Portal 1 was funnier than Portal 2. Portal 2 reeks of trying too hard. JK Simmons made Cave Johnson funnier than he was written because his vocal performance is so good though. Portal 1 benefitted a lot from restraint. The humor cut deeper because it was both more subdued and presented alongside a genuinely chilling horror scenario.
