Just look at how they overrate shit like DQXI, Octopath Traveller, Persona 5 and Metaphor Refantazio. Meanwhile, Korean or Chinese devs would try to introduce new innovations in graphics and gameplay like with Black Myth Wukong, Where Winds Meet, and Crimson Desert, and mainstream journos would nitpick the fuck out of them just because these games would make Japanese games look as if they are still stuck in the past and lazy. Complacency shouldn't be rewarded, and ambitions shouldn't be punished. I really have given up hope on the absolute state of this industry.

Boss fights are the same as any other Souls game and arguably worse because everything two-shots you, has 2-3 phases every single time, and have extremely long combos so you're just sitting there parrying for ages to actually deal any reasonable damage. Sometimes the bosses even get stuck in loops like Tian Ying did in phase 3 for me. Exploration is nothing special outside of being able to dart into the sky, and the game is just exhausting to play past Qinghe because you know every single side quest you're going to do is likely going to have a two-phase boss bare minimum or force you into a stonewall of a boss for hours like Tian Ying or Wolf Maiden. It's essentially just Rise of the Ronin but with more tedium.

The stagger system is poorly designed IMO, there are more janky, unintuitive enemy attacks (although some bosses are the same in Wukong) and whilst there is 5 weapon types, most players will likely only use one or maybe two, and even together I think there would be less options at a given time than in Wukong.
