>forcing server upkeep
EVERY
FUCKING
TIME

Anti-SKG shills are always like this. Their arguments are:
>muh forced upkeep
>muh programming difficulties
>muh EULA
>muh government regulation (that don't favour corporate abuse at the expense of the costumer)

Always the same arguments that are literally debunked. Time and time again they get BTFO with the same rebuttals, and then they magically forget what happened the next day. I'm always left thunderstruck when I see their identical copes crop up left and right.
>gradually, I began to hate them
>>
>>739194230
Its not even about forcing them to keep servers up, its about the game, if it is being sunset, to be playable in some state.
>>
>don't like live service slop
>therefore I don't play those games
>problem solved
what's the point of this movement again?

>>739194385
>>739194361
Many online games are split between functions handled by the server and those handled on the client side, requiring a server for the game to be played. This is why they get shut down.

>>
>>739194461
Boo hoo
Sounds like the devs have to have a sunset option for the games to be in a playable state. Fan revivals of long dead mmos show this to be a non issue.

>>
>>739194230
>forcing them to keep the servers up
That is not what SKG was about. It is about including a way for the customer to continuing using their purchase in the EOS, such as self-hosted servers or stripping a game of its online services and allowing it to be played as such. Although, in the EU petition, it was proposed as an alternative that they could have a clearly defined server period before purchase. Even that option is not "forced server running." It's "Before release, we've prepared and promise to keep the servers up for X years, until date Y, and you are guaranteed to this service until that date."

>"SKG wants to force devs to keep servers up forever!"
Blatant lie. SKG just wants games (not including subscription-based for free to play) to be accessible after active support drops. Whether that means private servers or peer to peer connections, people should be able to play games on local networks without relying on a company to provide dedicated servers that can't be run at home. I should be able to set up a bunch of PS3s and play Ace Combat Infinity with friends without Bamco's help.

That's fair enough, isn't it? I don't buy them so I see zero advantages in supporting SKG, games could still be pulled from stores and distribution ceased due to copyrights like with movies and music, so the games it's protecting are very much limited, but if someone wants to eat shit they should be allowed to. That doesn't sound like an argument for why should users be denied ability to run dedicated servers, when such had been the prevailing practice for the last 20 years and had only been concertedly driven out recently with the rise of live service games and the culture of remakes in order to re-sell the same product.

Bruh, Socrates was heavily critical of public rule and ultimately murdered by politicians for wrong think, how is it even humanly possible to be this ignorant.

The whole debacle comes down to corporations trying to weasel out of their responsibilities as a seller via fine print on an obnoxiously legalese agreement that they KNOW nobody will read.
Defending this kind of practice is clearly some form of devil worship.
>>
>>739201395
>they get told to stop their jewish tricks.
The biggest impact SKG has had on the industry is functioning as a massive advertisement for the crew and selling thousands of copies of the game to immediately dissapointed third worlders. This has a paradoxical effect of making ubisoft more money while simultaneously harming their rapidly diminishing branding by reviving and bringing attention to a product that was better off dead. Bad products should not be made arbitrarily more accessible.

People wouldn't be dragging the government into this if it could have been solved in any other way.

So regulations that are disproportionaly more useful for corporations are fine, but anything that could help the audience you fight with tooth and nails and of course "you" win those fights since it happens to align with the interests of more influential political entities; "let's dismantle the State" libertarians say, of course we start with the weak institutions set up to help the disenfranchised, the corporate welfare mechanisms we leave for some time later in the distant future that will never come.

This could help games like Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero, Blue Archive, Wuthering Waves, Neverness to Everness, and many others of a similar nature avoid being shut down due to the discontinuation of service
Think about this: if things stay the same as they were years ago, all those games I mentioned will stop working once the servers shut down, and everything you invested in them will be useless. You won’t get a refund, it will just be lost, and you won’t be able to access it

Even though I don't like gacha games, regardless of how popular they are, they need to be protected from shutdowns and denial of access if you've paid for them, the same goes for any game
Other examples that aren’t gacha games include titles that lose their online access on older consoles, such as what happened with GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360. This would help us avoid something like that in the future with GTA 6, the same goes for COD, and many other games with online components
It would also prevent having to delist games due to licensing issues, as is the case with the Forza games

Why? You're not making an argument, just blankly stating things like it just is. An e-celeb got angry that he couldn't play the Crew to make a clickbait video about how quirky it is because it has always online DRM which was shutdown once their licenses to use official model cars expired. This led to millions of third world slavs signing a petition and so ubisoft released an offline version of the crew on steam, to the response of a 40% average user rating and confused reviews in broken English. The radio stations in the GTA 3D trilogy are a good example of this, even though they just removed them instead of replacing the tracks.
The problem can arise when a game is built around that music, for example, the game mechanics, and obviously that would require extra work, but this isn’t about the extra work, it’s about not letting it shut down the game for that reason
