I finally got the motivation to play something from my backlog, and this is much better than I expected.The caveat is absolutely do not just open up Dungeon Keeper Gold and play it. Install KeeperFX, it should auto detect your Dungeon Keeper steam folder, you can copy/clone the files to your KeeperFX directory.By default it wanted to install KeeperFX itself to C:/games/ which I actually do use for some non steam games so I let it.I added it as a non-steam game into steam and put it in favorites, it launches fine.Make sure to look at the launcher graphics options first, but for me it kept going fullscreen for the game itself regardless of what I did there sadly, just changed some startup and menu screens.Also take a look in keeperfx.cfg and read through the comments, it's not very long but between editing that and the settings menu in the launcher you can skip the startup cinematic after you've seen it enough times just by deleting that value, thee splash screens, can disable the eyebleed dungeon heart zoom at level start.KeeperFX is a recode and bugfix from an actual source leak rather than a decompile like Flame for Dungeon Keeper 2, so it's pretty cool.There is some weird stuff like rotate camera being controlled by Del+PgDn, and some of the controls you really have to get used to like picking things up with left click but dropping them with right clock, and right click also being a universal "remove special tooltip and go back to default/mining select cursor" but ALSO the "punish/hasten/damage minion" option when hovered.It is also very low pixel and was for even 1996.But if you get the settings right for KeeperFX (I recommend release mouse on game pause - pause is also the P key not anything else) it is surprisingly a lot of fun and I bet DK2 will be way better once I set it up.I'm pretty committed to finishing the original DK campaign at the very least now.

I just had a crazy assault from some adventurers because I built a bridge across lava to deal with one level 1 archer who kept shooting at my monsters while they trained. I think most of our troops killed each other and got replaced, there were a lot of level 3s on both sides. Barely won actually because I forgot I could use spells and stuff other than rally. Lost 8 of my 15 imps too not that I need them as much now that all the starting gold is mined.

Ate slightly above maintenance for a couple of months to get some more mass, now I'm in the middle of a strict cut to see how lean I can get. Weigh 175 lbs now at 185cm, don't count my calories but getting my protein in and losing about 2 lbs per week. My abs are starting to show for the first time in my life. All it took was self-respect.
