Loved how inventory management actually mattered in DeS and the levels weren't filled with checkpoints everywhere, loved how jn DaS1 you could actually get lost and feel stuck and you'd have to fight your way out because you didn't get fast travel right away. DaS2 is just mediocre and DaS3 and ER only have good boss fights and smooth gameplay, but the sense of adventure is gone despite having beautiful worlds
As much as we can all laugh at rollslop, I do appreciate DeS and DS1 (no From game since DS1 worth a damn) for the atmosphere, ambience, mood, sense of adventure. Getting lost but enjoying it. No map is great for example, have to map it out in your mind.

Wandering through a field does nothing for me. I will say the actual levels I did play in Elden Ring were good. The castle, magic college, volcano level. If the whole game was just levels instead of open world I'd probably like it a lot more.

It's not unenjoyable but there was a feeling of a world instead of adjacent interaction like in 3 forward. It's a better game you can say, but did you want immersed in a world compared to just engaging with a series of mechanics. This is almost every old game though so take your pick. Need to make your way through the world and are more a subcategory of it's operations? It's more immersive because your choices are less a bag of systems and more the eay you make your way through the world. Same ethos as SS13 and Dwarf Fortress.

It was a failed experimental idea, but is very minor in the grand scheme and overwhelming vast majority of players would never even know if they hadn't just regurgitated this opinion from the internet. Also "muh content" is almost entirely a completionist/achievement-brained zoomer complaint where they feel they have to be able to easily get 100% in one playthrough and if they can't that is an inherent flaw. You don't need to see every single thing the entire fucking game has to offer in one playthrough, shut the fuck up.

The complete opposite, see above. Each world is distinct, but the subareas of each world all mesh together and progression and shortcuts all feel very organic. It's also much preferable to the incessant backtracking of Dark Souls with merchants, quest givers, covenants, blacksmiths, etc. all on opposite ends of the world require you to just sprint back and forth like a headless chicken endlessly through all these areas you've already cleared, completely devaluing the experience of mastering these areas. >Most bosses felt nonsensical and didn't even match the location>R1+Rollspam is at its worst hereYou have to be trolling, it's the ONLY game in the series where bosses actually feel like a product of their environment they live, utilize the environment, and are unique puzzle Zelda-esque bosses instead of just being roll and spam R1. NO ONE back in the day spammed roll, and Demon's Souls has the most de-emphasized roll of all the Souls games as well as the least focus on micro/technical combat, instead with much more focus on macro routing, build, and learning puzzle bosses.

Almost everyone who started with Demon's Souls, it is their favorite, while most of its detractors are zoomer dipshits that played all the other Souls games first and went into Demon's Souls with far too much experience, preconceived notions and expectations. They also spammed guides and played after the servers were closed, even further diminishing the experience. There is nothing that can replicate the magic of 2009-2011 Demon's Souls, you genuinely just had to be there instead of sucking on your mother's tit.
>>737326348>beat Demon's Souls multiple times>can't sit through Dark Souls or any of the other Souls type games after a certain pointDemon's hooked in a way the later games couldn't. I want to say level structure is part of it. Enemies reviving when you die is one thing, but prior to teleportation between locations being forced to murder everything over and over again is goddamn tiresome and gets old. At least in Demon's when you kill shit they stay dead until you either level the level or get yourself killed. Also enemies definitely die faster in demon's even early on.

>>737336528The transition from adventure game to rhythm game started with Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3
I don't like how the games got more frantic. Too many latter bosses just spazz out like an angry lawnmower and it's not fun to dodge 11 times to get one hit off
>>737326348i only played the remake, that counts right
Does it emulate well? Don't wanna unbox my ps3 and the ps5 demaster is kinda boring to look at.
I love how replayable Demon's Souls is. I've played through Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3 several times, but I've beaten Demon's Souls over a dozen times because you can complete the game in under a few hours once you know what you're doing and it's just a really comfy game. I've only beaten Elden Ring once.
>>737326768I didn't even notice it on my first playthrough
>>737329589>loved how jn DaS1 you could actually get lost and feel stuck and you'd have to fight your way out because you didn't get fast travel right awayTHIS>continue going after Quelaag>hit the golden gates>"shit, am I required to go UP that fucking thing?"
>>737331558So why are both of them complete trash?Sounds more like the original director was the one responsible for all the good that remained in 2's final build, if "unchained Tanimura" keeps releasing garbage.
>>737336842Here's your fast travel bro
>>737336735Yeah, RPCS3 was basically made with the sole purpose of playing DeS
>>737326348Bosses range from way too fucking easy to damn these controls suck
Requesting games (new or old, don't care) that are even remotely similar to DeS and DS1, preferably 3D (or least 3D space, don't care if it uses sprites/sprites that face the player etc). I'm aware of the older From games like STA and KF (great music in these, particularly KF, too). The quiet, the atmosphere, minimal GUI, easy to immerse yourself, the idea that even 'trash' enemies are a bit of a threat and so is the environment. It's a good balance of taking your time but it isn't braindead or uninteresting, very nice world and level designs. I recommend KF and ST(A) for those who haven't tried them but like DeS and/or DS1. Yes there's more 'clunk' but it's at least worth a good try even if you don't finish them.I've got Labyrinth of the Demon King to play soon, been meaning to play it since it first came out.
>>737336735Yeah if you got a decent cpu.
>>737336939Why does the lighting and shaders in DeS and DaS1 look better than ER?
>>737336784Most people don't. It's a terminally online zoomer complaint from those who need to use a guide at all times and find 100% of everything in the game
I like Dark Souls 2. I think it has the best levels and the best structure. Leveling ADP is a non issue and if you want to be a dodgy fucking loser you should be forced to put points into a stat the same way you'd have to if you wanted to be a fridge.

>>737337061I had looked at that right around the time (I have a few other games to get) when myrient was kill, now I've got to find another emulator site to grab them from. I've written down Vagrant Story to get now, too.

>>737337202It's seriously incredible. The sound design in particular will probably remind you of Demon's the most, but there's a lot in common with level design and enemy weaknesses and stuff like that. Brilliant game. The only word of advice I'd give, feel free to ignore if you want to go 100% blind (not actual spoilers, just in case) is that the game's own tutorial teaches you wrong. I don't know if it was some late dev balancing change or what but if you follow what the game tells you you'll be focusing on the wrong things. You want to have one weapon of each of the three damage types with you, that's the main, most important thing. If you have that, everything else you can just wing. The game will teach you about grinding weapons to get bonus points against specific enemy types but it makes a really tiny difference, and it glosses over damage types which makes a massive one.Brilliant level design, art direction, soundtrack, great story, weird and fun combat system, some of the best cutscene direction in the industry to this day.
>>737335485I'll gladly say Demon's is better than Dark Souls. Forever. I like everything about it a lot better.
>>737331625>Ico, Shadow of the Colossusyeah teamIco games feel weirdly Miyazaki >Miyazaki loves to read the backstory documentsno wonder his lore is spread across item descriptions lol>Miyazaki: When designing the bosses, I made sure that they would be varied and exciting. I prepared different gameplay and strategies for each one so that players didn’t get tired of the same fight every timethis is what I really enjoyed about Demon's after playing DaS1, 3 and BB: ALL bosses are uniquepretty much only Penetrator is a "cool knight fight", unlike what feels like a dozen in DS3 they are all great, but uniqueness is certainly fun >King's Field 22 or "2" (3 in JP)?
>illusory wall gave up his original vs remake comparison because even he doesn't care about the remake
>>737336721Yes, but it also unfortunately means you're trans.
>>737331625you can really see the Oblivion influence in Elden Ring
>>737331856>>Miyazaki wanted Anor Londo to be an epic location that would offer the player a real sense of accomplishment once they arrive. >>737332317>wait, where are you going?
>>737336939Not 3D but check out Blasphemous. Very inspired with similar atmosphere, structure and storytelling. Unique and interesting world too and a great metroidvania in its own right.
>>737332141>Bloodborne's core idea was apparently brought to From by SCEJ out of a desire to work with MiyazakiSnoy fanfiction. It's born out of this specific video:https://youtu.be/oiGPTI06fn8?t=177Even in english it's quite obvious that the "idea" was simply working together, this "desire of working with Miyazaki", but in japanese it's beyond any doubt. Miyazaki talked at length about all of the core inspirations behind Bloodborne, it wasn't anything handed to him.Didn't read the rest.
>FromSoftware Spent More Time On The Duskbloods’ Gameplay Than Any Other Title, and It Will Be the Most Innovative>As reported in a new video shared by Ziostorm, a Chinese journalist who provided accurate information on Elden Ring before the game's release, recently revealed some small, exciting tidbits about FromSoftware's upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. The game was reportedly greenlit even before the marketing campaign for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice started, and it is the game that FromSoftware has spent the most time on gameplay among all of their games.>All the time spent on prototyping The Duskbloods' gameplay is reportedly paying off, as the game, although PvEvP, features many innovative gameplay elements that the team is really proud of. So much so that the journalist speculates the game could influence games from other studios as much as the aforementioned Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice did, especially with the parry mechanics that are now prevalent in almost every action game.>Miyazaki considers Link to the Past to be GOAT and collaborating with Nintendo is his biggest dreamAre you ready for kino?
>>737338227No, I don't like multiplayer games.
DeS and BB are the best Souls games and it's not even close>Demon's Souls & Bloodborne were both collaborations between FROM Software & SIE Japan (Sony's internal studios)>Completely self-contained and complete games>Extremely memorable. Everyone remembers Boletarian Palace, Tower of Latria, Valley of Defilement, Yharnam City, Forbidden Woods, Fishing Hamlet>tfw we'll never get another FROM Software & SIE Japan collaboration game again>Miyazaki wants to collaborate with Nintendo now
