Execution, application, context, etc matter.
Open world may work for some types of games but not all.
Whether its open world or linear do not copypaste content. Give fresh experiences. Nothing is more souldraining than ubioft style checkbox copypate open worlds eith 8 things in them x100 across a huge map of copy and pasted or auto generated terrain.

Theres nothing impressive about a large world if nothing is in it.

I love old pixel art and drawn portraits and xenogears/chrono trigger-style anime cutscenes, but this disgusting 3d cel shaded shit that is 99% of all those games today and a 100% of gacha slop just turns me off faster than nothning else, despite I know that there's probably some absolute gold out there.

It's kind of insane that we've had two generations of hundreds of these things and yet we haven't been able to move to the optimal use of it, which would be smaller map with finite unique content and iterating on oblivion-style schedules so fewer npcs but more deep and evolving with a focus on density and depth rather than big maps and copy pasted content. Can we get just one 20h game like this, it's like all we have is experimental slav-jank in the form of pathalogic and stuff like that. The potential is just lying in the gutter not being used.

There are some which have had cool online elements like everything from dragon's dogma, but it is completly playable offline

Like the Ur-dragon, secret final boss where if you're connected the health bar is massive and shared between everyone currently fighting it. When not connected its HP scales down so a single player can kill it

Not a weeb, the amount of anime I've watched I can count on one hand, two of them are Pokemon and Cowboy Bebop, but I've always been confused why some people have such a strong hatred for anime, especially when it's from people who are in subcultures that are already geeky in their own right, like gaming. Almost all the team ninja games have an anime arstyle, the nier games have an anime artstyle, a lot of fighting games have an anime artstyle, etc etc... It's not just a few exceptions.

I know enough about anime that there's a pretty big span between something like Huniepop and Spirited Away, or Dragon Ball Z and Cowboy Bebop. It's one thing to think waifu culture is cringe, but why does one also have to hate Vegeta by extension of hating moe shit?
