Even 1080p looks like shit. When I play a game running on unreal5 I literally have to turn on DLSS or else my 3060 will die. It's so painfully bad that I CAN SEE THE ENEMIES GHOSTING as they move and leave behind afterimages of themselves. It's so disgusting. Never had an issue running IdTech games or Counter strike 2. They all run native res and extremely well, meanwhile ue5 needs dlss in order to run at a "playable" framerate.

I got on his side when broke down what good graphics pipelines were. Using HL alyx as an example as that game looks amazing and runs very well. Turns out doing the effort of having max area topology and a great forward rendering pass can make your game run 60+ fps. There's this Graphics Programming discord server that Threat Interactive joined and got banned in and now everyone there hates him.
On that GP Discord there were a few guys on there that also post on 4chan while taking a break from making yet another C++ spinning vulkan cube renderer demo project.

Implementation details and bad C++ features to misuse and get lost in are irrelevant to him, when he gets the Asmongold/SpaceX Grant I hope some guys that actually know how to program tag along and build that Days Gone renderer for UE5 he talks about constantly.

Honestly things are so grim the only future I see for C++ graphics programmers is unironically working for Threat on his Unreal Engine Patch or making your own 2d sprite game like Tangy Tower Defense.
Everyone uses Unreal Engine to cut off engine programmers and even when Battlefield 6 was super successful as an in-house engine, EA massacred DICE anyway, grim.

There's thousands of C++ programmers that know Vulkan intimately and know engine dev and actually yesdev BUT they are all atomized working on their separate engines that no one will ever use, with their own C++ idiosyncrasies and complexity where one developer can't understand or get anything from another developers engine, total atomization. They basically do this work, not to make a game or something useful for anybody else, but as a CV for a job that will never come.

The way that Unreal Engine 5 killed the entire engine and graphics developer space, even though it's a terrible engine with a ton of issues and terrible performance, should have caused every developer to riot and totally lynch UE5 for all it's faults and get that market and income back, but every C++ dev is in the crab bucket, and therefore they suffer eternally and we suffer eternally when we have to buy an Nvidia 6666 with raytracing to basically render mat_fullbright 1.

Maybe the french guys that did E33 are gonna modify UE5 to be actually good, someone convince them.

I genuinely feel bad for him, hes clearly passionate about whatever game or whatever he has in mind and I really don't see how he can try to muster any kind of support outside of the videos he makes, at least he can try to garner some sort of audience with that and hopefully sooner or later actual developers that would be willing to help. They are fun, educational and I enjoy them. The problem is you don't start with a CEO. You start with people who have the ideas on how to do things, and then you work on building your business with management. He doesn't know what he wants because he doesn't know shit about graphics programming. You can't optimize an engine based on that. The people who should be having ideas are the actual programmers, and if this was something worth talking about (it's not, as plenty of Unreal games have shown poor performance is the fault of lazy developers, not the engine), competent developers would have got together and done what he claims to be trying to do.
You can make an established product with a manager hiring a team. Usually it ends up sucking that way, but if the product is solved (games, burgers, dildos), you know where to hire people and have a general idea what you want.
With the Threat Interactive situation, he FEELS a certain way and doesn't know shit. He doesn't know what he wants except "muh optimization" because he doesn't know how game engines work and tapped out when trying to learn it. It's vague and nonspecific, and you can't hire people for a vague and nonspecific goal and expect it to work out.
