Play Marathon (the good one).
>>
I only played the first one. It was claustrophobic as fuck and ammo was scarce. Were 2/3 any better?

such a shame bungie didnt continue off of the original games
easily could have been a much better version of destiny

You're supposed to use your fists more. Fists rape the staff guys if you put velocity into it, and you can stunlock the meatsponge ghosts to save about 90% of your ammo.

2 and 3 are more fun. I'm tempted to say they're a LOT more fun, but your mileage my vary.

It would effectively be a soft reboot of Halo and I could see Microsoft getting particularly litigious about it.

People who say this kind of thing either never played or didn't understand Marathon.
Destiny is a Marathon game. D1 is Marathon 10 and D2 is Marathon 11 if we're counting.
If you want to say "Well Destiny is a bad Marathon game" you're noticing the limits of Marathon as a milkable concept.

>play this clunky unc shit
Miss me with that frfr

I did, and the only one I somewhat enjoyed and bothered to finish was Durandal. They're interesting but ultimately shitty games. Infinity feels like a creative writing project tacked onto a really obtuse map pack. The latter half of Marathon 1 made me wanna kill myself so I gave up, so many bad level design choices and enemy closets.

I'm really convinced that the people who hype these games up either only played them 20+ years ago or just watched the Mandalore vids and pretend to have played them.

I'm playing both actually

This is mostly what's happened.

Thats what I like about all the Marathon games.
The story wouldn't be as interesting if it weren't part of a game. If it were just a novel it would read like one of those shlocky action space opera books from the 70s. Adding the game, and especially controlling the aesthetics that are associated with the writing, really makes the writing better.
They are clunky and awkward to play though. I honestly followed a guide through 90% of all 3 games. I also played it with the fan soundtracks that mandy mentioned. I probably would have given up on them if I hadn't. Complete silence was a weird choice.

Did you get this opinion from reading other people's 4chan posts instead of playing the games yourself? Have you actually read any 70's sci fi novels?

Yeah, I used to buy clearance shit from a used bookstore I lived near. I'm not talking about the good stuff that everyone knows from the 70s. I'm talking the shitty dollar books. Or the filler books from old scifi magazines.
The sort of books with 12 aliens species that serve as basically only fodder for the protagonist to beat up. There's a bit more to what Bungie wrote, sure, I am exaggerating, this is 4chan. But on a surface level, it absolutely does sound like a cheap scifi novel until you get into the meat of 2.

The latter Marathon levels were decent to great, thoughever. Especially the alien ship levels. The only level I remember actively hating in the first game was the dark, oxygenless arena level where you have to flip 20 switches spread across a gigantic arena.

so many good memories of this game but i'm betting it doesn't hold up so i'm just gonna remain ignorant and hold on to the happy times

I am convinced you have neither played these games, nor can you read.
