the streaming audio program was technically impressive
it had some nice visually touches, and the graphics were well done
too bad the game is mostly a slog

It really was a pretty incredible game. It probably got overshadowed by a lot of the traditional RPGs at the time, but its ambition was unmatched. I remember emulating the original as a kid and having to finish it years later with the GBA release, and I was surprised even then by how much I ended up getting sucked into it by the end.

Because it used a 48 megabit (6 MB) cartridge, whereas almost every other SNES games used between 16 - 32 megabit (2 - 4 MB) ROMs, although there were some that had smaller. The only other game to have an equivalent size to ToP on the SNES was Star Ocean, which unsurprisingly, was made by a bunch of people who left the ToP development team and spun off their own studio instead. Due to the high cost to produce both of those cartridges and how late they came out during the SNES, both of them never got an official release outside of Japan.
