Interesting how people who've played the game love it. While the people who proclaim that it sucks did so after watching some footage of it online. Death Stranding is truly an anti-streamer game

>>735610151I haven't finished it yet but my thoughts on it so far is that it feels contrived and like his heart wasn't in it this time. I feel like he didn't even wanna do DS2, not long after DS1 he said a hypothetical sequel would have to be a completely different game, back to the drawing board, rethink everything. Now DS2 is here and it's obnoxiously complacent to just be DS1 again but with a few new mechanics thrown in. The world is lacking good vibes, the plot itself feels paper thin and half thought out (why does sam agree to work with drawbridge when he's in the middle of being a suicidal alchoholic? he doesn't even say anything, not in protest or agreement. He had to be convinced to work with the UCA in the first game, and there he actually had personal stakes)The writing on all the preppers you meet is as bland as ever. The UI is still abysmal. It feels phoned in.And it feels like it's trying way too hard to be "wacky" like with the character of Charlie. DS1 pulled me in with its world and characters, as wonky as the storytelling could be. DS2 throws dumb things at me that I feel like would have no place in the world of DS1.

>>735611650Anon, I don't know how to tell you this, but Fromsoft game design has been affecting the video game industry for well over a decade now, and its influence has only picked up as their games continue to be success after success. Yes, MGS is still incredibly popular and a source of inspiration for SOME individual devs here and there, but it's more of a legend than the almost universal inspiration Fromsoft has become. There's been, what, like two games ever since the original MGS came out a bajillion years ago that LEGITIMATELY tried to copy it? Meanwhile Fromsoft shat out an entire genre that has more and more high quality mimics as time goes on? Yet here we are with... not only zero good MGS/Kojima-like games, but basically zero attempts period. I LOVE Kojima's stuff, but c'mon now. You're being disingenuous.

Telling an entertaining story is about making logical sense. Its about capturing the imagination and attention of your audience.Yes Kojima shit is weird as fuck. Thats okay. Its just a story. It gave us some of the most memorable moments in gaming history, and I think everyone can respect him for staying the course on keeping it weird for so long.
I feel like kojima is master of smoke and mirrors, like he knows how to present his story so the target would eat it like a feast, while its just an fancy looking mid food.Hes probably still better than 95% of devs, but given current climate its no achivment.I feel like hes ok because i see that he has fun while doing his job and he dont let people tread on his vision.Still i just dont like his stories/games enough to play though them. His characters feel like a tarantios ones, where every one of them needs to be quirky and memorable, to the point where the whole world looks like a circus and it crash the other parts of the story. Some of this stuff is good, funny, even golden, but there should be some balance and kojima have none, its a bit like with gorge lucas, its not that he have to big of an ego, its just no one challanges him/checks him on his shit, because everyone treats him like a master.

DS2 is a great sequel that build and expands on the original like a sequel should do. It's just pretty conventional. If this was any other studio people would be extremely happy, but since it's Kojima people expect something wild like MGS2. DS2 is surprising in how not surprising it is for a Kojima game, but it doesn't feel pointless
>>735623965This, it doesn't break new ground but as sequels go I thought it was pretty damn good and basically just gave me more of what I wanted from this setting/these characters. Just because its Kojima doesn't necessarily mean it has to be more than just a competent, conventional sequel.

You'd think making new versions or restocks for the PC launches would be worthwhile. I hear the quality of the original DS1 jackets and the Fjallraven backpacks were high end which, if I was going to pick up something that was "subtle" vidya related they seemed to do right havingvidya related writing and in-universe Bridges labeling, but no actual real world advertising shit on it like the name of the game etc.

Did anyone think that a lot of people buy the game without writing a review? Its sales may very well be fine, and even the original DS and its Director's Cut didn't sell immediately in one huge turd like console types expect, but rather it went on to sell a fuckload over years and Kojimbo said multiple times that PC had the best long term sales as well as community shit both in-game (most people on the multiplayer) and apparently the photo contest monthly thing which for some reason the devs really put a lot of stock in. I expect that DS2 will have the same process and , as a direct numbered sequel will always have a slightly lower initial playerbase because only those who bought and played the previous game will likely pick this one up, especially given the heavy story focus continuity. I'm sure a handful of people will just pick it up to play delivery man simulator and ignore all the rest of it, but that isn't the vast majority. Its the same way that FFVII Rebirth is not going to have people jumping right in the way that Remake would.

>>735615842Why did it filter you? There are some people who really don't like it, the story, the kojima weirdness etc... but there are others who like all the parts of it, but find the game mechanics itself "stressful". I've run into several of those, especially early on who liked playing, but kinda 'bounced off' because they didn't really understand how to counter a lot of the enemies early on, traversal can be difficult, or the fear (not the actuality, early missions are permissive with ratings) of fucking up and letting things be damaged, forgetting to use container spray (or not realizing the difference betweeen container exterior and damage to the thing inside is different; the latter can't be repaired). I've run into fuckloads of people who bounce off either a BT experience - especially a 'big one' where you get noticed, the dolphin shows up etc... or the MULE thing where you're trying to sneak into/around a camp and being pinged no matter what (hint- if you are carrying ANY deliverable cargo- not equipment or metals/plastics I think those MULE beacons WILL ping you and tell the camp where you are). Note you're nto actually SEEN yet -t hat wont happen until one of them actually takes sight of you but this isn't like a MGS guard, they have relatively long ranged sight if you're not in a high grass area or other hiding. There are ways to escape or fight, and you can just drop your cargo outside the perimeter before it gets pinged (though I don't remember how far you can move before it vanishes/disappears. If you have a bike which you should by that point, you can put some cargo on the bike and park it outside the perimeter). and then walk through without getting pinged, stealthily sneaking up and using the Strand to tie up MULEs, or you can alert and fight them hand to hand but be wary of damage if you have cargo.Anyway, dependiing on why, it may be worth going back; later in the game you get more tools.

Their design problem is fundamental. You can't blast then with piss in DS2. You start DS2 already knowing how to play and, lacking any self reflection, you misremember and misattribute everything. It's just classic. I criticize DS2 for tonally being all over the place and for not improving the BT mechanics. Arguments about the traversal being lenient are correct: the cliffs are steeper and taller than ever but there are gentle slopes around them so it's not a bother. Dev cowardice for sure but i was never bothered by cliffs in DS1 either and neither were you.The map contains more vast and flat plains but the map is larger than DS1's map. Online players flattening the terrain with their paths increases the flatness by a lot, this factor is not negligible. I want the map be even bigger because i'm here specifically to take a hike.Something i found myself doing in DS2 that i hardly did in DS1: chaining ropes to climb huge cliffs, sometimes 3-4 ropes in a daisy chain. Then i see anon telling me the terrain is worse.DS1 bikes were obtained early and so were blood grenades or bola guns. DS1 didn't hold anything back when it came to negating its own mechanics.DS2 copies all of the good and all of the bad of DS1 but it does not copy its soul. It has a different soul and players feel a breakup with their old love, their criticism is mostly irrational.
