lists and it wasn't easy to keep a consistent reference to an object and I was repeating logic all over the place. Hoping to wrap this up and work on actual gameplay again, like adding a mage enemy that buffs nearby enemies with more health and damage.
