Unbound is cool also you can disable the tap-to-drift mechanics and rely solely on inertia and flicks to make the cars slide. The Pro Drift tires they added in the last update are fun as fuck.
>>
>>736627356
anon, cars naturally oversteer when turning, you cannot escape drifting. You need to learn how to drive. Literally git gud.
>>
>>736627847
>cars naturally oversteer when turning
cars naturally understeer once the steering tires lose traction, not oversteer. all road cars are set up to understeer on purpose to get the car off the road in case of emergency and not into the incoming lane.

>>736628147
I do know what I'm talking about, faggot, I've played every single racing game that exists. Cars oversteer when turning especially at high speed and under power. It's called inertia. You are a fucking scrub and should kill yourself before you crash a real car while assuming traction is infinite.

also you should still play unbound because you can tune a car for grip and it drives in a kind of sticky way like older NFS games.
>>
>>736628301
gt7 if you have ps
>>
>>736627937
the steering tires should not ever lose traction. If you've done that you are turning in too hard and not applying the throttle to rotate the car. Understeer is undesirable and slow. Oversteer is desirable and potentially fast.

I'm not talking about tap to drift you cock sucking special needs child.
and yes cars do in fact oversteer simply by pushing the gas pedal down and turning. It's really not difficult or complex to figure out that if you whip a 2 ton shit box sideways the unsteered part of the car (the back) is going to want to keep going in the direction it was going before you turned. It's newtons law not video game shit. Dumb fuck

>>
>>736628964
What happens when you 'whip' the shitbox sideways and the steered part of the car, the front, loses grip before the unsteered part, the back, because the angle of the front tires is now too sharp to retrain traction?

Damn you own old stuff? You must really know what's good!
>>
>>736629168
if that happens it's because you steered too fast and the front tires' grip is overcome by the inertia of the car moving forward. You have to decelerate in order to transfer weight over the front tires in order to give them the traction to rotate the rest of the car.
to good drivers this should basically never happen because proper cornering involves some deceleration.
>>
>>736629202
Autistic retard, anyone who "has played all racing games ever" would understand from my post what I meant with the combination of wanting a "modern arcade game where the car can go through a corner without drifting".

True I have an entire racing setup and nowhere to put it. I might have to get a loft bed with space under it for the cockpit

So does that just make devs send you a USB with a whole new physics system for their games because the topic was clearly games where there is _literally_ no way to corner without drifting, a cancer burnout started and that has continued since
>>
Why is it called cockpit anyway, that sounds oddly gay.
>>
>>736629736
It isn't gay because cars are female so when you're sitting in the cockpit what you're actually doing is being unbirthed into the literal cock-pit (the vagania).

that's literally every racing game ever dumbass
if the car is drifting and you didn't want it to you are bad at the game and should kill yourself
like I said unbound and even heat let you make grip cars that do not drift. All of the crew games have grip cars that don't naturally drift though c2 and Motorfest you can tune them to do so. CarXStreet has pretty good physics and indepth tuning which which you can build cars that stick to the road.

but 99% of the effort has to come from you driving the car appropriately so it doesn't slide undesirably. You must git gud, no video game should ever cater to you.

you can tell the difference by drawing an imaginary line from the top of the rear tire upwards. If the line exits the bodywork of the car without entering the passenger space it is female. AMS2 looks great and has some really cool historical content, but whether the AI does a decent job or not is very dependant on the car/track combination you choose since it doesn't run on the same physics you have (which gets revamped every update) and it needs to be manually tuned by the developer for each straight/corner.
Also, the developer keeps adding more series instead of focusing on fleshing out the carset, AI and rulesets for those already in the game.
The game can do vintage open wheelers, Kart, GT3, multi-class IMSA, Nascar/Indy ovals, Rallycross, 90s DTM, Stadium Super Trucks and pretty much every everything else except actual rally...
It just doesn't do a great job for ANY of this stuff (while lacking official licenses on top of course).

EVO still feels like it's in an alpha stage, with each update taking months and mostly just adding an handful of cars plus one or two tracks.
The car simulation is fine and you can hotlap some cool tracks or do a track day on the Nordschleife online, but that's mostly it for the fun stuff.
Modded AC already does everything EVO can and more.

for those who don't know, Ian Bell, who is the head of Straight studios and previously Slightly Mad Studios, once worked for Simbin, the company that produced GTR2 and the WTCC Race games.
Allegedly at some point he made off with the source code to ISI's gmotor/pmotor game engine which is the underlying technology behind rfactor 1 and 2, ams1, and lemans ultimate (among others).
rumors allege that SMS' Madness engine used by the Project CARS games, AMS2 and Project Motor Racing is based on, in whole or in part, this stolen source code.

I don't think Stephen King ever actually thought about it that hard but yes Christine in the movie is still a transgender demonic car.
the Belvedere has enough of fender hip that it qualifies as female under my rules even if the thin track width of the era puts the imaginary line in the trunk. It's not just about the centerline of the tire being behind the c pillar it's how much the rear fender and wheel pontoons out laterally from the passenger/cargo area too.

A dualie pickup for example is technically female, a narrow body pickup is not. A Dodge Challenger is female, the Chrysler 300c is not.

that said i still believe most all cars are female regardless of proportion, including truggs, because it's in man's nature to name machinery female things and a car is like a boat and a woman: a hole you throw money into

because the movie is based on the book and that was in fact part of the origin story of the car
the movie glosses over that because it's a fuckin movie.
while I don't disagree that machines are female by default, its not because they're money pits but because they are useful and needed but are otherwise helpless and can't really do anything without some meat stick (human) inside them.

Again the movies a movie, it's an adaptation, that scene was clearly too graphic to show and weird to explain at the time, I go by the original source.

LMPs are the same thing as an open wheeler but wearing a long and wide dress like a properly-dressed maid or a bride.

The ones that weren't, like air-cooled 911s and early MR2s, were widely considered deathtraps. Get a brand new unmodified 911, enter the corner too fast, and it'll understeer out of it just like any normal car. You can make it oversteer, but it's not the default behaviour, you have to either try to deliberately unsettle it or modify the suspension geometry.

look man there are people on this board right now who jack off to talking cartoon race horses but nobody does that shit for cars so I gotta work with what I got
>>
>>736636918
that's not quite right
a 911 understeers under power because the engine, all the mass of the car, is in the back. To corner appropriately in a 911 you have to brake gently to get the weight transferred forward, then you can turn hard because the front end doesn't have a big massive engine to generate a whole lot of inertia. This makes the car start to oversteer which you then control by getting back on the gas and making that fat ass squat which makes the car stop oversteering and go where it is pointed. Driving a 911 is exactly like driving a racing go-kart where you are balancing brake and throttle to corner effectively rather than using only one pedal at a time.

the entire racing game community hates paid mods and the modders who make them because they use the fact that things cost money as a shield from criticism. you can reasonably expect, if you pay for a racing game, that the cars in the game are as physically accurate as possible. paid modders use that premise to shit out slop that is no better than what you can get for free, usually slapping in meme plugins and lua crap to give the cars special features, but not actually making them more realistic. this is a big problem in beamng and assetto corsa with csp because paid modders use shitty vibecoded lua that presents a security risk.

>I can do a dozen extra things with a mouse, keyboard and display
but you can't drive a car the way a real car is driven therefore you cannot most effectively play a racing game.
every racing game is better with a wheel, the precision it affords is unmatched. it's like going from playing FPS with just a keyboard to playing with kb+mouse. sure you can play doom with a keyboard but a mouse player can turn faster than you could possibly match. yes you can play flight sims with a keyboard but a joystick has superior fine control. you can play fighting games on a keyboard but a gamepad player or fightstick user will wipe the floor with you.
gamepads and keyboards give no feedback to what is going on in the game, through a wheel you can literally feel what the car is doing.

if you want to be good at the game you need the right kind of control input. can't fly a plane with a dead fish.
