I understand no one here has any particular reason to cut the studio any leeway, but I unironically think, as a developer, that this is just laziness not any sort of intentional decision to make him lamer. They probably just use really complicated rigs for their characters because everyone has to these days and they had a normal-man-shaped rig that they didn’t wanna mess with because they have some procedural animation system that breaks if you screw with the proportions, so they had to make Kratos with the shoulder to height proportions of a normal dude and that’s basically the best you can do. The face is going to be even more constricted by this, that’s been an issue forever, that’s why nobody in fallout or whatever the heck is allowed to have it particularly strong jaw, everyone has to have the same movement points on their face. Like, you can see that they tried to fit the same number of abdominal muscles on him they just didn’t have nearly as large of a canvas to place them. I’m not saying that this excuses anything or that this doesn’t make the product any less lame, I just think that’s why they decided to do this when obviously no fan of the series would be super happy with that depiction.

Playstation fans do not exist ontologically. Let me explain. The Playstation's entire business model is current thing-ism at industrial scale. They produce the safest, most widely appealing corpo moviegames imaginable. This isn't a fanbase you can actually cultivate or keep longterm because there is functionally no *thing* or idea that is attracting people in the first place. It's not only possible but likely that at this point the GoW series has not only filtered out fans from the older games, but also the fans from the 2018 duology, because it is so transient and meaningless as a property. The remake is absolutely going to be over-the-shoulder cinemashit with sex scenes removed because GoW is, literally, this transient nothing-burger. It has to be this, because that's what Playstation is. To deny this is to deny reality.
