>>740281529No but it's still shit
>>740281874Like Fallout New Vegas
>>740281529Yes, the story is terrible and the gameplay ends up unsatisfying. The vast majority of enemies in the game are generic level-scaled humanoids that become ridiculously tanky as your level gets higher. The gun variety is really poor because you're expected to make up for it with customization but the customization options are generally boring and the armor modifiers aren't interesting. The most interesting thing you'll ever craft is the power armor jetpack. The sidequests are hit or miss, a lot of them are generic "clear this unexplored place full of generic enemies out" before turning into "clear this place you've already cleared of generic enemies before" but some of them are more advanced than that and they're kind of neat but they're not common. The atmosphere is great, they didn't put a colored tint over it either. The settlement mechanic is garbage and half-baked. The settlements are nothing more than passive resource printers that you have to revisit once in a while to deal with a generic wave of generic enemies because the alternative is a small off-screen chance for them to succeed and force you to spend 2 minutes repairing things. There's nothing unique to them other than location.Power armor is overpowered for how early you get it and you have no reason to take it off because chances are you'll find a ton of fusion cores just by walking around from place to place unless you sprint everywhere or run into a computer you can't use because there's a chair in front of it.There's barely any difference with what character you want to make because your character will inevitably become powerful at everything and then you just engage in stealth arche-I mean, sneak sniper rifles. The factions are shallow as fuck and you don't really have a hand in influencing them, a lot of them have their own share of generic quests they force you to do.The DLCs add more OP/powercreep stuff. The "anniversary update" sucked.

>>740281529I mean I liked it as a filthy casual so it was probably that bad - for the diehard Fallout fans. Maybe it introduced some new players for the diehard Fallout scene or it just shat everything up. I remember Fallout 3 being atrocious, though. All the other Fallout games have the "nerd edge" (no I'm not joking) if that makes sense. WH40K had it, some guy would come into a game store with a pelican case full of gray figures and you'd have no idea what the fuck it is. Until COVID and now it's almost a household name. Same thing with the older Fallout titles, it was a ponytail exclusive genre. Now there's an entire show on Amazon for it, and my boomer Star Trek dad (not diehard enough to be a Trekkie, though) knows about it and has watched it at almost 70 years old. I don't think he's ever played a Fallout game.
>>740281529East Coast Fallout as a whole is just wasted potential for the lore and world of Fallout at this point
>>740281529No it's fun
It's the only Fallout with passable gameplay, and has some good dungeon dungeon. But the entire package is overall shit and has quite possibly the worst writing I have ever seen in a video game.
>>740281529No. Vanilla FO4 competed with the Witcher 3 for GOTY and it was actually close. The didn't expect said Terminator to develop consciousness, because apparently in the 23rd century everyone's forgotten about AM, Skynet, Shodan, GlaDoS etc. so what happened at Far Harbor caught them off guard. Also they're evil, so who cares - burn the high ranks, stop the kidnap & murder, employ the clankers for the greater good.
If you cut the ENTIRETY of 4 and replaced it with Far Harbor you'd have a better game

Roll their code back to previous versions where that doesn't happen. Better yet, stop making them all together. If they're just spying on people then teleport cameras and microphones everywhere. >>740284660Nah, dude, Elder Maxson tells you exactly his motivations - real villain wants to drown the Commonwealth in blood, starting a civil war. The Institute are evil, in the sense a mad dog is bad. The Brotherhood consciously wants to do bad stuff, nevermind the hoarding of tech & medicine (which admittedly the Institute does too)
>>740284709What about the Brotherhood?
>>740284657Art is a rando you can meet in a random encounter. One Art is a synth the one being held hostage and the other is human. You don't know who Art is, you never see him again, and is one of the main arguments that the Institute is retarded and just replacing anyone they can rather than strategically chosen people.
>>740284753Talking about Father, retard.
>>740284476>power armor design is sexIt really isn't.Because they enlarged the suit so much, the characters hands/feet don't actually fit in the power armor. The proportions of the suit itself would also require your person to be a fucking noodle-human.Fallout Power Armor, fitting an actual human being, would not look like FO4 power armor.
>>740284789The Institute are a monkey with a gun desu, too retarded to utilize their vast resources for good (machine labor, agriculture, tech, medicine, a freakin nuclear reactor) They kidnap people, experiment with FEV, murder, subversion, infiltration - fuck the Institute, needs a change of leadership that can use it better.>>740284841I know. For me, the real villain is Elder Maxson who wants to start a war over free labor that does EXACTLY what it's programmed for (up until Gen 2 at least)
>>740281529It’s just kind of mediocre, that’s the main problem. It technically improves on basically almost everything compared to Fallout 3, so it’s theoretically better to some and could be considered good, but when it came out people were expecting a bit more than “Fallout 3+ Lite”, so it’s pretty bad in that regard. On its own merits it’s a fine game, but it isn’t especially interesting, it just kinda has a lot of shit to do. It’s an awful RPG and an okay shooter, which really means all it’s good for is either people with low standards, people with a lot of spare time or people who want a decent framework to mod to hell and make their own interesting version of the game.
>>740284936Elder Maxson is retarded because Gen 1-2 Synths are basically just fancier Protectrons, they are robots that cannot rebel, you tell them to pick up trash and they'll do it.He's also retarded because Gen 3 synths are just humans (immortal, unaging humans which don't need food, water and are immune to radiation lmao) so that's equally stupid
>>740285083Yeah, agreed. Honestly, I thought the Brotherhood are a good choice in the beginning, but later down the road I had to shoot them down - so much blood spilled in a land that desperately needs more workers? That's just dumb, everyone will lose like that. In my last playthrough I just usurped the Institute, killed half the leadership & coerced the rest to use the organization for good, gave Gen 3 & upwards synths freedom & equal rights, but only after testing. Basically, if they have free will, they can choose & deserve to be free.Which made me sad, because I modded the Brotherhood to be the 4th Reich ;dd really cool mod, with German voice lines and everything ... had to kill em all tho, last thing the Commonwealth needs is another war.
>>740284476Powerful dialogue, Avellone could never
>>740285252>The brotherhood's entire purpose is to store and protect technologies>When they find the institute, a treasure trove of technology, they nuke it lmaoThat alone proves Bethesda has no clue what Fallout factions are for.

>>740285285... Elder Maxson said the synth tech is an abomination that must be destroyed - they cannot infiltrate the Institute, they cannot even physically get there. The only option those muscleheads had was to drop a huge bomb on its roof & call it a day.It all makes sense, considering they cannot physically get inside the Institute (you try digging a few miles under the surface unnoticed)
>>740285414>... Elder Maxson said the synth tech is an abomination that must be destroyedGen 1-2 synths are just robots, Maxson is retarded.>they cannot infiltrate the Institute, they cannot even physically get thereNot only can they just mine a big hole to get in, they can teleport in as well lmao.>The only option those muscleheads had was to drop a huge bomb on its roof & call it a dayThey literally break in, kill everyone inside, and then blow up the place via sabotaging their reactor (more tech). >>740284476F4 is bad and has almost no RP potential whatsoever, but this pic (and a lot of others like it) are more of a UI issue, rather than a writing one. There were plenty of times in previous Fallout games (and many other RPGs) where you had fewer than 4 dialogue options, but those don't get screenshots because they don't look silly. Ultimately, that pic is just reporting on the completion of a quest. In FNV it'd look like>I killed all of the raiders.>Goodbye.and nobody would care despite that also being one option.

>>740285903Semi unrelated note, there are so many fucking idiots regardless of where they are, be it reddit 4chan twatter, who think the voiced protagonist is the cause of the fucking abysmal dialogue options. If there's one good thing to come from Starfield, it is that it single handedly disproves that. The writers at Bethesda cannot fucking write, the designers can't design a fucking quest worth a damn. Were the current hands at the company were to make a game that is near completely text based in terms of quest and narrative delivery, they'd still create something as fucking woeful as Fallout 4 and Starfield.Yet Bethesda listens to the wrong fucking morons time and time again.
>>740286305>the voiced protagonist is the cause of the fucking abysmal dialogue options. It's not, but it's correlated to it. What it does however is destroy any semblance of RP since you have a very specific voice (and a very specific backstory), and that can be excused if the writing is solid, but it's dogshit. Bethesda's FO forces extremely precise backstories upon you, whereas actual FO doesn't.
>>740286273>there was almost no quests about defending a settlement.Turn on the minuteman radio and these fuckers will constantly spam defense radiant quests despite the fact that you armed those motherfuckers to the teeth with end-game gear and rocket turrets. They will even give you rescue radiant quests because NPCs are fucking stupid enough to get captured by shit-tier muties despite living in a fucking Death Star on the ground. All because they most likely recycled Skyrim's Hearthfire radiant quest system.
>>740281529It started the downfall of Bethesda
The absolute worse thing Bethesda did was change survival mode a week or two after launch. Some god damn idiot retard made a mod that was about making the damage "realistic" which made everything a 1 hit kill and bethesda played it and thought it was hecking cool or whatever so they integrated the mod into their survival mode to make survival mode more "realistic".What this did was basically make every build that wasnt "stealth archer" unviable. I had a tanky endurance build that suddenly got 1-2 shot by everything the same as glass cannon builds despite having no stealth and I needed to disable survival mode which also disabled the food/drink and other survial mode related features. Bethesda couldnt be bothered to make "realistic damage" a separate feature they had to make sure that everyone who wanted to play survival mode needed to play a stealth archer or get a mod to tweak damage modifiers themselves back to normal.

>>740284000>Fully modded FO4 turns into a 20/10>Doesn't fix the story>Or the fuck ugly textures/meshes>Or the lore breaking shit>Or...20/10 my ass.
>>740287208I can kind of imagine how pissed off the script writers were, when they were told skills would be removed.>Okay so when talking to the gun store owner we can use our guns skill to get a discount! Or to get a special item! Or to get a special quest!>Oh, right, sorry Jim but there's no gun skill>Well what the fuck am I supposed to write then?>I dunno we still have charisma, maybe just give the player 50 more caps if they pass an RNG check?
>>740286405>It's correlated to it.Only correlation is one extra strain on resource and budget. With that same logic having voiced NPCs at all causes abysmal dialogue options because they are also bound by it.A writer that really wants to do nothing but write will write without care of VO budget, and a tard wrangler will cut it down so the game can get actually finished. See also Chris Avellone and Josh Sawyer.>What it does however is destroy any semblance of RPAlpha Protocol has a voiced protagonist with only 4 options most of the time, often only two, and it is lauded for its RP experience. It's idiotic to conflate the problems that come from a voiced protagonist and the character not being a near-blank slate like Michael Thorton.Even that is debatable when the Witcher trilogy is lauded for its RP experience of telling elves to go fuck themselves despite that Geralt has an entire novel series worth of pre-established backstory.JC Denton's backstory in Deus Ex, fresh agent with a brother, is about as precise as the Soul Survivor's in Fallout 4. A person having a job and a family is about as basic as you can get. And nobody complains about Deus Ex.

>>740287375You're being autistic anon. Of course you can have RP decisions with a pre-established character, but the character had better be interesting in the first place for people to care, and in a game where there is barely any RP decisions to take, at least giving us the Skyrim treatment where we can customize our appearance a lot and imagine a fitting backstory compensates us a bit. FO4 sucks in all those aspects because it's forced incredibly precise backstory, very limited RP choices, bad writing and an entire voice mandating that your character sounds like this.

>>740287514Your entire post can be summarized with"These games that have the same problems Fallout 4 has (voiced protagonist, pre-established character, limited RP choices) are good because the writing is good, and Fallout 4 is bad because the writing is bad."And I agree with you.Voiced protagonist is a non issue. "incredibly precise backstory" is a non issue. Limited RP choices is a non issue if the choices actually have any weight. Basic math reveals a game with only 5 binary choices where all of it matters leads to 32 outcomes. Dialogue in older RPGs people claim to love don't have that many actual options to begin with. New Vegas don't really have that many actual options when it comes to outcomes. It's just flooded with filler about how much they are obsessed with keeping the road safe.
>>740288135This is true. Recently replayed New Vegas and was blown away by how many dialogue options are essentially just "what are your opinions on the NCR" "what are your opinions on the legion" "what do you think the NCR could improve on" "why do you hate the legion" and maybe two more branching options that only re-explain details you've heard from other characters several times by the time you get to Primm
>>740281529It's definitely not what the fans wanted
>>740288354That's worldbuilding though. Actual choices don't come for randomly talking to NPCs with their own personalities and viewpoints on factions and the world, they come from your decisions during quests or on who to help/join.
