The best thing about the movie was Fox, and there wasnt enough of him. I cant wait to see Wolf in the next movie.

Every single subplot could be removed without impacting the story. Yoshi could be removed, Fox could be removed, Bowser's redemption plot could be removed, Peach's casino adventure could be removed.
Mario and Luigi do nothing in the film they just tagalong, you could probably remove them if the movie wasn't called the Mario movie.

That said, the content was still good quality, which saves it from being a 2/10 and makes it a 6/10, because despite everything being irrelevant/incomplete its still fun.

I’m just making fun of the people saying there’s no plot in Galaxy. No, it’s not as dramatic as Lion King, but why does it need to be? I just don’t know what person past age 12 is going into this movie expecting a message that will change their life or something.

Just enjoy that it’s a movie that treats the franchise with respect. It’s not ashamed to be a Mario movie, or be associated with Nintendo. The didn’t shoehorn in some story about Toad trying to figure out what gender he is. They didn’t make Luigi black, or Fox gay. They didn't take a shot at organge man.

In this day and age, even in a kids movie, for this thing to just be a kids movie with no message bashing you over the head is fantastic. And even better, it’s completely about the source material. It’s miles better than those god awful sonic movies, or many recent “children’s movies” (Moana 2, Lilo and Stitch remake, Inside Out 2). Oh, and it’s better than the first Mario movie.

It's useful, when watching a scene in a movie you're analyzing, to think in terms of what it accomplished in the overall structure of the movie.
That isn't to say that every scene must move the plot forward (though that is part of writing a -tight- script), but that every scene should serve a purpose. Maybe it provides characterization that will be needed later, or provides a break in the action so the audience isn't overwhelmed, or plays into specific themes or character arcs. If a scene can be cut from your movie without any impact on the rest of the edit then that scene should be scrapped or entirely reworked.

I say all this because nearly every scene in the Mario Galaxy movie could be scrapped and it would be the exact same movie. You could literally just have the start with Rosalina's capture, everyone goes to rescue her, final scenes, it would be the same fucking movie but 20 minutes long.

Reviewers aren't being hyperbolic when they call this an anti-movie. The previous Mario film at least pretended to have story beats and a character arc; it fucked up the paint by numbers but you could still recognize the form of the picture. This movie has none of that to the point that people might rightly compare it to clip shows.

The closest it gets to any kind of actual writing is Peach wanting to find her Sister and discover her origins, which takes up approximately 35 seconds of runtime and has no impact on her character whatsoever.

Pretty crazy how it feels like this movie was less bloated than the first despite it being based on GALAXY of all.
The lack of shitty pop songs also helped it a lot.
It's still a bloated mess but I really liked the first half.
Also the fact that Yoshi is useless is actually a good idea. He brings nothing to the table but it was really nice having him around.

It just adds nothing new that we haven't seen before. Established characters and locations thrown together that feels more like a showcase of how far the Mario franchise has gotten. Even minor spinoffs get new characters or locations that eventually get introduced into the mainline games, but here? Nothing.

It's cool as a show piece for how advanced modern animation has become and I like how the SMB2 bosses were used for a relatively minor scene, but that's it. Considering that Illumination asked for Nintendo to add Fox into the plot looking back it now it sounds like a plead to make the story more interesting because they ran out of ideas. Either that or that Mario mandate is still prevalent but only for the movies.

If the next movie's gonna have Cappy as a major character I'm gonna be letdown because they could have easily introduced him at the start of the movie.
