After that I got into FFXIV around Heavensward and that caused me to go back over the years and I’ve played the entire series at this point. Some games multiple times in fact. I know other people my age and younger who have done the same thing, but all of them were also XIV players and that’s really been the only real way to get into the series these days. FF15 was straight dogwater, we haven't gotten any DQ that isn't a remake in forever and while I liked FF16, the gameplay could've been way better if they weren't afraid of making a REAL action game and the side content in the game is pretty bad. The FF7R's play decently enough but suffer from pacing issues and an elongated release schedule, we're getting one part per generation. the renowned JRPG dev is now basically just making mediocre action games and remakes, sometimes at the same time.
